Before I had the chance to read your response to Mike's post, I was thinking about President Reagan's quote " there you go again." I think this thread has been one of the longest of this year. Last year the thread about Axel Kane's lack of extending himself also was one of the longest threads. My personal opinion, take or leave it, I know the site is called Broke Straight Boys, however, many of us enjoy the straight boys extending themselves. I think I remember on his twitter page, he wanted to film some scenes with transexual women. I am sure with the heavy demand for him, the management has reached out to him. Now about Etan Steel, pointed out many times by others, taste varies on this site, which is ok in my book. However, Ethan just doesn't do it for me. Remember Antonio Ferrari? Antonio had never bottomed, however, he has ranked ahead of Ethan Steel. One reason may have been he was a great top. which many members may have thought. My opinion, which is my own, Ethan only has youth going for him, little else. Many can see other qualities, but for me, he doesn't have that "IT" as Mike would say. ( You know that intangible thing as Jake (OMG, did I just say that Mike?) has). BTW he never bottoms either.
When you mention a model talked a lot about last year, you also have to put Jake into the conversation. Now I know I have written to much, I am starting to praise Jake. LOL. But it is true.

Being the unofficial Broke Straight Boys historian I have often mentioned the former Broke Straight Boys programmer who called himself Web_Monkey and he explained several times to us on the forum that the ratings are just one factor in determining the popularity of a model. And as I have no life, even on Valentine's Day, I searched out some of his posts to put it in his words.

Here are two of Web-Monkey's posts on the subject, right in the middle of a "Jason/Kodi" thread from back in August 2012. It was seven and a haf years ago, but I would imagine that Broke Straight Boys still uses similar metrics today to decide who is popular and who is invited back. He is actually answering a question of mine on the subject.

On more than one occasion WebMonkey has mentioned models and the number of "hits" that they receive. This is something that we the audience are not privy to, but management I am sure has many more scientific ways to determine if a model is to remain on the site or not. ----Mikeyank

Mikeyank is correct, the stats, the tweets, the votes and the forum comments all feed into our understanding of what you like and why. Stats just tell the sheer volume matter-of-fact, but the comments help us understand why. Most of the time the two things are generally pointing in the same directions, but not always. Its always fun to examine if the hits are high, but the comments not so positive. Sometimes a performer has a weaker performance, but ya love him. Sometimes a performer looses your interest and you crave new performers. So its valuable to know both. Both are important.

But Web_Monkey was Mark's programmer and he worked for Mark and was one of the team who actually made the decisions on models back in 2012, and my guess is that Mark uses a similar formula today. Here is his Broke Straight Boys profile and you can check out his forum posts. As you can see he made over 400 forum posts. He was no mikeyank but he did post a lot and shared some of Broke Straight Boys's hiring strategy with us during his time in power.

Yeah, I figured he was someone who worked for the site, and my video is just a joke and not a knock on what you were saying....just something to make you laugh. You know how I feel about the ratings anyway. I don’t know that I would stick to the same formula from 8 years ago if I were Broke Straight Boys, considering there’s a lot less members today (I’m guessing). I agree more with a combination of things rather than specific hits. And as far as individual ratings for models, a brand new model could come in and if only one member voted and gave that model a 5, that model would be the top model on the site and others with thousands of votes would be ranked below him. To be honest, the system would only ever be fair and accurate if the same amount of people voted for every single model, every single time.

That’s why so many of these short pre and post scenes are in the highest rated BTS over so many wonderful actual long interviews, because there’s only a handful of people voting for them and giving them all 5’s. I mean, Does everybody really think that after scene between Benjamin and Kace is the best BTS in the history of Broke Straight Boys? Half the videos on that first page have 5s and most are these new pre and post scenes.

We are in total agreement on the ratings Jay, both on models and on scenes, with the newer of both getting out of proportion scores to the one's with hundreds or thousands of votes from over the years. That is why I often complement Adam Baer, Johnny Forza and their ilk as their ratings are solid great numbers. A new model can come along and get 50 people or even five and move into the highest stratosphere of ratings, and it doesn't mean the same thing.

That's why I think it's important to realize that Broke Straight Boys uses the ratings as one of several factors to determine a model's popularity and does not use that as the sole gauge of popularity. And of course a fan can manipulate the ratings by up-voting someone they like or down-voting someone they don't like without ever watching a scene. You can't manipulate the hits or clicks on scenes because if people devote the time to watch the scenes of a particular model they typically really like them.
