Cripes, I don't know how a thread on BASEBALL got wound up on romance, Yiddish, and circumcision, but, no, Jon: up until the early 1980's, most kids (60 to 70 per cent) were circumcised in Canada and the U.S.A. - as an hygienic measure. (I'm one of them, so is my b/f, and neither of us is Jewish.)

As an aside - which might amuse Mike - I was in the lunch-line at work one day, and got a shrimp salad. My friend, "L", who is Jewish, said, "Oh, A - that's very treyf!!!" Being very Scottish, and having NO CLUE what this meant, I phoned my friend "H" - who is a famous doctor in Paris, and who is Jewish, and asked ~ "What the hell does 'treyf" mean?" He said, "A - it is Yiddish for 'not kosher'".

SO, of course, I went back to see "L" the next day, and said, "HEY, what the hell were you expecting, from me? I'm as treyf as treyf can BE!!! I grew up on a PIG FARM!!! I've eaten every part of a pig that EXISTS - from snouts to ears to feet to tails. I'm a gentile, so. . . give me a BREAK!!!!"
