Just finished Boomerang by Michael Lewis. Good read. It concerns the 2008 financial meltdown. He goes from Iceland to Ireland, and then on to Greece, Germany and the United States. He examines the mind-set of each country. Very interesting.

Looking forward to Broke Denver's book: The Perfect Blowjob

Maybe Denver can post a little of his new book at a time on here as an incentive to buy it.
BTW is he realy writing the book?

Currently reading, The Great Crash Ahead by Harry S. Dent, Jr. Mr. Dent sees deflation, as in the Great Depression, ahead of us. In his opinion demographics (the aging boomers and their behavior) and the huge credit/housing balloon are the causes.

Was bored on Friday afternoon and started reading the Lord of the rings trilogy. I was quite surprised that I haven't read these books in probably 20 years. This should keep me interested in reading them as I can now visualize whats happening thanks to the movies.

Not a bad visualization, Peter........

I just started the newest Charlaine Harris, "Sookie Stackhouse" novel. I have read the entire series, and I think the books are sooooooo much better than the True Blood HBO series that was conceived from them.

Thanks for the pic MS "K" I never get tired of looking at Orlando:drool:

Back to The Great Crash Ahead. Only have a few pages left, but like this:

Free markets need rules, just like any game. To unleash the power of the many, the greed and power of the few has to be curbed, and people need to interact in a way that maximizes the benefits to the many, not just themselves or the few.

I think that is the job of our elected officials. I would give them an F.

Anyone into sci-fi? Specifically, the Frank Herbert series, DUNE? Let me know if there are any Dune buffs out there. There is much to discuss.

Just started: Who is that man? In Search of the Real Bob Dylan by David Dalton.

Comments on the Dylan bio:

The author, David Dalton, is a founding editor of Rolling Stone. He is also the author of twenty-four books. I am about halfway through the bio and it is not an easy read for me. It is an academic work. I should probably be bringing more into than I am, but it all I have at this point. All of this music was sort of a sound track for me in the late 50s and throughout the 60s - high school, college, teaching grade school. Never really got into it in any big way. Much more into literature and history. Intend to finish the bio. It you were/are into Dylan, I would recommend the book.

Currently reading Reckless Endangerment by Gretchen Morgenson and Joshua Rosner.

So far they are exploring the history of Fanny Mae. It is a history of people that are looking out for themselves, many of them elected officials. Some may have had good intentions. This blind faith in free market theory (the government is the problem) is not working out too well.

Comments on: Reckless Endangerment

Am almost done. It has been very readable. If you want to see understand the forces that lead to the subprime mess, this would be a good place to start.

Just started Keynes - Hayek: The Clash That Defined Modern Economics by Nicholas Wapshott. We probably all have heard about Keynes. Hayek, not so much. He was a free market guy. The discussion between these two economic theories started in the 1930s and continues today. Just started reading. The author describes Keynes as a "promiscuous and unashamed homosexual." I did not know this. I find this interesting. Keynes taught at King's College in Britain. He worked for the British government -involved in the WWI peace treaty.

Tampa wrote a piece here awhile back about the gay British gentlemen who broke the German radio code. He was treated very badly by the British in the 50s. Tampa, how about a bit of research on your part regarding John Maynard Keynes?

Finished Keynes - Hayek: The clash That Defined Modern Economics. It is worth the read. You won't be left with any answers. Since this academic thinking affects government policy throughout the world, it will affect you. You might as well know what the debate is.

New read: Capitol Punishment by Jack Abramoff. I don't think I am going to like what was/is going on in Washington.

Just finished: Street Freak Money and Madness at Lehman Brothers, Jared Dillian. Jared gives an insiders view as a trader of ETF's. Jared also suffered from bipolar disorder and OCD while working there. Interesting read.

All these readers, and no one likes sci-fi? Guess this membership is just too gay, lol. I've always heard woman and gays don't care for sci-fi. Seems to be true.

I love sci-fi, but not the sames sci-fi as you. I am into the vampire, shifter, witchcraft, paranormal side of sci-fi.

Hmmmm. The only sci-fi I've ever read is the Douglas Adams series, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. If you can consider that sci-fi. Loved that series so much!!!
