Indeed it was. To give some context as to why this scene impressed so many of us at the time, Spencer had just come off of a scene with Jason Matthews that had gone really badly. Many of us in here adore Jason. Spencer treated Jason very shabbily in their scene together and took the reluctant broke straight guy template to a new level of homophobic animosity the likes of which had not seen on the site for a few years. Many of us were still angry about the Jason scene and angry with Spencer.
Clay apparently had a long chat with Spencer and told him he couldn't have any more scenes like the Jason one. That if he wanted to get any more scenes (and make more money) that he needed to radically change his stage persona and ditch the homophobic attitude. Otherwise his time here would be over. This is all conjecture of course. (But loosely based on the few postings from the staff after the Jason scene) We were told that we should give Spencer another chance with this upcoming video.
It was kind of understood that Spencer's continued employment was on a probationary status to see if he would work out. All three models ended up doing an excellent job here of course. (Brandon and Zane included) But it was especially notable for the dramatic change in Spencer. This video was received by many of us as a sincere peace offering of sorts by Spencer to the fans. (And a plea to be given the chance to get more work and make more money here) With the release of this vid many of us were left swooning. Whereas just a week before, we were ready to burn him in effigy at the forum gates...lol...many of us did a 180 and were showering him with praise. He went on to do several more good scenes here. By the time he left us I was very sorry to see him go.
I never let Spencer's initial rantings get to me as other's did, as I always realized that these guys applied to a job that involved having gay sex and they knew beforehand what they were getting into. To me it was always "an act", for as I say
Broke Straight Boys is a fantasy site, set in a reality format.
But if there is blame to be assigned for Spencer's "over the top" rantings, I lay the blame on Clay. He was hired to take over the reigns of a successful site and to fill the shoes of a well regarded director, and I think he had some misguided ideas in the early days. He wanted to prove so much that the new models were really straight, that he had the silly signs on the walls, made the models say things like, "I will do anything for money", literally threw money on their cum covered bodies, and had them do stuff as Spencer did in his scene with Zane, showing his "freshly fucked" hole to the camera at the end of the scene.
In retrospect, I believe that Clay encouraged Jimmy's macho straight stance, and was responsible for the Lucas fiasco, where he turned off so many of us with his homophobic comments, before doing an apology BTS to tell us that he thought it was what we wanted to see, and then the Spencer situation as well. I believe that Clay misunderstood exactly what
Broke Straight Boys fans were looking for. Later on, Clay toned down the"shtick" and we moved into the middle ground that some of us called BSB2.5. lol
