You Tube: Dear Porn Stars Memorial

I seldom go to You Tube, but I did last evening looking for something I had read about. When I was done with that, I was perusing gay related material and came across a 12 minute video entitled "Dead Gay Porn Stars Memorial". It was produced by an old porn star and memorializes porn stars who have died over the last 30+ years. There were many I knew by name, others I recognized by face, a few I knew personally. It was a touching tribute and I thought I'd mention it here in the event that some of you might like to view it. If I knew how to do that maneuver where you insert the hyperlink here I would - but being the computer luddite that I am, sorry no can do. But just go to You Tube and type in the title of the video.

There was one former Broke Straight Boys model memorialized, our Dustin Michaels.

At the end the author says "... don't watch porn." I don't think "porn" is the cause of their deaths. As for physical causes such as HIV and heart failure. They would have died of it if they worked in an office. As for suicide they had their mental health problems that maybe drew them to be in porn. Do you guys think it's a cause of death or not? I don't.

I found those closing comments disturbing too Joey. It said that the tribute was put together by a former porn guy himself and his conclusion is "Don't watch porn". I think that he is putting the cart before the horse.

I don't think are watching porn would have made a difference.Porn has been around a very long time.And it is here to stay.
Watching is not going to hurt.(I sure hope ) Or there would have been a lot more on the list.I think watching has helped keep
a lot of people off that sad list.

Thanks for posting that Mikeyank!!! I think I've seen just about everyone them. Someone mentioned the high rate of suicides, I noticed there were a lot of overdoses as well.

I did appreciate the compilation of now deceased porn actors but I do have a problem with the compilation's commentary.

1. One of these gentlemen died in a motorcycle accident, Leo Ford, not of HIV. I do not know if he had HIV or not but it was not the cause of his death.

2, More important is the simple fact that correlation does NOT imply causation. Is it possible that many of these men became infected with HIV through the course of their work in the porn industry? Yes. Is it possible they did so through their own actions outside the industry? Yes. If you look at the dates of death for most of them, it was in the earlier days when people became infected without even knowing there was such a thing as HIV and then hung on for some time afterward before dying. This does not make their death any less tragic but it does not mean that it was their involvement in the porn industry which caused their infection.

Likewise many died of suicide and there are many reasons for suicide. If we were to consider suicide rates by profession are people in the porn industry any more likely to take their own life than those in other industries? The highest rates of suicide according to NIOSH are in dentists, doctors, pharmacists, veterinarians, chiropractors, lawyers, electricians, wood workers, police officers and some other careers. There is no data which shows that actors in porn are more likely to commit suicide than say actors in Disney movies [and you would be surprised at how many of them have killed themselves over the years].

But again correlation does not equal causation. Some people who go into porn do so with unrealistic expectations and find themselves in a position which is not good for their mental well being. But it is not the fault of the porn industry per se that these folks have this problem.

I was very saddened to see the amount of guys who've died. I noticed a few William Higgins film, models and very shocked to see Sergio's cause of death "homicide". Damon Audigier was a model I've enjoyed in recently watched porn, one of which was a "Haze Him" episode. He was listed as a "suicide death". Very sad, either way you look at it when someone passes so young. Thank you for sharing this

I wanted to respond to this thread but could not since I was not a member of this forum. Hence, I have signed up. I loved the tribute. I have been watching porn since the 60's (many were underground ones) and recognized most of the men memorialized in the video. I had found a list of dead porn stars a few years ago and bookmarked it. The list is kept current and thought you all might enjoy going through it. It does cover both gay and straight, male and female actors by cause of death.

Homicide over here can mean any intentionally inflicted means of murdering someone. Usually it does mean they were shot. But by the broad definition of the term "homicide" it can also be a fatal stabbing, purposely poisoning someone, beating them to death, or even I suppose denying them food or water and starving them to death. As I say, it's a rather broad and all-encompassing term.

Homicide, Jon can apply to many different "ways" a person died other than "accidental or natural causes." "CIDE" a killer or killing. There's homicide, suicide, genocide, even patricide, the "killing of one's father"....just as an example.
