What are your favorite BSB porn names?

Thanks for that info. I never had a clue that there was a real Abram Hoffer But I sure loved the model!

Me too. I wonder if that’s why he chose that name. I’m sort of skeptical but I guess it’s possible. Ben Dover is the most obvious tung and cheek porn name on Broke Straight Boys There was a famous British producer by that name who went around filling straight women porn stars and interviewing them.

Paul Canon is interesting as well. Could be Big Willie. Now that’s a good ole country name for Calhoun.

I’m honestly so slow when it comes to pun names, I like Ben because it was the first name on here that I immediately picked up on the pun. The rest, I’m never sure if I’m missing a joke or it’s just a sexy/cool sounding name.

Well, Broke Straight Boys Abram was supposedly a college student in Oklahoma so I would imagine he would have known about the real Abram Hoffer if he was studying the life sciences or really into psychedelics. Either way, it always made me chuckle to see that name because I did make the connection myself. The two-handed JO that Abram did always was curious to me. I liked him a lot.

Interesting thread. I'm curious--does Broke Straight Boys management help the guys choose their porn names or do the guys come to the house for the first time using the name they themselves chose? Scenario--a guy sees the Broke Straight Boys ad, fills out the application. Gets a call from Broke Straight Boys Pictures are sent. Maybe a skype or facetime interview. Details explained, money discussed. Arrangments made to come for a week of filming. Is it during that process that the subject of names comes up? The whole procedure interests me. I know that it seems to work well because the guys chosen are great! Thanks.

I remember Paul Canon said he was in the Broke Straight Boys house trying to come up with a stage name. The name Paul came to him pretty easily. But when he was trying to decide on a last name he saw a camera sitting on a nearby table. And it had the Canon logo name on it. So he went with that. You guys may have noticed that he doesn't spell it like an artillery cannon which would be spelled with the double 'n's. It's just Canon with the one 'n' in the middle. :)

So some of the decisions on stage names apparently are incredibly random. haha

From the ones whose real names I actually know, some of them are pretty close to their real names. When the Sha group came along, I was living in Kansas City and there were a bunch of them from there and they really didn't hide it locally. I guess it spread like wildfire once one of them got on. I mentioned this in another thread, but you could meet quite a few of them hanging out at Missie B's in Kansas City. That's kind of how I figured out virtually all of the 2.0 boys were gay and not straight. Super nice guys too. But, yeah, it's kind of funny the stories of how they came up with them. Paul Canon made me laugh. Just call me Johnny Nikon...

Wow, that’s really cool! Who did you meet?

I wonder, for those that do use a unique stage name to maintain a level of privacy, do they share their real name with the other models. Especially if they’re staying in the model house. In the pre-scene interview with Ben and Ethan, Ben mentions his first scene and is trying to remember the model’s name. He guesses Cunningham (it was Zach Covington) and you can hear Shannon say “I hope that was his stage name.” So it made me think, I wonder if some models don’t share their real name with the other guys, to avoid being outed by accident.

Zach's real name is nowhere close to his stage name. He was part of the Kansas City crew but he moved away. There were a bunch of them from KC...just off the top of my head, the Porter twins, Zach Covington Ryan Fields, Mikah Lake. Isaac Hardy (he was College Dudes) Colby Chambers (not a Broke Straight Boys but worth mentioning). I'm leaving a lot out. As I said, for a time KC was producing some prime talent. A lot them have moved away but it was kind of fun at the time. I don't know the rhyme or reason how they ended up getting a bunch of guys from there but I am not complaining.

It sounds like it was a great time. It had to have been a thrill to get to meet so many porn stars in a more neutral setting where you could actually chat them up and get to know them a little.

I wouldn't really say a "thrill." KC's gay community is pretty tight-knit. You see a lot of the same people around and there's only one real serious gay bar. In this case, these were just people at the bar you already see around and chat with. Then, all of a sudden, a bunch of them are doing porn. None of them really hid it and it wasn't any sort of huge deal or thrill aside from knowing what some of the eye candy looks like naked, lol. Truth be told, the "straight" part of "Broke Straight Boys" gave everyone a laugh because absolutely none of the ones I knew was even close to straight. Kind of mind-blowing at the moment. I am a little bit older than that crew so we mostly had different friends. A few of them were go-go dancers and bartenders already so porn was a natural next step, in my mind. I don't recall any of them being anything but super nice guys, very sweet. The only one I really knew and talked with on the regular was Ryan Fields (RIP) who everyone now knows was really named Billy. He had a lot of issues, poor thing. I had kept in touch with him up until a few months before he died. He was really struggling for a while. I think everyone got a kick out of how his obituary not only mentioned but praised his adult film career, even giving his porn name. That was the kind of guy he was. He never hid it at all and never hid his name or anything. He was really proud of his work.

Regarding KC, the economy up there has never been the greatest so a lot of the folks around there are just trying to get by and, at least in the LGBT community, get the hell out of there. This was around the 2014-2016 time frame that it was like Broke Straight Boys:KC Edition. I moved away after that so who knows what's going on there now. I am certain there are other cities with similar situations at Broke Straight Boys, where a bunch of people are from there. I would imagine it spreads by word of mouth among friends.

Thank you for that great post regarding the gay scene in Kansas City during that time period Prophet. You are right that by the 2014 time period Broke Straight Boys had very few even straight identifying guys, and as time went by, even fewer. That is why I loved having Ethan Steel on the site so much, and why I am thrilled that David is back to filming on BBB. I know that the world has changed since the days of Broke Straight Boys-1 and the early days of Broke Straight Boys-2 when Clay was recruiting the models. But in my opinion, it had become a joke that a site called Broke Straight Boys was filming almost exclusively gay boys. We shall see what the future holds, but I’m more than ready for something different.

One more point Prophet. I also liked your saying that it wasn’t necessarily a “thrill“, meeting some of the models. They are put on a pedestal by some fans and they are actually just guys, and many have troubled pasts which has led them to choosing porn as a way to make money. Some of them are very nice guys and some are not. But just because a guy makes money by having sex on camera does not necessarily make them good guys.
