I wouldn't really say a "thrill." KC's gay community is pretty tight-knit. You see a lot of the same people around and there's only one real serious gay bar. In this case, these were just people at the bar you already see around and chat with. Then, all of a sudden, a bunch of them are doing porn. None of them really hid it and it wasn't any sort of huge deal or thrill aside from knowing what some of the eye candy looks like naked, lol. Truth be told, the "straight" part of "
Broke Straight Boys" gave everyone a laugh because absolutely none of the ones I knew was even close to straight. Kind of mind-blowing at the moment. I am a little bit older than that crew so we mostly had different friends. A few of them were go-go dancers and bartenders already so porn was a natural next step, in my mind. I don't recall any of them being anything but super nice guys, very sweet. The only one I really knew and talked with on the regular was
Ryan Fields (RIP) who everyone now knows was really named Billy. He had a lot of issues, poor thing. I had kept in touch with him up until a few months before he died. He was really struggling for a while. I think everyone got a kick out of how his obituary not only mentioned but praised his adult film career, even giving his porn name. That was the kind of guy he was. He never hid it at all and never hid his name or anything. He was really proud of his work.
Regarding KC, the economy up there has never been the greatest so a lot of the folks around there are just trying to get by and, at least in the LGBT community, get the hell out of there. This was around the 2014-2016 time frame that it was like
Broke Straight Boys:KC Edition. I moved away after that so who knows what's going on there now. I am certain there are other cities with similar situations at
Broke Straight Boys, where a bunch of people are from there. I would imagine it spreads by word of mouth among friends.
