It is 4:30 pm EDT in Florida right now. The day started out cloudy and rainy. I stayed in all day except to walk to dog. I spent time on the internet but found nothing earth shattering. I did watch the dedication ceremony of the Ground Zero Museum this morning. It was very touching and emotional. There is a corned beef brisket cooking which should be done shortly. I threw in some diced potatoes in the pot but feel I need something else to go with it. If this was New Year's I would be making corned beef and cabbage with black eye peas. Oh my gosh, I just realized I have some green beans in the freezer. Think I'll steam them and have a hearty man dinner.

It is a quiet day. The sun is slowly coming out. The radio is currently tuned in to my favorite country station. While dinner is finishing up, I may take another walk with my doggie.

Please, share with us your life today. What are you doing now? What did you do earlier? What are you planning to do later?

This is how we get to be close and personal with each and everyone of us.

Peace,
Louis

I wish I could tell you a lot of decent things for the day but when your stuck in your room for most of the day it's not to exiting. But I will tell you something new about my self which I don't normally tell a lot of people as I get funny looks and avoided by them but seems I've already told you my big secret I may as we'll tell you. I'm a spiritualist which means I believe in life after death, spirits etc and have been told by a few mediums that I'm a spiritual empath so I do spend a couple of times each day in silence meditating seeing if I can feel anything and just genuinely relax. Sorry about the boring stuff and I know a lot of people don't believe in any of what I do so I won't mention it again but I agree with you that the more we know about each other the closer we get. Anyways you all know I'm a massive dirty minded git so I am normal after all. X

Thanks for sharing more about yourself with us Dan. You have nothing to apologize to us about for sharing your personal beliefs. I found it far from boring and actually quite interesting. It's always fun to learn stuff about people. And thanks Louis for starting this thread.

I took the morning off, and visited my 83 year old former neighbor who now resides in a nursing home in the neighborhood. I bring her a large bag of candy and crackers every week, and she is so thrilled and insists that I eat some too. Then I did my supermarket shopping, came home to check the forum, spoke to my friend on the phone for a while and then went into the office for three hours.

Now is eat dinner, Yankee baseball time, and forum time too.

Oh hell Dan, as I tell most people, "there are many ways to get there," this is actually one of the many "messages" I learned from "Sesame Street." I do love that show; Animal is my favorite muppet!:par50: And as far as sharing things, please do! I love to learn about others here...you know it's not all dicks all the time!:scared:

Quick Dr appt, then grocery shopping at Central Market, which is a small chain here is Seattle that's a cross between a regular grocery store, a health food store and Whole Foods. Has a wide variety of fresh fish so I bought some wild caught King salmon and some Pacific cod. I try to have fish twice a week. (Hey Peter, do you shop there or Ballard Market? They're owned by the same family. I think you said you lived on Crown Hill, about equal distance from either one).

Speaking of Whole Foods, I shop there occasionally and judiciously since the prices are so high. Last week I took my ex to have a minor procedure at a hospital in Bellevue, the city across Lake Washington from Seattle. I had two hours to kill and thought I'd stop by and pick up a few things. Bellevue is a wealthy city (LOTS of Microsoft money) and they have a huge WF. Four times the size of the one in Seattle. It was like being charmed by a snake. With time to kill, I wandered the aisles and 45 mins later checked out, having spent $130! It only filled 2 1/2 bags. When I think of how much I could have gotten at Costco for that...!

Hey Mike... has Whole Foods or Costco reached NYC???

And, speaking of Bellevue, on Mother's Day I went on a dinner cruise with my sister and her family. We went from Lake Union in the heart of Seattle through the Cut into Lake Washington. The boat meanders around the shore and went past the Gates Mansion, except for the most part you can't see it. It's a huge complex, but they built it low and terraced, leaving the tall fir trees to shield it from prying eyes off the lake. The Captain gave some fun facts about it. They built it 12 or so years ago for 35 million. I've been past it before and there's often a guy on their dock with binoculars (which is a little creepy, but understandable).
The Captain pointed out a few more Microsoft homes, the most interesting of which is one that has 2000 windows! It's of course huge and the entire front and sides are panels of glass.
Another Microsoft home has the complete skeleton of a T-Rex in the entryway. The guys a freak for dinosaurs. I wonder when he sells it if the dino comes with the house???
Just a few fun facts to know and tell!

Hi Stripe. We have only a couple of Cosco's in NYC. There is a new one that recently opened in Harlem, which I see driving on the FDR Drive, but several in the suburbs of New Jersey and Long island. We do have three Whole Foods in New York City. We are often the last to get chains here, as I remember being away upstate during college in the early 70's how my friends from Long Island all told me about Burger King, and how I had to visit them during vacations to first experience the Whopper!

Stripe, what's a Microsoft home? Never heard that before.

Microsoft produced, and continues to produce multimillionaires and some billionaires. Microsoft home is just shorthand for the people who work/worked at Microsoft, made millions and built new homes in the area.

When Microsoft first started, it couldn't afford to pay it's employees much so it gave them stock. Lots of it. When the company became wildly profitable those employees were able to exercise their option to sell. Secratary's were walking away with hundreds of thousands of dollars and some with over a million. The higher ranking people made even more. Many quit and started foundations and charities and most stayed in the Seattle/Bellevue/Redmond area (Microsoft has a massive campus in Redmond). Microsoft has created thousands of millionaires. People who worked there have started new Tech enterprises and some just retired at age 35.

Between Microsoft, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Amazon, Starbucks, Boeing, Adobe, Vulcan Enterprises (the umbrella group started by Paul Allen, owner of the Seahawks and the lesser well known Microsoft billionaire that helped start the company but he became ill early on and had to quit. He's only worth about 20 billion compared to Gates 65 billion!), and others, and the massive tech infrastructure built in Seattle and the greater Puget Sound area, Seattle is boiling over with new construction and lots of money. It's changing the face of the City. At one point recently there were 20 massive cranes in the skyline over Seattle building new skyscrapers. I found out that two smaller buildings of about 25 floors held nothing but servers! A guy has developed a company with plans to route the huge amount of heat generated by all those servers into heating some of the new buildings going up.

Nine thousand new apts and condos were built in Seattle last year to keep up with the housing demand with all the new jobs coming in (and they need more). If you want to live in the best close in neighborhoods, a 350 sq ft studio apt is $1400. A two bdrm 2 bth house will run you $4000 to $6000 a month.

It's all getting alot crazy, but the economy is really humming along. Our unemployment rate just fell .2% in one month to 6%.

So, that's the story of the Microsoft homes. Microsoft started the tech boom here. All the rest followed. Thank God Gates grew up in Seattle!

I have a meeting with two peoducers. One wants me to direct a musical and one want me to direct a series of plays. As usual in this business they want me at the same time

Stripe I used to occasionally shop at Ballard and greenwood markets, but even though I work at PCC I've always been a Safeway shopper. Have you been in the new Freddy's on 85th? Real nice store!! I live in North Greenwood..

Wow, Stripe. Guess I was born in the wrong place and at the wrong time. If I had been born in Seattle, I could have retired a lot sooner than I did. Sh*t, and to think my main income now is my SS check.

Trying to get ready for work. If I ever can get myself away from this damn forum.LOL

Johnny, I think you need to get your priorities in order. Have you considered changing your work schedule to accommodate your forum infatuation?

I agree totally. When I told Steve, about 4 years ago, "I do not want to teach anymore and you are going to take care of me," he said okay. I think you need to find a sugardaddy...or two!

I Love this thread I love to learn new things about all of you and to learn new things about your lives. :-)

Hey Peter... Wow... PCC is a nice chain. I remember when it first started and I shopped at the little store in W. Seattle. I rarely shop there now because the closest one to me is the Edmonds store (very nice) but the prices are often worse than Whole Foods. Do you get a discount?

I use Safeway quite a bit. I just started using their Safeway2u feature on their website where you can load your card with personalized specials. The first time I used it I spent $90 and only paid $65!!! It's worth signing up for. They offer you different things every week. I print out the shopping list which helps me to remember. My memory isn't what it used to be!

I occasionally shop at the Fred's at 185th because it's close, but it's kind of a pit. They need to redo it. They do have good prices, though.

Trust me, Dan. There are things about me you don't want to know and things I am not willing to post on these forums. We all do have our secrets. However, I have posted more on these forums than I ever have on any other forums.

Yep, these forums are evil. They bring out the honesty in us. But it's all good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
