I am sure the guitarist has given the camp some negative PR. I think it would be the opportune time for you to "humanize" this man camp with your special talents and charm! I wonder in a man camp if they ever need lube, especially in a oil-drilling site. I would like to offer a suggestion for a perfect name for their lube, "Crude-oil". It might be thick and black in appearance, but it is good for at least 5,000 miles.

I used to hear 'one in ten' also, and I can recall in high school gym class, when we had a free play period, and I would sit in the bleachers and watch some of the guys playing basketball, often skins against shirts, and I would count the boys in the class and try to estimate the ratio and figure out who besides me was in the 10% who were.

Think of it this way, Balboa. Do you think that they had an inkling about your sexuality, unless you divulged it to them?

The point is that there are many "straight acting" gay people that no one has an inkling about, until they get to know the person better or find out details of their private lives. Other than flamboyant openly gay men, it is hard to tell, as we can blend in very well with the other 90% of the population.

Remember folks that averages based upon statistics do not necessarily conform to reality and self selection in a given social setting. Most of the percentages given if one goes back and looks at the actual studies they are based on are not 10% gay in the sense of self identified homosexuals as we would consider a gay man these days. Sexual behavior seems to be much more of a continuum where at any given point of time a man may or may not be interested in sexual behavior of some sort with another man.

One of the more successful male prostitutes I have ever met here in SF is very much a straight identified man who frequently takes the passive role in same sex sexual encounters. I once asked him why he would do this and his comments were interesting. He found that gay men often had fantasies about having sex with straight men some where they were the passive partner and others where they were the active partner. He was very adept at figuring out which type of fantasy the client was in to. He found that it was far easier and faster to be the passive partner as well as financially more lucrative. The gay men penetrating him were typically far more sexually excited and willing to pay more while they were so excited they came faster as well. But for him it was easier since he took much less for him to perform than if he was the active partner since he was not really into screwing a man. So the bigger paycheck made up for the pain in the ass. So to speak.

It had its good points: friendship, money and beautiful scenery.
