The Virtual Coffee Shop, Diner And Corner Pub

What is tragic is in this case will lead to literally deadly results not only of the perpetrators but those who follow them and even the rest of us.

I was thinking about that too while watching the film. People with misguided thoughts are not easily convinced just how wrong their thinking is.

I may have said this on another thread...but not only can you not fix stupid...you can't fix ignorant either.

It is a very slow process indeed, if not downright futile, to really change someone's mind on viewing something like homosexuality being a "preference" or a "lifestyle choice". An incorrect choice that needs to be fixed and corrected so the person will suddenly change their mind and pick apples over oranges.

And watching these people who wanted to be "good" trying to change themselves. Some married other "converted" homosexuals and had children with them, but they were never really happy and the folks we met in the film all eventually divorced their spouses. I kept thinking during the film it is like someone telling me that it is wrong for me to be right handed and forcing me to do everything left handed. How difficult and stifling it would be to try to live my life doing something foreign and totally unnatural to me.

Right. For those us born firmly on the spectrum of almost totally straight or almost totally gay...we had no more "choice" over that matter than we did over what hair color we would be born with.

I've always enjoyed the actor Brent Spiner who played the android Data on Star Trek Next Generation. But I had not recalled ever seeing any of his work prior to that role. So I was pleasantly shocked to accidentally find out he played a recurring hilarious comedic role on Night Court. Throughout most of the post 1987 years of the show back in those days I was always working the night shift. So it's not a show I was able to really follow.

In spite of the fact that they dress and make-up him to look like a borderline homeless guy, I can't get over how young and cute he is here. haha

Sad news today:

Yeah. I'm not a fan of moody or dark music either.

Can we talk about sports here at the corner diner, Tampa? The American League East has been a very poor division, but surprisingly both my Yankees and your Rays are fighting it out for first place, here at the one third point of the schedule. Currently the Yankees are one half game ahead of Tampa Bay. And Alex Rodriguez is shocking fans everywhere with a solid season after a one year drug suspension at age 40 with two bad hips. Most folks thought he was washed up and would limp to the finish of his contract, (which may still happen, but so far he is having a very solid season!).

It's amazing to me that it happened in 1969 and one summer later I was going to my first gay bars right here in the same city that had the Stone Wall riots one year before, and I was only vaguely aware at age 20 that openly going to The Sanctuary bar on West 43rd Street was something I could have been arrested for one year prior to that.

Do you remember the days (the 60's, 70's, 80's and even 90's) when it was extremely common for people to say that they didn't personally know any gay people? lol It sounds so silly now. If people thought they didn't know any gay people in their own daily lives, it was only because a homophobic society had kept those gay acquaintances, friends and family members in the closet. Because it was physically dangerous and not good for either finding a job or keeping a job, to be out in those eras.

Of course we can talk about sports. lol

I'm very surprised also at how poorly the AL East is doing compared to the other divisions. I'm very proud that the Rays are doing as well as they are this season. Especially given that they have a brand new manager in his first year of major league coaching. Plus, we lost a few really good players and gained a few new ones who we knew little or nothing about. Of course I'm also happy that we are neck and neck with the Yankees. But my goodness. Who would have predicted, even with a few tough seasons prior, that Boston would be in freefall right now and sitting in the AL-E basement?

As a long suffering Pads fan it is good to see them where they are! I am a huge Rafa fan. He is back 4 the Canada-USA tour ending with the US Open in NY at the end of the month.

Of course we can talk sports in here! haha This is a thread where we can gab about anything. It's like people just coming into a coffee shop and catching up on current events or talking about the past. Or even asking for the advice of friends with things on their mind.

Well I did above & wrt NC there were other Night Court stars that died. The 1 still going strong is Sleaze Ball Fielding in Librarian & I believe he was in Boston Legal.

I'm not sure who Sleaze Ball Fielding is. But then I admit I wasn't an avid viewer of the show.

Matt McGorry Felt 'Shame' After Sexually Experimenting With Guys

A 2018 clip of actor Matt McGorry discussing how he has overcome the “shame” of experimenting sexually with guys is making the rounds on TikTok. The video comes from an episode of the roundtable talk series Man Enough that also included Derek Hough and Javier Muñoz reflecting on modern masculinity.

In the episode, McGorry shared that although he identifies as straight, his past included exploring with other boys. “When I was young, like a lot of straight boys, I experimented with other boys. But that is so common and no one talks about it,” he said. When asked to clarify what he meant by that, by host Justin Baldoni, McGorry explained further. “Like, physically experimenting. I don’t think it was sexual, and I am straight never found myself attracted to boys, but it’s just this thing where I — and I don’t need to go into the full details — but, you know, where you just try things.”

While McGorry said his experiences aren’t uncommon, they still left him with shame for years, before he decided that he wanted to be open about them and hopefully encourage more honest conversations about sexual experiences among men. “I had so much shame about that, for years after, thinking ‘I’m going to be famous one day, maybe, and someone’s going to find and it’s going to become this thing and it’s going to destroy me,’” he recalled. “And maybe even at that point in time, it was a little less acceptable. But I spoke on a panel a little while ago and I was like ‘I’m going to say it here.’”

McGorry added that keeping it secret only added to the feelings of shame. “That’s the way shame works. If you keep it in the dark, wet and moldy, it festers,” he explained. “And when you let it out there, not only are you giving other people the strength to live their truest lives, but you actually get people to see you authentically.”

Here's the episode in question. It runs a bit long at 29 minutes. But I think you guys might enjoy (or perhaps be intrigued by) a deeper discusion on what masculinity means in the context of the early 21st century for straight, gay and bi-ish guys alike.

Frankly I don't no this person and even if I did I would not care. I expect we all have demons which we should only be shared with people who care about us.

And you have every right to your opinion BR. :)

I found this video really fascinating. I didn't think I would take on a half hour vid so late at night. And well... haha I've never heard a conversation like that before among guys who were just so well spoken, eloquent and willing to let down their guard in front of each other. I realize that ususally plenty of editing is done to these videos to make them flow so seemingly seamlessly. But darn. I was impressed with how much intelligence and insight were brought together in such a diverse group of people with such different backgrounds, age groups and career paths.

I was very pleasantly surprised to find for expample that Derek Hough the fomer "pretty boy" boytoy (10 years ago at least) of DWTS fame, actually has a brain in addition to so much dancing talent. And the other guy from Egypt, Bassem Yousseff whose role model as a political satirist in Egypt was Jon Stewart. Taking on the dictator Mubbarak, the Arab Spring revolt and then the military junta running Egypt now, has him taking refuge in any country he can get to and still make a living. And here he is speaking intelligently (in very good English) from a combined Arab, Muslim and Western perspective about ideas of manhood, masculinity and the societal expecatations of male conformity.

Not a topic or familiar conversation you hear every day.
