Same Sex Marriage

North carolina can suck my chode!

Thank you President Obama for taking the bold stand and endorsing a civil right. You are the man.

Truly a wonderfull day- If anyone had asked me in 1972 if I would live to see an African American President support Gay marriage- I would have thought that person was insane.

It may have been a bold move but the fool probably cost himself more votes than he gained by doing it. Our economy can't take 4 more years of this closeted Muslim.

I want to applogize for doing politics here. It has no place. My opinion on personal matters really should not be here. Im sorry if I offended anyone.

Are you kidding Webmonkey?

Seriously, do NOT sweat it! Some of our most lively threads in here have been about politics. Yes, they get heated at times. But for non sexual stimulating conversation you will always find those in here willing to talk politics.

You should read through some of our threads when we talked about Bush when he was still in office. And even after he left office! LOL We have had plenty of political discussions in here with no permanent harm done. If politics weren't allowed in here we wouldn't have a non site related section of the forum to post to.

ok i will go back and read. everyone has views and they are all valid whether i agree or not. i should never have expressed my personal views on the matter of same sex marriage in this venue. Its a personal belief and im not paid to express that, just to make Broke Straight Boys the best place. Much respect to all.

There is no subject we can't thrash out here. In the end we are still friends and still love each other. At least that's the way I see it.

one of the best blowjobs i have ever gotten was from a woman.

while i think it was a great moment in history, i only wish he had announced his position a few days earlier.

This is really a non-issue at the Federal level. Currently the states are deciding the legal issue. I am in favor of the concept, but would prefer another name than "marriage." Perhaps, "union," or some other word. Yes, I believe words do matter.

To me this whole issue is bullshit. People are going to live with who they want to. And, if it doesn't harm society, fine by me.

There are other problems Obama et.al. should be worrying about: The Economy!

I am past middle age and remember the civil rights movement well and the fact that blacks knew (as confirmed by the former Mayor of San Francisco) that timing is everything. The President might have done himself and the GLBT movement well by waiting until his re-election. I have waited over sixty years; I could have waited 6 more months and let him get those swing states in his column. Also, if this is too political for Broke Straight Boys 2.5, my apologies. Everything aside, he was getting my vote anyway. Look at Mr. Romney for a minute. Does he look as uncomfortable to you all as he does to me. It is as if he really doesn't know how to handle himself. Just saying.....thanks for letting me ramble.

this is not a federal issue, it's a civil rights issue.
if in 1960's interracial marriage ban were put to a vote, it would have it would have passed in every state. rights do not come from the people or the state. rights are like objects in a dark room. become they are not recognized or seen does not mean they have not always existed. all that needs be done is to turn on the light of truth.
discovering the new world added no land to the planet and the land had people who did not know they needed to be found.
those of a certain faith say that rights come from god. which of our god given rights would i choose to put to a vote? none! justice, liberty and equality must be more than words. they must be our cause.
sorry i rant again

It appears that the subject of gay "marriage" is quite lively on both sides of the Atlantic. I agree that timing on such a subject is important; and at this present time our David Cameron and Nick Clegg (coalition leaders) are trying to divert the publics attention away from the financial and political mess they have put us into.

Regarding gay marriage, I agree with an earlier poster that it's the word marriage that is causing a lot of concern within, in particular the church and other god loving sects. I remember being satisfied when civil partnerships were legalised and recongised. It took a hell of a long time to get to this stage, but sometimes one can push things that little bit too far which can result in the undoing of all the good done previously.

Andrew Sullivan on Obama's pronouncement on Gay Marriage

Andrew Sullivan is usually a right-leaning political writer. I just read an exerpt of his on this topic.

The full cover story is not yet online, but in a blog post published earlier this week, Sullivan wrote that Obama's support of gay marriage brought him to tears:

"I do not know how orchestrated this was; and I do not know how calculated it is. What I know is that, absorbing the news, I was uncharacteristically at a loss for words for a while, didn't know what to write, and, like many Dish readers, there are tears in my eyes.

So let me simply say: I think of all the gay kids out there who now know they have their president on their side. I think of Maurice Sendak, who just died, whose decades-long relationship was never given the respect it deserved. I think of the centuries and decades in which gay people found it impossible to believe that marriage and inclusion in their own families was possible for them, so crushed were they by the weight of social and religious pressure. I think of all those in the plague years shut out of hospital rooms, thrown out of apartments, written out of wills, treated like human garbage because they loved another human being. I think of Frank Kameny. I think of the gay parents who now feel their president is behind their sacrifices and their love for their children.

The interview changes no laws; it has no tangible effect. But it reaffirms for me the integrity of this man we are immensely lucky to have in the White House. Obama's journey on this has been like that of many other Americans, when faced with the actual reality of gay lives and gay relationships. Yes, there was politics in a lot of it. But not all of it. I was in the room long before the 2008 primaries when Obama spoke to the mother of a gay son about marriage equality. He said he was for equality, but not marriage. Five years later, he sees--as we all see--that you cannot have one without the other. But even then, you knew he saw that woman's son as his equal as a citizen. It was a moment--way off the record at the time--that clinched my support for him.

Today Obama did more than make a logical step. He let go of fear. He is clearly prepared to let the political chips fall as they may. That's why we elected him."

Just thought everyone on the forum would enjoy reading his statement.

State and church should be separated. And a state marriage should have nothing to do with a church marriage.

After the marriage register opened up for all sexes in Holland, nobody noticed any disadvantage. It turned out to be good for for business!

PS: Who wants to marry Scorpio...? The man needs to find him a husband real bad. Anyone? All offers welcome!
