Just for my information, how does Broke Straight Boys's recruit models? Is it proactive - management actively seeks models to recruit or is it reactive - someone contacts Broke Straight Boys on becoming model and management responds. Reason for asking, for awhile I was a member of Straight College Men - a site that is now defunct except for purchase of videos and other items. One of the models on that site was Rhett - noted for his extra large package. I would love to see him in the Broke Straight Boys corral but have no knowledge of his whereabouts now. He once did an episode with his father (no sex -just exhibitionism) and was one of the few models I have seen to have done that. And if someone wants to recommend a possible model , how do they go about doing so. Just wondering.

Sorry we have been incredibly busy here. I try to always answer every question in a timely manner but sometimes it doesn't happen.
We use recruiters all over the country and there is a lot of models who just find our site and apply. As for finding a specific model that is very tough unless we have shot them before. Companies keep model information very confidential.

Blu Media takes on applications that are sent in via the Broke Straight Boys web site. If you explore the home page a bit, you will see a link at the bottom that says, be a model. you basically create and advertisement for yourself filling out all kinds of information such as location, sexlife, traveling availability. Everything gets put into considerations for when they fly us out it usually takes a whole weekend and more even a week to get the right videos ready and they need models who can take off work for big chunks at a time and usually thats not probable.
so the selection of models is simple.
-Potential model fills out application
-Clay reads through probably hundreds a day scanning pictures and location (for flying)
-Clay uses contact info to get a hold of these models, models usually cant make big commitments. so he moves to the next one.
-Sets up a date they can fly out
-50% of the time models skip flights thinking its a scam or not real
-clay has to postpone shoots losing money for the models that were going to shoot with the skipper. meaning he doesnt have enough episodes to run the month, meaning he has to go into overtime scheduling more shoots in a short amount of time, then some of those models skip out and everyone gets bent over and fucked out of huge amounts of money just because some douche gets chicken shit! (personal, i have missed 4!! count them.. 4 shoots on people chickening out, so i should have almost 10 videos out.)
-clay works with the models that actually show up, 50% of THEM back out last minute or cannot perform.
So the process is a huge time consumption for the models, clay, Chad and everyone else behind the camera.
I ranted in this blog for this reason, We really have very little control of who we put on our sites guys. the requirements are astounding.
-large time away from school and work 60% cant do it
-constant contact 20% back out and dont say anything
-traveling 5% cant come thinking its fake or scared
-actually being able to film and perform 10% cant get off or wont fuck a guy
from my observations, this is my conclusive bias data.
95% of applicants cant/dont do it
5% go through with it.

That rant may come off a bit condescendingly, please do not take it that way, i only shared this information so that you guys could be on the same page as me when i put it all together.. Oh man, my mind was blown, figured i would share the knowledge that all porn is actually hard work, not just Broke Straight Boys, everywhere. It kinda made me appreciate watching porn a bit more actually.

This is not the first time or place that I have heard the kind of information that Blake has written. It happens here in the UK too and thus probably at each porn producing company. There are a lot of timewasters out there (I've come across quite a few on Grindr), who seem to get a kick out of chatting and getting meetings organised but pulling out at the last minute or doing a no show when everything has been organised.
If people cannot get a lot of time off work then why do they apply in the first place? Maybe this is why we see a lot of guys who are out of work and are genuinely broke and need the money.

If Clay finds a really hot applicant, I would think that he might try to schedule a shoot for this guy that is within his available schedule, rather than immediately cancel if the model can't fly to the studio on the date specified. I recall David telling us from his version of Broke Straight Boys, that some college students would only be available to shoot during college breaks. And I'm also surprised that you said that 50% of the guys who commit to coming skip their flights, thinking it is a scam. Once a potential model goes to the trouble of sending in pictures and filling out applications, I would think that they understand what they are getting into.
And perhaps with models "skipping" out at the last minute explains why some guys appear so often, as perhaps they are used as "fill ins" for the no shows. I'm sorry that you missed four episodes because your potential partner "flaked out". As you are flown into Florida from Texas, I'm surprised that they would just skip the scene, rather than try to round up another partner for you, as they've already incurred the expense of your airline ticket.
Being that my favorite part of Broke Straight Boys is the reality factor, I totally appreciate it when you or Jason take the time to let us, the audience know the real deal of the behind the scenes machinations of putting the site together.

Blake's info was very very interesting and the stats are exactly what I would have expected. The no show rate did surprise me a bit you would think they would talk with the model the night before and confirm. Most of the time his attitude on the phone or tone on his voice would give you a pretty good idea.

The site could insist in the models paying there own way and then getting their expenses refunded after the shoot. I'm afraid nothing can be done if a model underperforms and can't do a cum shot, apart from pay him less.

As far as the workings of the site and the shooting of scenes, this has to be one of the most enlightening posts I've read in years. I had no idea that so many models models backed out and left Clay totally high and dry. I knew that it did happen of course. But I had no idea the percentages were so high. Thanks to you we now have a totally new appreciation of just how hard Clay's job is. The lost and wasted time on Clay's part, the lost unrefunded airfare for models who don't catch scheduled flights, the lost wages by the models who do show up and are left with no scene partner to perform with, plus of course the very straight models who hoped they could do this for the money and then realize they can't perform or get an erection with another guy...
It's all mindboggling the waste of time, effort and money to shoot a straight fetish site like this. Not saying of course that they should give up. haha But thank you Blake for giving us this insight. And on a personal note, I'm very sorry for all the money you have lost by not being able to shoot scenes that you've taken the time and trouble to fly out for. The irony being of course that you took time off work and lost wages at your real job in order to fly out for scenes that didn't happen.

Patience is definitely a virtue when it comes to this. I would say that 20% of brand new guys back out or don't show up. My usual MO is to have a guy in for a solo, and then talk him into doing more for extra cash. It usually works. We have some amazing guys who have been on recently and will be on soon who were ONLY down for a JO, and after certain powers of persuasion and lots of cash in their face, were willing to do more. After that first time with another guy it makes it a lot easier to talk guys into other stuff for money.
