Pete did not become the President in 2021 but as this NPR article tells us:

Former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg made history Tuesday, becoming the first openly gay man to win Senate confirmation to run a Cabinet department.

Buttigieg was easily confirmed as secretary of transportation by a vote of 86-13.

After the vote, Buttigieg tweeted that he was "honored and humbled by today's vote in the Senate-and ready to get to work."

Secretary of Transportation is a high visibility cabinet post, particularly when a major improvement in infrastructure occurs. If Pete performs well, it would be a potential launching pad for a future Presidential run.

Here is who voted against Mayor Pete. Some of the most anti gay and homophobic senators some of whom are suspected closet cases.

Those who voted against confirmation were all Republicans: Sens. Richard Shelby and Tommy Tuberville of Alabama; Tom Cotton of Arkansas; Marco Rubio and Rick Scott of Florida; Roger Marshall of Kansas; Bill Cassidy of Louisiana; Josh Hawley of Missouri; James Lankford of Oklahoma; Tim Scott of South Carolina; Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty of Tennessee; and Ted Cruz of Texas.

(CNN)Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and his husband Chasten announced the birth of their son and daughter on Saturday.

"Chasten and I are beyond thankful for all the kind wishes since first sharing the news that we're becoming parents," the Biden Cabinet secretary posted on social media. "We are delighted to welcome Penelope Rose and Joseph August Buttigieg to our family."

Buttigieg shared last month that he and Chasten, an author and former teacher, had become first-time parents.

"The process isn't done yet and we're thankful for the love, support, and respect for our privacy that has been offered to us," he shared at the time, adding that they had wanted to grow their family for some time.

The couple, who have been married since 2018, had been trying to adopt for a year, The Washington Post reported in July.

Joseph is also the name of Pete Buttigieg's late father, who was a Notre Dame professor and died shortly after Buttigieg announced his exploratory campaign for president in 2019.

The Buttigiegs are also parents to two dogs -- Truman and Buddy.

CNN's Donald Judd, Devan Cole and Dan Merica contributed to this report.
