How the Tube Sites are Killing Good Erotic Video. . .

OK,

Maybe that's a bit of an overstatement. And maybe this post will be of more interest to Mark, than any of us in "vacuumland". However, there is certainly something going on out there, in the erotic video industry, which we need to be aware of. . . .

It's not unlike what is happening to newspapers, and television, with the increasing encroachment of the Internet. Most people no longer buy newspapers - in print, or even online. They rely on pre-digested snippets pirated from real newspapers, that they find on the Internet. This results in real reporters and columnists getting fired, because the newspapers they work for can't afford their services, anymore.

An increasing number of people no longer watch television, or subscribe to cable television services. If they want live, videographic news or sports or commentary, they pick it up on the Internet. This means that the big broadcasters are cutting back on their news and sports departments, as well.

Unsurprisingly, the same thing is happening in gay erotic video. People who know tell us that the DVD business, in gay video, died a long time ago. And now, conventional gay Internet sites are finding things tough, as well. Because people seek to pick up the snippets they can, from "tube" sites, and from amateur sites, where amateur performers jerk off for nickels.

Obviously, this has got to settle out, at some point. "Tube" sites, which are completely parasitic upon established sites like Broke Straight Boys, would have NO CONTENT to offer, unless someone were out there, MAKING IT FOR THEM.

And I don't begrudge ANYONE having a look at previews out there, on Tube sites. It's fun, and it lets you know what's available. But. . . as more and more people rely EXCLUSIVELY on Tube sites (and pirated videos) to get off, it means that less and less truly high-quality gay erotica will be made. . . AND that the models who are making their living sharing, in gay erotica, are less and less able to MAKE a LIVING in a safe and consensual environment, and are more and more forced into things like escorting - which can be very dangerous.

I am pretty sure I am preaching to the choir here, because we are all longtime subscribers, but - I think it is an issue worthy of note.

If the original sites werent offering the downloads there would be a harder time for people to get the videos on the tube sites...music industry is completely different..once u join the artists sites the most u pay for is all the insider knowlage...they dont offer album downloads

downloading videos from the original site is not the problem. the problem is people take it upon themselves to share the videos with others. they upload the video as if they own the rights to the video. their right to possess the video does not extend beyond the right to keep and to view the video. the right to control distribution remains with the owner.
tube sites claim to have no role in what anyone post. the assumption is that if you have it, it is yours to use as you see fit.
if my neighbor has my lawn mower, he can not give, loan, or sell mower. possession does not denote ownership.
I have a firm opinion on this subject.

Oh dear. I guess it's confession time again. If it were not for the tube sites, I would not be here. For an unknowingly amount of years I rented videos from my local bookstore. If it was something I wanted to keep, I bought it. It was the attendant at one of these bookstores that gave me the idea to purchase an additional VCR player/recorder. When I realized he had moved on and was working at Men.com, I dropped my subscription to EL and joined the other. Which brings me to Broke Straight Boys I had purchased early scenes and even copied many of them from the earlier days. Then one day on a tube site I saw the original interview with Kodi. I fell in love immediately. I continued and waited for Kodi scenes to be posted and when I found them, downloaded them. However, there was one in particular I was very interested in. It was the one with Kodi and Jason in the pool. All I kept seeing were short clips of it. I became so obsessed with having the entire scene, I dropped Men.com and joined Broke Straight Boys Now you know the rest of the story of how I came to be a member of this site.

The tube sites took me down different avenues of erotic entertainment and gave me a better awareness of what is out there in the industry.
