Even a man who thought that women want to have sex with their fathers and that women spend much of their lives distraught because they lack a penis is right sometimes. This person, the legend that is Sigmund Freud, theorized that people often have the most hateful and negative attitudes towards things they secretly crave, but feel that they shouldn't have.If Freud is right, then perhaps men who are the most opposed to male homosexuality have particularly strong homosexual urges for other men.One study asked heterosexal men how comfortable and anxious they are around gay men. Based on these scores, they then divided these men into two groups: men that are homophobic, and men who are not. These men were then shown three, four minute videos. One video depicted straight sex, one depicted lesbian sex and one depicted gay male sex. While this was happening, a device was attached to the male participant's penises. This device has been found to be triggered by sexual arousal, but not other types of arousal (such as nervousness, or fear - arousal often has a very different meaning in psychology than in popular usage).When viewing lesbian sex and straight sex, both the homophobic and the non-homophobic men showed increased penis circumference. For gay male sex, however, only the homophobic men showed heightened penis arousal.Heterosexual men with the most anti-gay attitudes, when asked, reported not being sexually aroused by gay male sex videos. But, their penises reported otherwise.Homophobic men were the most sexually aroused by gay male sex acts.

In college,I met a young man who spent his teens years getting together with his other straight homophobic friends on Friday nights where they would go downtown to the gay areas and beat up gay men walking alone, to or from the gay bars. When he met me in college, he absolutely hated me. He spent that first year (we lived in dorms) avoiding me, being rude whenever he could, and bad mouthing me when I was not around.
Still, somehow we became friends. I think he eventually found that I was not a threat to him. We became friends actually, after he found me at mass on Sundays (we were both Catholics). We began to go to lunch after mass, and we would sit and talk for hours. One day he asked me what I prayed for so much, I told him that I prayed he would get over his hatred of me. He laughed his ass off, turns out he was praying the same thing, that he could get over his hatred of me.
That year, during Christmas break, he called me one night and told me his Mom had died suddenly. I told him I would be on the next bus out and to expect me. When I arrived, he was there waiting for me. When I got off the bus he came to me and hugged me and just broke down. It seems that of all his friends, I was the only one who answered his call and came to be with and support him. He took me to his home and introduced me to his Father and brothers and insisted that I stay there with them. I felt awkward, but I accepted.

Apparently, he had told his Father all about our rocky relationship, and it was his Father, who told him that perhaps he actually had deep feelings for me and that perhaps he should accept it, and give our relationship a chance. After the funeral, we spent the rest of the day hanging out, again, I was the only friend who was there for him. That night, we sat up drinking and talking and we ended up making love. He later confessed that , although he had been with several girls, he had never truly experienced love making till that night with me. I left and went back to school, and there at the bus station, he hugged me again and then kissed me, right on the mouth, in front of everyone. I was floored! That Spring semester, we became secret lovers, and were together for four years. That was many many years ago, but to this day, we remain friends, and call one another from time to time. He is married now, with kids, but he admits, I was his first true love.

Moral of the story? Freud was perhaps quite correct. Since meeting this young man, I have met two others homophobic guys, who in time, I had sex with. I never chased after these homophobic guys, I just waited them out. It took years to happen, and I had to endure a lot of their hatred, but in the end, they sought me out. I never showed any interest in them, nor was I out to get them. I just was myself around them. I think for some of these homophobic men, you just have to show them a lot of patience. It isn't easy, and it isn't fun, but it is worth it in the end. I don't refer to the sex, I refer to breaking down their hatred. I still see these other two guys ( we all work together) and I see them as happier in their lives, perhaps because they have learned to quit hating so much. I can only hope that their exposure and experience with me has done that. It is rewarding to see all these guys who were haters, eventually become friends, and all I had to do, was be myself. I say kudos to Dr. Freud, he got this one right!

In my experience with homophobic men in the military, I have found that these men are in a power trip over anyone especially gay people. I became friends with several such men and I have become very close with one in particular. But I sensed their deep need to control me inorder to feel safe and reassured that I was not a threat to their illusion of power. I had to play a game of servant (slave) to master and for a while I enjoyed it because they would tantalize me with the possibility that I may have the privilege of touching their dicks. We were men and in uniform, carrying weapons and guarding the USA from all the enemies out there. We had a mission but in secret we had our own game of us against them. I was the secret gay lover who had a platonic attraction to some hedonistic homophobe who in turn allowed me to enter his secret world as long as I don't touch him without his approval. He could go out and do anything - fuck women and mess around with the guys. Not me. I had to wait for him in his barracks room after his partying, so I could take off his shoes and fold his clothes. I had to sit next to him and talk with him about what he did that night. He talked and talked until I had to put him to bed. This continued until the day I had orders to another station. He wouldn't talk to me until one night before I left I begged him to let me kiss him just this last time. He grudging permitted me to kiss him on the cheek. He wouldn't look at me. And then I noticed that he was crying. As I left his room, he turned and followed me out and hugged me. We never saw each other again.

Haha, this was a great post! It confirms my suspicion that I have always had. It seems that the people that try to prove that they are not gay by being extremely homophobic end up being secretly gay themselves.
