Hey Jimmy,

I'm really happy you stopped in!

Congratulations on getting a new place. :thumbup1: I assume it's a step up. Good for you!

I wish I could be more helpful with good ideas for your new place. I however did not get the gay interior decorating gene. haha I'm rather clueless when it comes to things like that also. lol

But seriously....thanks for coming in and posting.

Congrats, Jimmy! I hope you enjoy your new place!

If you'd like advice from a woman... I've been to many man caves in my day and the one thing that always really stood out to me was the lack of amenities, like toilet paper, and the typical mess of beer bottles, pizza boxes and mail. If you want to make sure you keep your female visitors happy, try to keep things tidy by throwing the trash away, make sure you never run out of TP and change the sheets regularly. You might also consider having an extra toothbrush or two for overnight guests.

all kinds of man cave idea.
here's one.
Stadium-themed Man Cave
2 side-by-side flat-screen TVs
various sports memorabilia
A signed jersey
Dartboard

from there, there are a number of chairs, a leather couch, a coffee table, and stuff like that.

Well, that about covers it for me. Although a few ottomans would be nice; make sure you have a decent amount of rugs if this is a wood floor. Maybe a small, dorm-sized fridge as well. Congrats on your new place, Jimmy! You'll have to post some pics after you're all settled in.:thumbup:

Hey Jimmy way to go on the New place I hope you get it the way you want it!

As for me I spend 90% of my non sleeping life in my Man cave and i believe you need 5 things to make it a true Man Cave

1. Big screen TV
2. Bar area or keg fridge
3. good seating if you have parties its a must
4. A good game system if your into it
5. get a few things from every team you like and put them up and as you collect more of them rotate it so it always looks new.

I gave a party when I got my new place and people asked if they could bring anything i said if they wanted to bring something get me something to display from FSU or the Chicago Bears or Cubs .. I labeled it with there names and put it up.

Good Luck Jimmy and all the best with your new place!!!

not all of us get the gay interior decorating gene. my interior decorating skill come from knowing men whose wives ask to them to live somewhere else.
their first place becomes a man cave. their next place become whatever the new love interest wants it to be.

well if there was any doubt that jimmy is straight this thread should remove all doubt.
every gay guy i know would be posting pictures of his fab, new place. a sports theme.
every straight guy i know, wants to know if a plastic crate will hold a tv or just says help.

straight guy: hey, you're gay, do you know any interior decorator?
gay guy: hey, you're straight, can you get me tickets to the next game?
:w00t:

Your man cave should be anything you want it to be but figure that out. You know plenty of gay guys who, I'm sure, would be happy to give you ideas. No matter what, keep it clean and free of clutter. Only time there should be clothes on the floor is because they got there before getting busy!:001_tongue:
If your man cave is JUST for you, make it that way. If you are going to entertain, you may want to decorate in a way that will make others more comfortable. Hell, once you get nakes, the might as well be empty.:thumbup1:

Jimmy, I restore really old houses and apartments with a roll up your sleeves attitude, and then put furniture in them that I collect off the street or buy at flea markets. I've learned that the size, shape and vibe from the spaces is always the deciding factor in how to put together an interior.

Post some photos of the way your new place is now and we'll give you some fucking terrific advice on how it should be when it's finished.

Otherwise destin's practical cave basics list, and Laura's warning on how to keep a cave from being too neanderthal sound like a good start to me.

Jimmy- Just enjoy the new digs

Jimmy, I'm a retired general contractor. If you need help just contact me. REALLY!! no charge! I have helped a lot of my friends create just what they want.
Best Advice- Just make it comfortable for yourself. Don't overdue, Check out Habitat for Humanity store, used furniture stores, and Goodwill on University Drive. Most of all, JUST BE HAPPY AND ENJOY!!!
Best wishes

Is your GF living with you? If she is, she will have more of a say than we do. Probably more than you do.........

A living room in Laker colors might be a hard sell, but if you wanted to cover the walls in shirtless pictures of Derek Jeter, she may be just fine with that.:thumbup1:

Ms. K. You never told me that you were a Derek Jeter fan. I've always liked him both on the field and off. :001_cool:
