Favorite Artists?

Just curious as to what the members favorite artists are :) (musical)

Hey, Drake. Thanks for asking the question. Not sure if you have seen it or not but we do have a "members favourite music" thread on here. It has always been a very active and fun thread. For some reason no one has posted in about a month so maybe you can get it started back up. Link your favorite videos of songs and artists you like. Copy a link from Youtube and click on the icon above that says "insert video" paste the link and the video is posted. Check it out and have fun.

Here's the link to the thread.

Check it out Drake. I just posted Shaggy's latest hit single.

I guess I should answer your original question. The truth is I am an old man and retired musician (mostly organ and church choir). However, my love for music has always consumed my life. I live in the moment and especially love the music of TODAY. I appreciate and respect the classics of the past, but they are part of my past. I do not want to thrive on old memories. I want to make new ones each day TODAY. This is what keeps me young in spirit and mind.

So bring it on, Drake. Be it Reggae, country, rock, hip hop, rap, and so on. It's all good!!!!!!!!!!!!

David Guetta, and old and new country i like everything as long as it got a good beat!!

Kylie Minogue. love her music. Iggy Azealea. and pretty much I listen to all kinds of music. anything that sounds good I listen. =P

JUDY GARLAND all Show Music...But that is Gay Johnny talking...But I really like all kinds of music.lol
Hard to name one....

Oh my goodness, Johnny. . . I think you have just won the prize for the gayest post on Broke Straight Boys for 2015!!! LOL!!! (Love you, dude ;-)

"A" XOXOXOXOXOXO

P.S. Here's a story for you, Johnny. . . about 20 years ago one of my friends had a retirement at my favourite pub, "The Silver Swan". I wrote a humorous poem, in tribute to him - which was very well-received. I went back to the bar, and had a Guinness - as my friend's family and friends continued to sing and carouse, in the next room.

At some point, the band struck up, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". And the cute barman - my friend, to this very day - said to me, "'A' - on your feet, on your FEET. . . they're playing your national anthem" ;-)

Hi, sweet Drake ~

Well, you have gotten wonderful advice from everyone here - especially Louis, when he encouraged you to stay open (and try out) all forms and genres of music.

Music is a little like food, you know. We grow up loving the things we were presented with, when we were young. . . and new flavours seem strange, unusual, or even unpleasant, to us. Though this is a natural tendency, it is a tendency to be resisted. Because, there are so many miraculous flavors to be tasted, if only we give our palates a chance to become accustomed to them :-)

Walter Pater - who was Oscar Wilde's intellectual hero - famously said, "All art constantly aspires towards the condition of music." Drake, this is just as true today, as it was in the 19th century. Music is the art-form which best reflects and enlarges, the human heart and soul. Though this will be a controversial thing to say - I am certain that all other art-forms, are secondary.

I absolutely approve Louis' suggestion to you that you heed and learn to love every genre you can - from classical music, to classic rock; from folk music to reggae; from techno, to rap. (Did you know that the late, great, Seamus Heaney, winner of the Nobel Prize for poetry, considered Eminem one of the greatest poets, of our time? It's true. I kid you not. http://www.theguardian.com/education/2003/jul/01/highereducation.news

Drake, while I love Louis greatly, and understand (emotionally) his feeling that "classical music" is a part of his past - respectfully, this is Louis' personal issue, and should not be yours. The great music of the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras have stood the test of centuries precisely because they speak to the soul in a unique and perceptibly moving way. Though I shan't be present to collect my money, I will bet you five Canadian dollars, that no one will be talking about (let alone listening to) Lady Gaga, three centuries, from now. But, 265 years after the death of Johann Sebastian Bach - people all over the globe are still rejoicing in the music that Bach composed. Because. . . it is magnificent.

Of course, so is the music being made by so many of our contemporary composers and musicians, Drake. And those who have gone a little bit, before, as well. You should listen to ALL OF THEM, if you want to enjoy a full and happy life, carried aloft by the sounds of genius and inspiration our whole musical history has, to give.

Pray, don't neglect or ignore, ANY of them. In any time, or genre. But, above all, don't neglect a certain skinny, impoverished, starving, little Austrian runt by the name of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. He was - and remains - the greatest, gentlest, and most sublime cartographer of the human heart, who ever put his pen to a musical staff. God spoke directly to Mozart: and his works are eternal.

Hugs,
"A" XOXOXOXOXOXOXO

Ambi,

I think you confused my reference to old classic vs. classical music. I was referring to the classics of the 50's, 60's, 70's etc. I am still a lover of classical music and have posted many videos of such. While I enjoy listening from time to time songs from that period of time, I prefer to listen these days to young artists such as Cody Simpson, Maroon 5, One Direction and many others.

I'm like Louis.....I love music from the past, from the 50's on, all kinds, But I also like to stay up to date, Currently listening to a lot on 1D, Maroon 5, 5 SOS, Cody, Coldplay....also to new Country.....Never to old to learn as they say....plus as terminology changes, music seems to be a good way to keep up with the younger crowd.....but i will never stop listening to my classics from back in the day........

Just for Johnny, from San Francisco -

Judy Garland, live at Carnegie Hall, singing, "The Man That Got Away". (You and I are pretty old-school, I guess ;-)

Kisses,
"A" XOXOXOXOXOXO

Because of the show "True Detective," I'm now loving Lera Lynn.

I did not know that Seamus Heaney said that about Eminem. That was a very good article!!

& about the classical music & Bach, It is majestic, awe-inspiring, and just peaceful.. I usually listen to that kind of music when I am writing a paper. Very relaxing...
