A Festivus for the rest of us!!! And here I thought this was always just an episode of Seinfeld. But it was based on reality. I read a blurb in Parade Magazine today which told about Dan O'Keefe who co-wrote the Festivus episode. He based it on a holiday started by his Father and celebrated on Dec. 23rd. Like the Seinfeld episode, the O'Keefe celebration started with the "Airing of Grievances". However, there was no aluminum pole instead of a tree (the O'Keefes had a tree), and there were no feats of strength. A little piece of pop culture trivia!!!

No Jon, it is satire. Seinfeld was a very successful comedy and Festivus is a humorous made up holiday by George's father Frank Costanza. Chanukah is the Jewish holiday that falls close to Christmas each year.
