Stop by our booth with FCKH8 and say hello if you are in Columbus for Pride.
This is the truly disappointing one. You were there last year and it is not one of your larger Pride venues. Moreover in the past, you have said that one of the factors you use in selecting sites is the dates because so many overlap. Well, this one overlaps with Denver so you must be deploying two groups to cover each of them. Much the same as you must be deploying two groups to cover St. Louis and Minn. since they both fall on the same weekend of the 28th & 29th.
Now I realize you probably will never come (back) to Pittsburgh since I live here and have been the bane of your existence on this whole Pride issue. But I make the case for Pittsburgh because:
1. It is bigger than Columbus;
2. It draws from a bigger area including eastern Ohio, northern West Va., and Western Maryland where there are gay communities which don't have any significant Pride celebrations.
3. You were last here in 2010 (before I was a
Broke Straight Boys member) and the event has exponentially grown since then.
4. We have had prime entertainment for our Saturday Pride in the Streets including Jennifer Holliday, Melissa Etheridge, and last year Adam Lambert. This year will feature Chaka Khan. Last year there were over 8,000 people for that event.
5. On Sunday, our Pridefest draws more than 10,000 people which would be a great source for potential new customers for
Broke Straight Boys
6. At the beginning of 2013 when you solicited ideas from members as to Pride event locations, I wrote to suggest Pittsburgh; I told you through my work in the community here, I knew some of the top people in the Delta Foundation which runs Pride and I could connect you up with them to try to make sure you got the best rates, booth sites, etc. I never even had the courtesy of a response last year or this.
Now to be truthful, from my perspective, I could care less whether you ever come back to Pittsburgh or not. Given my health situation, I have gone to Pride in the Streets once and never the Pridefest. Although if I knew
Broke Straight Boys were going to be there, I would make every effort possible to get there. But I, unlike some other forumites, do not have any great need or desire to interact with the models. If I had the chance to meet them and I could get there, fine. But I'm not going to go into a blue funk if I never do.
I advocate for Pittsburgh because the potential for new business from
Broke Straight Boys's viewpoint is greater if for no other reason than the number of attendees and the wider geographic area from which they are drawn.
As I have always averred Denver makes sense since it is the home of
Broke Straight Boys You go to too many places in southern California. I do congratulate you for the few new places that you have announced thus far and maybe you'll surprise us with even more.
And 'til my dying breath I will always contend that you should go to NYC Pride every year as it is the birthplace of the modern gay rights movement and Pride itself. It should be NYC, Denver, and then plan the rest.
