Your absolutly correct, such were the days. But such are these days... just with a new controversy.
It’s imperative that we recognize the rights of all individuals and the respect that should be afford to all people based on the primary foundation that they too are human if for no other reason. Irrespective of personal, religious or moral beliefs and opinions. The same rights that allow us to create and share our thoughts and opinions must always continue to promote the acceptance of others ability to conceive thoughts, dreams, beliefs and opinions. Disagreeing is a natural reaction to conflict or a different agenda. We must never allow our personal feelings to prevent another from believing theirs. If we do then we must equally forfeit our right to as well.
I am not saying I agree with Chik-Fil-A or stand by their opinion. In fact I’m appalled that especially in this era , with as much as society has diversified, they felt it necessary to publicly announce their bigotry. One day this world will see unified and universal equality in regards to same sex relations and marriage. Its not a battle won over night and the most important asset we can employ is patience and understanding. It will just take time and understanding and the ability to lead by example. As we demand tolerance, we cannot be intolerant of others.
Chik-Fil-A is a business. Obviously one with a very poor public relations division. (The VP of PR for Chik-Fil-A actually recently died of a heart attack unexpectedly) People are well within their right to boycott the establishment and disagree with them, as its easily disagreeable. Now I don’t eat fast food so I don’t patronize this particular place, but if I did I would bet it would be for the chicken sandwich and not their position on marriage.
Chik-Fil-A is an American Business success story. I don’t feel I have the right or ability to tell a corporation, the empire people built, how to spend the money they earned by providing a competitive product and surviving the trials of the day to day market. They now have over 1500 outlets employing over 50,000 people with over 50,000 opinions.
Although I disagree with their opinion they have a right to have it. I can only continue to not patronize their restaurant so that I don’t unintentionally give my money to such organizations that I disagree with. Side note, the group of us who go on tour have unanimously agreed not to patronize Chik-Fil-A.
