Earlier this month I started a thread about how we could celebrate Pride here at Broke Straight Boys The Stonewall Rebellion, the birth-mother of the Gay civil rights movement and Pride observances, started on June 27, 1969 and lasted to the morning of June 29, 1969.

I suggested that to observe that occasion and to celebrate Pride here at Broke Straight Boys, people use one of the Broke Straight Boys Pride avatars or one of their own creation from June 27-29. That's this Wednesday coming up.

Several people have joined me in adopting a gay pride avatar even sooner than the 27th. I am using this thread to ask once again that as many of my fellow forumites as possible - gay or straight allies - adopt some type of Pride avatar or Pride theme in their own avatar for these three days. We owe alot to the drag queens and others who finally said enough back in 1969. This is just one small way we can show solidarity with them and acknowledge what they did back then.

Thanks to all who have shown Pride in their avatars thus far, and to those who will join us this coming week.

Got it Stowe! I will gladly change mine as well. I sue the models' avatars just so they know I support them, but hey, this is special.

Thank you, JLipps and Another1. This is a small symbol of solidarity with our brothers and sisters from years past and present and a reminder to the future that we cannot ever forget how things were before Stonewall and how much we have achieved in the years since, while acknowledging the work yet to be done until we reach full civil rights equality.

From Russia with love

In Russia it's illegal to organize a Gay Pride. Those that try get beaten up by riot police.

So this week in Berlin they protested against the homophobic president Putin and first minister Medvedev. They carried a picture of both in the style of Pierre en Gilles.

Stand up for love, stand up against Putin and Medvedev!

Happy Pride week everyone. Tomorrow is our annual Seattle gay pride parade. Weather should be good so looking forward to enjoying the festivities.

Thanks, peterh, for joining our Pride commemoration. Seattle's a great city - spent some time there back in the mid-70's for work. Have a cousin who lives in Kent. Have a great Pride parade and celebration.

Robert, your post about the situation in Russia speaks to the point of the need for worlwide Pride solidarity. Similar situations exist in a number of Eastern European countries, although thanks to the constitution of the European Union those who want to join have to adhere to its human rights provisions at least officially. That's a start but the influence of the churches in some of those countries, Christian though they claim to be, foster the atmosphere of bigotry and hatred so anathema to Jesus Himself.

I am envious! Wish I was in SeAttle to enjoy that.
And I am getting ready to hop on the subway for a few short stops and going to NYC Pride and visit with Sha, Jason, Blake, Denver & Cole.

I will report back this evening.

Happy Gay Pride Day to all attending events today.
