BSB 1 - Producer David Adamson gives an update on the models from BSB's early days!

I commented on a previous post about this. He has a very enlightening YouTube channel. I enjoy his content. I really hope more people become subscribers to it. A lot of the stuff he talks about is interesting and it’s nice to reminisce.

I agree it was a FABULOUS video reminiscing about our "Boys of Summer". Great job David and thanks to nitefly for the link. Without David, the futon and Broke Straight Boys-1 we wouldn't be here today in my opinion. Ot is history with one stage leading to the next. He was kind of the "George Washington" of Broke Straight Boys We need a Mount Rushmore of Broke Straight Boys with Tyler Evans Diesal, Tank Shane and David in the middle! lol

Interesting video. I was sad though to hear some had passed away, and it sounded like there were quite a few.

I’d be interested to hear about some of the models from the past 5 years that have moved on to other things.

I find it so interesting Jay, that all members here seem to pine for the boys who were popular when they first became a a fan of Broke Straight Boys It is much like I've noticed that most people seem to say that the music from their era when they first became aware of music was the "best" era of music.

To me "the best", (which is a very subjective term) era for Broke Straight Boys was the early days of David and the futon with Tyler Evans Deisel, Mike Robbins, Tank Shane, Logan, Alden & Robert, etc etc. I have friends who became a fan when Clay was hiring the boys for Broke Straight Boys-2 and Bobby, Colin, Mick, Blake, and then Kodi and Johnny Forza, Tyler White and......you get the idea.

You Jay are talking about the guys from the last five years which might be called Broke Straight Boys-3 or Broke Straight Boys-4, lol. As a fan of the site for the long haul, whether I like a particular group of current models or not, I kind of take it all in. It is the directors who hire the models and as we have gone from David to Clay to Johnny Robins to Damian Christopher to now Sha and Bryce, I would guess that each particular director could do their own, "whatever happened to" segment.

I would also be into a video or a post about the more recent models who have been here and moved on......I am a huge fan of all things Broke Straight Boys, past present and future!

This is a wonderful video. I posted comments on David's youtube video page. I asked him to do an "In Memoriam" video even though I realize it might be a sad venture for him.

I agree with the suggestion made earlier that his might be something management here might consider as a BTS video. A "Where Are They Now" video on some of the more recent models who have moved on. Just a thought.

And we have always appreciated your support. I will always treasure our meet and conversation we had that year at pride. One correction. I have been involved in the hiring process of the models over the term of each director with the exception of when David directed.

Oh Sha, I hope you will let us know if you guys will be making any further public pride appearances. I would love to meet you.

Thank you very much for saying that Sha. Obviously for me it was a very special day, being greeted as warmly as I was by Blake & Jason and meeting Denver and Cole as well. And then when you and I spent time together and you gave me some insight about Jimmy Johnson and answered my questions about Broke Straight Boys-1. As they say in Yiddish, you were a total mensch and it makes me feel good to know that you remember our meeting as well. You are a class act Shannon! :001_cool:

If you ever get the opportunity to meet Sha in person, you will be very impressed. He's a great guy. :001_wub:

David has posted another episode of "Where Are They Now-Broke Straight Boys"

As David reminds us in the video he was the director of Broke Straight Boys-1 from it's inception back in 2006 through scenes released in March 2011. Any models after that date were not produced and directed by D&E. Unfortunately in this episode we learn of the passing of several of my all time favorites including Preston and Leon and others. One of my all time favorites was Jordan Grant, a truly beautiful, truly straight boy, who is still alive today and I learned that he was a college student who was a NCAA golfer during his porn career. I loved Jordan very much, and he is still alive today. David talks about many other of his boys, some still alive and some who have passed.

For fans of Broke Straight Boys-1, this is a great update of many of the models who passed through our archives. I thoroughly enjoyed David's latest update on his youtube channel!

I am glad that David is able to put together an update for all the "old timers" on Broke Straight Boys of where are they now as I know alot of people on the forum want to know about previous models. For me this episode raises s number of questions about duty of care to these young men. Not so much when they are at the studio filming because I believe from reading various threads that all of them have a good time and are well looked after. The question foremost in my mind, and I will refer to Pheonix here is should he have been given a chance in the first place. This is nothing to do with his social background but the fact as David stated that he had mental health issues, violent tendencies and drug addiction. This to me is a lethal combination and yes he may well have been on his best behaviour while filming, but rather than take him on in his current state would it not have been better to encourage him to seek help to get him clean first, then invite him back to perform ? Knowing that the scenes are released several months after filming, knowing that a very active, critical and sometimes confrontational forum from its members exists then as it does now, knowing that some models do read their comments could have produced a dangerous and potentially lethal situation for someone with mental health issues and violent tendencies fuelled by drug addiction. Now I know we cannot know everything about a performer, but if they are up front about issues such as mental health , and we know of their tendency to violence and drug addiction I think it would have been in everyone's interests to have encouraged them to seek help. The porn industry is a cut throat business, if you try to fit into a niche and you no longer fit the criteria, this must have a damaging effect on one that has mental health issues. Perhaps this is a lesson learned from the sad story of Pheonix.

This is a very valid point and I totally agree and understand your view point. When a model applies to a porn studio and I think everyone in the porn industry goes through this, a model applies and looking for work and they are on there best behavior. When we hire a model or anyone in this business, we don't find out about them until we actually get to know them. This usually happens the 2nd or 3rd time we hire them back, the model feels very comfortable and then we start learning about them. In some cases, we really don't know what the model is like after they return home but in many cases, we start to see there true behavior as they get a lot more comfortable with filming with us or any particular studio.

Some models it takes a few trips to return back for them to show there "true colors" while others it only takes a few days of having them around. This depends on the individual model. I can tell you the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to dealing with models. There have been some remarkable guys that came and went over the years but its the bad ones that really make an impression. Once you find out a models "true" personality, you don't hire them back and most often they go to another studio and film.

Besides Phoenix, I will tell you about a model that I hired and filmed for for College Boy Physicals and Boy Gusher sites...he goes by the name LJ, this guy at first had a great personality but as time went on and we got to know him better and he felt comfortable with our studio, this guy turned out to be a nutcase and we ended up not hiring him back and we banned him from using him again. Then months later, I noticed Shannon hired him and placed him on the Broke Straight Boys site..he did only a few scenes on Broke Straight Boys but not sure how he was with Shannon and filming with Broke Straight Boys but when I saw LJ appearing on Broke Straight Boys both Eddie and I rolled our heads and stated, "good luck to Shannon dealing with LJ"....not sure if LJ was a nutcase with Shannon so it would be great to hear Shannon's feedback about LJ...just curious.

So although your comments are great, we just dont know when hiring a model what outcome they will be once we get to know them and film them more and how they are going to turn out and what personality they will have.

Thank you David for your reply, it's much appreciated that you have taken the time to do this. Sorry I may have misunderstood what you had said about Pheonix as I thought he'd been up front about his issues. If however it takes two or three visits before you learn about their problems then I understand you may not be able to do anything straight away. Thanks for mentioning LJ, I don't know this model but will now look him up and it would be interesting to get Sha's take on his behaviour while at Broke Straight Boys

DAVID, I also appreciate the explanation. I pretty much figured this was the case. Having dealt with so many hustler types back in the day. You think you are helping the guy. Maybe even have a soft spot for them and the next thing you know they have stolen the vcr. No one hires a bad employee on purpose but sometimes you realize it after the fact. The guys who are willing to do porn. Especially the straight guys are often in desperate situations of one kind or another. I understand this situation completely.

And in Phoenix case, he was a fresh new face and we were the first studio that hired him. After we hired him and filmed him for several scenes thereafter, we learned about his past and even though he told me he was in jail, you would *think* being in jail a person would wise up so with us he was at his best behavior...it was after he got the taste of fame and money that he went and applied to other studios and then we found out that he was trouble, acting out, beat up people so even after that, we didn't hire him back and we hadn't heard from him for the longest time but heard all the drama and crazy he's done in the industry to others then out of the blue about 2 years ago he did contact us for work and he did send his pictures into us but he was no longer a "boy"...he aged really bad...he looked like he had a really hard life and you can tell. Once we told him no we aren't going to hire him, we had no contact until we found out from you guys on this forum he passed away and the trouble he got himself into....but he is just a handful of guys, most of the guys are good and have respect and are just doing this to earn extra money.

Thank you so much David for sharing all those stories of the models. It's sad for us as viewers and fans of the site, and fans of the models, to hear when they didn't have stereotypical fairy tale happy endings to their porn careers. But it is real life. So those of us who are more worldly know to expect some sadder and even tragic circumstances for some former models.

I'm very sorry to hear about all of the ones who are no longer with us. Leon is one whose premature death really shocked me. Such tragic circumstances. Preston also was such a sweetheart. I wish he could have conquered his demons. But whether it's "only" depression, bipolar disorder, severe OCD, or a plethora of other debilitating mental health diagnoses...it's extremely difficult to get them under control without a lot of professional help and an at-home support network.

David's description of Preston's final words to David as well as memories of the model Danny (Blue eyes) brings this up for me. This part I would like to direct not just to David and Eddie but also to the past and current Broke Straight Boys team including Mark, Sha, Sabrina Bryce, Thunder and anyone else's name who escapes me right now. I want to thank you all so much for providing your models with a semblance of a supportive adopted family type of environment when they arrived/arrive to film with you. Those of us whose childhoods were not necessarily perfect but were at least functional and somewhat "normal", have no idea of some of the total dysfunction some of these models have witnessed by the time they reach your doorstep. It sounds like many of them were already damaged and among the walking wounded by the time you first met them.

Just the simple act of preparing them decent homecooked meals and having a family-style gathering around the table to share meals together, is something that obviously too many of them are not used to. Maybe their childhoods were filled with so much alcoholism, domestic violence, mental health issues, child abuse and drug abuse among the parent(s) raising them, that mealtimes were remembered as horror shows. Or sometimes maybe they didn't get meals at all and went hungry.

One thing that has dawned on me over the years of watching some of these models come and go, (along with your descriptions of some of their circumstances in other posts) is that some of these guys arrive at the model house after literally having gone hungry for days, weeks or even months on end. Some of them are so broke and down on their luck that they can't afford groceries. Or maybe they're on a fast-food, one small meal per day kind of diet. To have nice, communal, structured, well balanced home-cooked meals (with meat even) in an emotionally safe and supportive environment...and where they can safely ask for and get seconds or more until they're actually full...can feel like a Disney-esque experience for them. It must be a humbling yet also gratifying experience to see so many of these guys show up literally hungry and have them be so grateful and appreciative to be well fed once they arrive.

Over the years we've seen models show up who are very thin or have sunken-in cheekbones or pasty white skin. Of course some people are naturally very skinny at younger ages or even later adulthood, and they're perfectly healthy and well nourished. On the other hand for those of us who are a little more jaded to the ways of the world, we might see combinations of all of these signs and jump to our go-to diagnosis of drug abuse. And likely we would be right about that a vast majority of the time. However we've seen a few models here on Broke Straight Boys over the years who in spite of skinniness, sunken cheekbones, an unhealthy looking pallor to the skin, lack of sparkle in the eye, etc., who I actually don't think were abusing drugs. I think they were suffering from extended bouts of malnutrition. (And/or a very unbalanced, unhealthy diet of whatever they were actually eating.)

Just to give a couple of examples, when I first saw Danny show up I was very taken with his beauty. However when I saw his skinniness I thought it didn't look quite right on his frame. And I thought that not in a body shaming kind of way. It just clicked with me that something wasn't quite right. But I couldn't discern at the time exactly what it was. I myself was much skinnier than Danny when I was his age. But for me it was just the genetics of a naturally thin build along with a very high metabolism. Then years later David shared with us that Danny had been trying to go to college without parental support. Probably some bad history, drama and dysfunction in his relationship with them. Regardless though, Danny shared with David that he had been going hungry trying to support himself as a proverbial (and real) starving college student. He just couldn't afford to pay for school, keep a roof over his head, and buy decent groceries. Meat was so prohibitively expensive for him that he was substituting eggs as his protein for meals. David said that Danny actually told him that he was so thrilled to be getting real meat in his meals while he stayed there for filming.

Then it made sense to me that Danny's skinniness and the way something looked slightly off on his frame, was because he really was under-weight from his normal body build. I'm guessing maybe 5-15 lbs less than what he would have been if he was eating normally.

The other would-be model that I clued in on right away was someone who never became a real model here. It was the guy we called "Desperate Mike". He was a very down on his luck straight kid who showed up at the Broke Straight Boys house in Colorado only because gay porn was the absolute last resort he could think of to bring in some decent quick cash. He was at his wits end. I'm guessing that he was at least borderline homeless, if not truly homeless. And he was definitely penniless. He shared before his first scene that he had a ton of reservations about doing gay for pay because he was straight and came from a very strong conservative Christian background. He did not make it as a model and ended up cancelling his first scene while on the set. So I can only imagine how thrilled the staff was to have him waste their time and company money flying him in from out of state, putting him up in the house, and then having to turn around and pay for him to fly back home. I felt so sorry for him. But I digress.

The reason I bring him up is because he had just about every one of the physical signs of drug abuse. But I don't think it was drugs. Although it's possible and I'll never know for certain. But he was very skinny, had sunken-in cheekbones, dull eyes, an unhealthy skin tone and so on. But I think the guy was actually suffering from a more prolonged and severe state of malnutrition. That's why after the video showed him leaving the house early with Sabrina to go to the airport, I wrote in a post in here at the time that If I knew Mark and Sabrina, I'm sure they at least offered him some breakfast before they left.

We don't know all of these guys' stories and circumstances when they show up at a D&E or Broke Straight Boys model house. So please guys... Regardless of whether a model shows arrives from the airport or his home by car at an extremely late or early hour... Please offer him/them something to eat even if it's 2 or 3 am. Even if it's just a sandwich and chips or some heated up soup. Pride or shyness may stand in the way of them asking for food at unusual hours. But I know I would sleep better at night knowing that I offered it to them and gave them the choice. And I would always feel much better in my soul knowing that nobody staying as a house guest in my home would ever leave my home truly hungry.

Sha, Mikeyank has told me about that meet and greet several times and I have seen the signed towel. I guess they aren’t doing the Pride events anymore but those were fun to watch. I haven’t been around nearly as long. I joined during the hay day of the colorado mansion and all those behind the scenes were really great. I for one always enjoy the behind the scenes and the fact that you guys communicate with us as much or maybe more than the porn. There is lots of porn around but you guys have a special niche with the forum and behind the scenes.

Mark seems to be really trying to promote the forum with his threads and I want you guys to know that we do appreciate when you communicate with us and that we have this forum to communicate and dish!
