I'm glad you like it so far. Actually about 90% of the show was unscripted. We had plans on what the guys did each day but things just unfolded in an extraordinary way and the cast was just a great combination of different personalities.
Again, I don't regularly watch Survivor, The Amazing Race, Big Brother, The Bachelor, The Jersey Shore and certainly nothing with Kardashians in them but from what I read or the parts that I have "accidentally" caught, there is too much coincidence that things "just happen" when the cameras are on. And this show is no exception.
Like the kid who was about to film a scene with Paul, and walks out as the
Broke Straight Boys-TV cameras record his reaction, and Denver coming back after apparently a six month absence to film his "last scenes" for
Broke Straight Boys during the filming of the TV show and how off camera, he keeps describing to us how much he is done with porn. And his leaving the house is very misleading, as he says goodbye to his housemates, as they all live together, rather than that just happened to be the crew staying there at that time.
And of course all the situations with Jimmy seem so contrived, such as they find out that he does not have a clean test, just as they are about to get naked to film their scene. And why did Jimmy's girlfriend come to visit, and why was Jimmy even in the house, two and a half years after he filmed his last scene for
Broke Straight Boys? And how
Cage Kafig was talking to Jimmy's girlfriend and telling her how Jimmy hooked up with other women in Las Vegas, just as the cameras were rolling to set-up the big fight in the
Cage Kafig.
The things I enjoyed most were the glimpses into the real workings of the site. I particularly enjoyed watching Clay work with the models. I was never a fan of Clay's, but I know that a lot of that was my own resentment of David not being retained and Clay being his replacement. I wasn't a fan of Clay's style, but he seemed like a descent fellow with a nice personality. And I can never get too much of watching Paul, and I do consider him the star of
Broke Straight Boys, post David, and he was the star of the TV show too. I also liked Sergio's personality much more than I enjoy his porn work, and Adam is always a pleasure to watch, either naked or dressed.
I'm sorry for being too critical and negative, but I guess my criticism is more directed at the whole genre of "reality TV", more than this particular TV show. But
Broke Straight Boys is very important to me, and so I subscribed and will of course watch the remaining four episodes when they are released, but overall this show fits right into the formula of a genre which I do not enjoy.
