Broke Straight Boys Coming To Television

Damian ,

As a huge Broke Straight Boys fan, your new concept completely changes my anticipation of actually viewing the program. To me, it is like my friends or family were going to be on a reality show, as if the cast is comprised of models as well as Sabrina, Sha, Mark and perhaps Johnny Robins, it will be like watching people that I already know on a television show.

Can you tell us if the models cast are all models who've appeared already on Broke Straight Boys, or might there be some unknown cast members?

As far as the picture goes, I am waiting for betu, and another1 to identify the models with their faces blacked out.

Ever since the MTV True Life episode of Aaron James from College Dudes/247 (2008), I have been intrigued by the "guys behind the porn" that I watch. Coupled with my other intrigue, RHOA....etc, I look forward to Broke Straight Boys-TV!

I am glad to learn that it has changed the original concept of a "Competition" scenario; (ie; I Love NY, Tela Tequilia , Bret Michaels) type of feel, to more of a documentary.

I look forward to with anticipation to the release!

The show is The Real World with porn stars, but it's done in a way that educates the audience and immerses them in the world of porn. The cast is made up of current, past, and newbies, but you'll love (or hate) them as you get to know them and what makes them tick. It's a load of fun!

Damian!

Thank you so much for giving us this much of an introduction as to what to expect. I much prefer the sound of what you guys did here vs. a competition type show with various winners and losers. If the general public only knew what a wonderful little family we have here at Broke Straight Boys comprising models, staff and members alike, I think they would be amazed. The dynamics of the relationships among models and staff are riveting with a mixture of comedy and serious drama. The life stories of some of the models and the disparate motivations they bring to the table for doing the video work are something a writer of fiction would have a hard time making up.

Of course I say, "If the general public only knew..." in jest. :) Since I know that they will hopefully soon get a ringside seat to what so many of us new and longtime members have known since we joined. lol This is a site with a compelling premise. It never ceases to cause members, staff and models (and soon a viewing audience) to ponder the minutia of describing human sexual orientation. It's obviously not something you can pigeonhole with easy labels that fit neatly into a gay or straight paradigm. Even the labels of gay, straight and bi don't always suffice to describe something so complex (and sometimes fluid) for each individual.

Broke Straight Boys is so unique from a sociological standpoint, compared to standard gay porn sites, that I think it has the potential to highlight many of the salient issues of: human sexual orientation in the beginning of the 21st century, internet fame, internet porn (both gay and straight) and public attitudes towards same, working conditions in the porn industry behind the cameras, homophobia, HIV-AIDS, civil rights for LGBT and even gay marriage.

The watercooler conversations and dinner party discussions that could arise from a show about the site, are nearly endless with possibility. :)

Thanks, Damian, for the update. I wish people would be patient about this. There's so much about post-production that's out of Broke Straight Boys's control. I totally sympathize. This past year, I finished writing my first two books, and dealing with presses and their review processes and their committee votes and their legal contracts--I don't know when these books are ever going to see the light of day. All my friends are like, "Aren't you done yet?" And the answer is, Yes, and Hell, No. So, anyways, I'm really psyched to see the show, whether it's sooner or later.

Well said! All i can say is that viewers are in for a ride when they see this show. It's compelling on a myriad of levels. I think the message boards will be a lot busier when it airs!

Patience is the key when dealing with a project on this level. At least now members know that it is completed and we've actually done what we promised. I'm excited for everyone to see it!

I never doubted that you guys kept your word Damian. haha  One of the perks of being around forevvver means that we knew Mark told us a while back that the show had gone into post-production. I believe he even told us that the post-production was completed. It's a very good thing though to remind us and to clue in new members to that fact. New members join the site every day. So repetition can be a very good thing in this business. lol

One of the best things I take away from your postings though Damian is that the project is not dead in the water. That you guys are working hard on getting deals ironed out with various networks, internet content providers, etc., and that hopefully sooner than later...viewers around the globe will be able to see it. :)

So basically, the original concept of having a live tv fly on the wall like Big Brother has changed. Now we have a documentary about Broke Straight Boys, the models and the staff. Bit like an elongated BTS - does me.

The only thing that the show has in common with the BTS is that they both show what happens behind the scenes. The BTS are great glimpses behind the scenes, but the stuff you'll see on the show will be completely different. You'll really get to know the porn biz, the guys, and the staff on a deeper and more personal level-- even at times when they aren't at their best during moments of personal drama and/or conflict.

The phrase docu-series has been used increasingly over the past couple of years in TV. Sometimes it refers to reality shows that are a little more substantive, and take a little more of a classic documentary stance in that they follow a person’s life in a slightly less exploitative way. Our show is The Real World meets the world of porn. The only thing that changed is that it is no longer a competition show with a prize awarded in the end. Hope that helps!

We have a team hard at work working out all the millions of details that comes with putting a show on television--especially one about porn. I know you all will be proud of what we've accomplished as we really tried to explore what the members have been wanting to see along with what the general public would want to see. Stay tuned for more info!

On a side note Damian, I just have to say that I love your writing style. :)

I really hope it gets to be shown on one of the main terrestrial channels over here in the uk as we dont all have satellite and cable. I wonder if, after it has been shown on TV, that this site may show the series to it's members.

We are aiming to have the widest release available and the international market is on our list. Stay tuned.
