WARNING-THIS POST IS GOING TO BE LONG.

I have been writing this letter in my head for months and months and finally made it enough of a priority to take the time to sit down and actually write and post it.

First of all, a little background for context. I have been a Broke Straight Boys member since 2010, going back to BSB1 produced by David and Eddie. I have seen the evolution/changes of Broke Straight Boys since then, from D&E to Clay to Johnny (spelling?) to Sha/Bryce, including the changes of locations and others in the background (like Sabrina). While I sometimes jump on and read threads on the Forum, I do not do so often, and this is probably my fifth or sixth post since joining. My life is busy, hectic and complicated (as my screen name somewhat indicates).

Next, the positive. I have remained a Broke Straight Boys customer all of these years because I am generally very happy with the quality of the models. Unlike the very eloquent MikeYank, I do not need to be convinced that the models are straight (nor broke), but I do agree that they should not be overly effeminate or “Nellie.” For me the site could be called “Broke (or not) Straightish Boys,” so long as the models are young (18-23 is my “sweet spot”), good looking (recognizing that what constitutes good looking is subjective), have nice bodies, and are straight acting. I also hope that the vast majority of the models will be cut (personal preference related to my religion/ethnicity) as there are plenty of other sites featuring mostly uncut guys. What is most important to me regarding the models (other than what I mentioned above) is their passion and the chemistry between the models when performing with other models. The fact that most scenes now start with the models making out is extremely hot, especially when they have that chemistry (the recent Ashton-Tanner scene was unbelievably hot in my opinion).

Again, for context, my favorites from the old days include Shane Willis, Jason Matthews, Logan, Tyler Evans Colin, and Josh Stuart (not necessarily in that order nor is this list exhaustive). From the current crop, I can’t get enough of Ashton Taylor (and look forward to his next scenes) and I also include in my list of current favorites Oliver, Tanner, Dillon, Rowan, Chris Taylor, Tyler Griffin and Kaden Alexander/Kyle Porter. Since he falls somewhere in between chronologically, I list Ronan Kennedy separately, as he is also one of my all-time favorites.

Instead, my disappointment is directed to the videography and editing. Not the quality of the images, which is excellent, but the number of times the video is being shot using angles and/or distance that either blocks what I (and I believe most if not all of the viewers) want to see but often do not. Although I am not a professional videographer, it does not seem that difficult to me to make sure that when filming pornography the person behind the camera is capturing those parts of the models’ bodies that are of primary interest. Far too often we see parts of arms, legs, sides of the body, etc. instead of cocks, balls, nipples, etc. I understand that everyone has their preferences and I am not questioning shots that pan the models’ bodies so that someone who is into feet, legs, arms, chests, asses, etc. gets a chance to view those parts. Instead, I am talking about those shots where, for example, the bottom is on his back getting pounded and jerking on his cock, but instead of seeing his cock, it is blocked by the top’s right arm. Why does that happen? It seems very simple to slowly move a few inches to capture the action rather than to remain fixed on that blocking arm. This is but one of many examples where this happens.

And why does Bryce often back up (or pull the lens back) just as one of the guys (typically the bottom) is about to shoot? In my humble opinion, every model should be instructed to make sure he says when he is about to cum and Bryce should make sure he is shooting standing next to the bottom’s head so that the cum shot is directed towards the viewer. If for artistic or other reasons he wants to get a different perspective, then have a second camera available just for the cum shot so that both perspectives are captured and can be included in the editing. I can’t imagine that would add much cost to the production, especially if you let one of the models hold the second camera for a few extra bucks.

Additionally, I assume that Mark/Sha/Bryce and whomever else is involved in the process has an opportunity to view the models’ bodies before a shoot. Recognizing that we are all human (even beautiful young men) and have our flaws, it seems elementary to me that if a guy happens to have a boil/giant zit/bad acne outbreak, nasty wound, etc. on a particular part of his body that day, that Bryce could make it a point to shoot from an angle that does not accentuate that particular part of his body, but instead shows off those parts that are really beautiful and unblemished. Again, it seems pretty basic to me and I am curious why that does not happen.

Another is the number of times that it seems that Bryce does not seem to take into account the basic rule of photography that you should never shoot into light (or a white background), especially during a cum shot. Far too often we miss the spurting because he shot towards the window while the model was cumming.

But my biggest disappointment of all, which is very easily corrected, is the nature of the editing of the end of each scene, which overall has gotten worse during the last year (but I’ve been teased from time to time to think that perhaps a change for the better has taken place, only to be disappointed again when seeing that it was apparently only a one-time anomaly).

In the “old days,” the scene would typically begin with an interview that often lasted up to five minutes (David’s could drive one to suicide). Changing that so that the first interview with a new model takes place separately, and any other speaking before the guys get down to action being very short, was a wonderful change for the better. With that change, final, edited scenes, which used to be on average 20 minutes or longer, are now typically 15 minutes on average. Again, I do not have an issue with that change per se. What drives me absolutely nuts however, is how little time is typically allowed after the model(s) cum before the scene ends. Personally, I find not only the actual cumming hot, but what happens right afterwards. Watching a beautiful young man continue to stroke his cock after his orgasm, often involuntarily and without being aware that he is doing so, will often be what gets me off. However, when right after cumming one of the models says to the other words to the effect of “let’s hit the shower,” or “let’s eat,” and jumps off the bed 20 seconds after he shot his load, is not only unnatural, but denies those of us who enjoy the post-orgasm stroking (which, as demonstrated by the recent Ashton-Tanner scene sometimes involves one of the guys playing with the other’s cock, making out, eating the cum off of the other guy’s cock and/or stomach/ chest, etc.). While a viewer who may not be into such things (which I can’t imagine but I guess it’s possible) has the option of turning off the scene at that point, if it’s not included then those of us who want to see that are denied the opportunity. While the camera was typically allowed to run for a while post-orgasm during solos (because Sha would typically ask the model how it was) even the recent solo by Landon Wells had him announcing that he is a “Broke Straight Boys” fairly soon after cumming.

I sometimes think that Sha is not comfortable at the end of a scene unless someone (usually him) is speaking. But if you go back and review the scenes Johnny shot, he would often just let the camera keep running after the guys shot their loads, without any words being spoken for at least a minute. There they lay, stroking their cocks, or making out, or doing a little frottage (again, thank you Ashton for a little frottage action at the end of your scene).

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Management, keep the camera running for at least a solid minute, if not 1-2 minutes after the guys cum, and let them do whatever comes naturally. Even Tanner, who in the beginning could not stand the fact that he had cum on his body and would typically jump up to grab a towel and wipe it off of him (and often his scene partner’s body) seems more comfortable as demonstrated by his scene with Ashton. I am not suggesting that a guy who is not into it do so, but many of the models have demonstrated in the past that they enjoy licking cum off of the other guy, making out at the end of the scene, stroking the other guy’s cock, etc. And, at a minimum, let them keep stroking their own cocks and not rush them off the bed. If you do so I promise I will remain a loyal Broke Straight Boys customer for years to come (or cum).

Thank you for allowing me to share my thoughts with you and our fellow members.

What a great post, Bithebi, and not just because you referred to me as, " the very eloquent MikeYank". lol But you obviously have been around here a very long time as you know the models and the directors and the behind the scenes people and I would hope that management takes your points very seriously as you are obviously a long time member who pays attention and cares, and is a loyal paying customer as well. I largely agree with most of your points, disagree with a few and am indifferent to a few as well, but we are all different people who view Broke Straight Boys as we do life in general from our own unique perspective and we all have our own priorities, which is as it should be.

It's interesting that Oldfart seems to harp on the same themes as you do Bithebi regarding the technical aspects of how the the scenes are being shot. In my opinion David and Clay were the best technical directors of getting all the shots right, and Johnny Robbins had a different style, but from both viewing his scenes and interacting with him on the forum, he truly cared about his craft and had a plan. I admit that I am not a technocrat when it comes to viewing porn, but all of your points and oldfart's points do make sense to me when they are pointed out, and perhaps Bryce and Sha should reevaluate both the technical aspects of the shooting and the presentation.

Again, I come here mainly looking for other aspects of Broke Straight Boys than you do Bithebi, but you are obviously knowledgeable and I would hope that management carefully reads your post and considers implementing some of your suggestions in future shoots. From my ridiculous number of posts here, going on 14,000, (Holy Crap!) besides not having a life, I also obviously care about the site and appreciate someone who takes the time to discuss these aspects of the state of the scenes. Thanks again for a most thought provoking and interesting to me post. And thanks again for calling me "eloquent". As Peter often tells me that above all else on this forum, I am an "attention whore". lol :001_smile:

AMEN! Praise Jesus! You took the words right out of my mouth, and beautifully, too. I wish I'd said all that!

Very sweet, too!

Thank you for a great post filled with useful feedback and advice!

First of all let me just say that I'll work on keeping a closer eye on this. It usually doesn't happen with the seasoned guys but it happens often with new models. Because we shoot 20-25 scenes in 7 days, the most likely cause of the problem is due to shooting 3 - 5 scenes per day. I think we are just being rushed to keep up the 3X updates plus BTS and only have the guys in town for 1 week so this is where a scene can easily fall between the cracks. It's a quality control issue and the solution is to slow down and pay better attention. Thanks for identifying the problem so clearly as it makes it easier to see what the solution needs to be.

And why does Bryce often back up (or pull the lens back) just as one of the guys (typically the bottom) is about to shoot?

There are two main reasons. When I first started filming I would get great shots of cum erupting for the guys dick. But we got so many complaints from people complaining about them not being able to see the facial expressions and so they couldn't get off just by seeing the cum so I started doing longer shots that was sure to capture not only the dick but the facial expression of the guy cumming. The other reason is we have some guys like John Henry that will shoot 4-6 ft and so a longer shot has a better likelihood of showing the audience how strong the cum shot was. Let me think about a way to work around this. Our camera costs about $4K plus hiring another camera man and housing him isn't possible with our budget so I'll need to think on this to see if something can be done to help.

I hear you. For example, Ashton is beautiful. But he bikes and has boils on his ass. I could shoot Ashton and never get underneath shots or have him show his ass, but then I know I'm going to get crucified for not getting good penetration shots or shots of the tops ass while he is pounding away on the bottom. It's a real catch22 on this. We have flown models in, had them tested, and then not been able to shoot with them because they had some blemish type issue that was just unworkable. Think Jock itch or the like. We try to vet and get all that information before we spend money on bringing them out but models aren't honest or they simply don't think they have a problem until we tell them. This is a really hard one that haunts us constantly and costs us precious money and eats away at our own labor (scheduling, testing, transpo, hr, etc). So please know we hear you loud and clear. I hope we can find a way out from between the rock and hard place we find ourselves with this one way too often.

Another is the number of times that it seems that Bryce does not seem to take into account the basic rule of photography that you should never shoot into light (or a white background), especially during a cum shot. Far too often we miss the spurting because he shot towards the window while the model was cumming.

I'll try to see what I can do about it. Where we have to shoot now has an entire wall of windows and behind me is a wall of light (6 kinoflos on stands) so we only have two directions to shoot without backlighting being an issue.

But my biggest disappointment of all ... just let the camera keep running after the guys shot their loads, without any words being spoken for at least a minute. ... let them keep stroking their own cocks and not rush them off the bed. If you do so I promise I will remain a loyal Broke Straight Boys customer for years to come (or cum).

Consider it done! you are right this is an easy one to do and I can't imagine us getting any flack for starting to shoot the ending this way. We have a lot of scenes "in the can" right now.. but when we do our next round of shoots.. I promise to make this wish my command!

In closing... Thanks for the very well voiced constructive criticism. We have constraints that very hard to manage compared to the Dave and Eddie or even Johnnie days due to the budget cuts and speed shooting required now.. but we only want to see scene get better and not diminish. We get far fewer complaints overall now that we used to (remember when it was a weekly complaint that the sound was too low or that the scenes were too scripted) and we really do watch metrics like crazy (such as ratings and comments under the scenes) for the sole purpose of fixing problems. You've brought up a great list in a way that allows us to really digest it and find solutions. Thanks for helping us be better! -Bryce

Thank you, Bithebi. I feel vindicated in my ranting. I don't think I could have written anything better and at the same time am jealous that you did. It's just nice to know that there are others who come here pleading with management to address this issue. You addressed all of the things in one post that I have touched upon over many posts. I especially would like to see scenes that are something more than "we showed up, we sucked, we fucked, we left, and we got paid". There's something to be said for watching these young guys start out green and develop into burgeoning porn stars. I really want to look forward to the new scenes like I used to. Passion is passion, whether it's in an amorous way or a hot fuck, but only if it's captured by the camera. Here's hoping that management will listen the way they did recently with the issue of Pierre Fitch.

Thank you for a great post filled with useful feedback and advice!

Thank you Bryce for your speedy response to this open letter and for your honest reply explaining some of the financial constraints that you are dealing with and your eagerness to do what you can to address the issues that Bithebi and Oldfart have brought up. It is very encouraging to read your reply!

Thanks Bryce. we're not bitching. We could have just left Broke Straight Boys and be done with it, but we like it here and want to stay. I'm sure you'll address these issues. It's just a matter of being aware, slowing down a little, and re-examining some the the issues mentioned. I'm just thankful that management listens to we guys who come here and kvetch about this stuff.

PS Maybe some blinds on the windows (of course raise them if the guys are going to be fucking against the wall). Just a thought. :001_tongue:

WOW, I am really grateful for the kind words expressed by my fellow Forumites; I guess I should do this more often. lol

Thank you Bryce for responding so quickly, thoroughly and thoughtfully. I really appreciate that you took my criticism/suggestions constructively and did not get defensive. I am especially encouraged by your response about changing the manner in which scenes are ended as that is really my main issue.

Regarding three points you raised. First, I am sympathetic to the time and financial constraints you raised but perhaps there is an inexpensive way to employ a second camera on occasion, such as my suggestion of using one of the models who has some ability to join you as a second cameraman for the sole purpose of catching the cum shots, on a less expensive camera. I hear you about viewers wanting facial expressions and big-time shooters; I just was suggesting that you do your best to capture as much of the shot as possible without seeming to be on the other side of the room at times.

Regarding blocked shots, I understand your response regarding the need to shoot as many scenes as you do, etc. I also recognize that the models are amateurs and cannot be expected to always be aware of where they are in relation to the camera. What I am suggesting is that when you see through your viewer (if that is the correct term) that a stray arm, leg, shoulder, side is blocking the "good stuff," that you make the adjustment as quickly as you can.

Regarding blemishes, etc., again, none of us are perfect and I agree that Ashton's ass should definitely be viewed, even with his bike-inflicted zits. My point was directed to some of the other models, who I won't mention by name, who are great guys and overall very sexy, but may have a particular issue on one part of their body. My suggestion is to be cognizant of that and shoot in a manner that captures more of those parts of their body that are not impacted. For example, if a model has a major acne breakout on the left side of his face and not the right, then shoot him so that the right side of his face is more prominent.

Finally, as I was not aware of the financial impact Broke Straight Boys faces when potential models are flown out to the studio and only then you discover the type of issues you described, why not utilize the wonderful cadre of loyal members to help you do some pre-screening of those prospective models, assuming you cannot obtain a good visual via Skype, FaceTime, etc. Perhaps it is a silly idea but consider setting up interviews in locations near the model's home with a member. Even if Broke Straight Boys paid a small stipend to the member and the potential model to meet, it would in all likelihood be less than the cost of flying the prospective model to the studio and incurring the expense of housing them until you decide not to use them. You would also save the cost of your and other staff's valuable time that is otherwise wasted.

My thoughts. Again, thanks to everyone for your kind words.

OMG bitheba! If that isn't opening up a Pandora's Box of lust, I don't know what is! :001_smile:

What a great thread. A huge thank you to the amazing response by Bryce. Broke Straight Boys has gone through many many changes and shooting locations. I know we had shot at my house which was great at the time but then I decided to move to another state. We all go through change and companies do as well. I feel 100% confident in my amazing crew and I'm so grateful for them. We are still working on getting better models but I feel like we are making progress. Our ratings and members area is the best it has ever been. We are really trying to bring you the best guys, scenes and everything we can for all of you. We really do appreciate your feedback. Thank you everyone for being member of Broke Straight Boys :)

Thanks Mark. It is cool that you and your team still talk with us from time to time, and I'm very excited about some of the new guys that have been on the site, so onward and upward!

Damn right. You could shoot at my house anytime. I just like the opportunity to show off my decor in my house with a hot guy getting fucked. The only pay I'd want would be to be able to watch the hot kid getting his ass fucked. In person. Oh Jesus!

Bithebi could not agree more about the abrupt endings of the scenes. A dick is really sensitive after a guy cums. I would also like to see the model enjoy that sensation.

It's good to hear from you, Mark. I don't know of any sites that offer this opportunity for feedback. Sometimes I (and other as well) may sound bitchy, but we really have the best interest in Broke Straight Boys at heart. I've enjoyed watching the models grow from inexperienced newcomers (pun intended) to more experienced performers. Of course some are going to rub viewers the wrong way, that's just human nature. But right now I think you guys have a great bunch of models, new as well as the more experienced, and there is so much you can do. I know how businesses can be beleaguered by deadlines and costs, but sometimes a little wake-up call can get you to see the rut everyone's gotten into and can inspire some new creativity, with fantastic results.

I admire your confidence in your cast and crew, and look forward to seeing the new things you can bring to the screen. As a friend of mine used to say, "Onward in search of excellence".

Ya..The Wam Bam thank you. After each scene. Jump up head to the showers. Not even a hand shake. Just takes
any emotion away from the scene. We did what we were paid to do let's go. Some good scenes. But they can leave you pretty empty. I mean they are supposed to be straight lol.. But even a thank you be nice. We are human not animals..

That's one minor complaint I can concur with also. When a scene ends abruptly right after the last cumshot, either by someone immediately speaking from off camera or one of the models bolting off of the bed to go do whatever...I feel we viewers get robbed of that moment of afterglow just as much as the models themselves. And I don't mean afterglow on the viewers' behalf as always a literal orgasmic happy ending. But after all the highs and cumshots of a good scene, many viewers would like several extra second to process everything they've just witnessed. A process of gently coming back down. We often want to see if the models express any more displays of affection like light sexual touching, additional stroking, eye contact, cuddling, words of endearment, etc.

If as soon as the last drop of cum lands, someone from off camera immediately yells something like, "So how was that, Joe?!!"...it breaks that post-orgasmic spell and immediately brings the viewer back to his or her computer monitor. It's not a gentle, feel-good ending. If the post-orgasmic moment can wind down naturally for several seconds and then questions are asked of the models, that's a totally different story. :) And if after several seconds one or both models want to get off the bed and towel themselves off or whatever while talking to themselves or anyone off camera...again that's fine and a different story. :)

As we've said, the same goes for models jumping off the bed immediately after the final cumshot. I know it will happen in certain situations and it's not like the staff can jump in and prevent it from happening if a model gets it in his head that he's getting off the bed Right Now. lol I would just hope that you would try to convince them to avoid that temptation (if they possibly can) until at least 10-15 seconds after the orgasmic end of the scene.

Reading your responses Bryce I really appreciate more than ever the time constraints and the pressures you guys are under to keep filming so many scenes in a short period of time. I'm sure that at the ends of scenes you and Sha are so relieved and happy to get see that final cumshot and know that you have another scene in the can. I'm sure there's a temptation when you see that final cumshot, to feel the relief, and want to wrap up the scene quickly. I get it that there are some days you get that rush of adrenaline and urgency to jump into the next project as soon as you see one successfully completed. I would just respectfully ask and suggest that after that final cumshot, that you and Sha both take a couple deep breaths, keep filming, and give the models and the scene an extra 10 seconds or even slightly more, to wind down naturally and gently.........before there's any talking or questions from off camera, with the exception of any conversation between the models themselves. Or of course before the models bolt out of the bed. lol :)

Yes thank you for the quick response. It's a real pleasure to be a member here. I'm sure I speak for many when I say we appreciate the honest and frank answers to our questions. It's really nice and refreshing. I know what they are saying about the zits and the like. I've certainly pulled down my share of pants to discover such problems. Of course I'm the type that will pop them!

Thank you Mark for all of your hard work. As I've said before it's great to be a member here. On a more humerus note, I thought up a solution to that second camera issue and cost of the camera man. I bet there are a few of us here that would fly in at our own expense to hold that extra camera!

I wonder if that camera can be held with only one hand. Hmmm... haha
