WARNING-THIS POST IS GOING TO BE LONG.
I have been writing this letter in my head for months and months and finally made it enough of a priority to take the time to sit down and actually write and post it.
First of all, a little background for context. I have been a Broke Straight Boys member since 2010, going back to BSB1 produced by David and Eddie. I have seen the evolution/changes of Broke Straight Boys since then, from D&E to Clay to Johnny (spelling?) to Sha/Bryce, including the changes of locations and others in the background (like Sabrina). While I sometimes jump on and read threads on the Forum, I do not do so often, and this is probably my fifth or sixth post since joining. My life is busy, hectic and complicated (as my screen name somewhat indicates).
Next, the positive. I have remained a Broke Straight Boys customer all of these years because I am generally very happy with the quality of the models. Unlike the very eloquent MikeYank, I do not need to be convinced that the models are straight (nor broke), but I do agree that they should not be overly effeminate or “Nellie.” For me the site could be called “Broke (or not) Straightish Boys,” so long as the models are young (18-23 is my “sweet spot”), good looking (recognizing that what constitutes good looking is subjective), have nice bodies, and are straight acting. I also hope that the vast majority of the models will be cut (personal preference related to my religion/ethnicity) as there are plenty of other sites featuring mostly uncut guys. What is most important to me regarding the models (other than what I mentioned above) is their passion and the chemistry between the models when performing with other models. The fact that most scenes now start with the models making out is extremely hot, especially when they have that chemistry (the recent Ashton-Tanner scene was unbelievably hot in my opinion).
Again, for context, my favorites from the old days include Shane Willis, Jason Matthews, Logan, Tyler Evans Colin, and Josh Stuart (not necessarily in that order nor is this list exhaustive). From the current crop, I can’t get enough of Ashton Taylor (and look forward to his next scenes) and I also include in my list of current favorites Oliver, Tanner, Dillon, Rowan, Chris Taylor, Tyler Griffin and Kaden Alexander/Kyle Porter. Since he falls somewhere in between chronologically, I list Ronan Kennedy separately, as he is also one of my all-time favorites.
Instead, my disappointment is directed to the videography and editing. Not the quality of the images, which is excellent, but the number of times the video is being shot using angles and/or distance that either blocks what I (and I believe most if not all of the viewers) want to see but often do not. Although I am not a professional videographer, it does not seem that difficult to me to make sure that when filming pornography the person behind the camera is capturing those parts of the models’ bodies that are of primary interest. Far too often we see parts of arms, legs, sides of the body, etc. instead of cocks, balls, nipples, etc. I understand that everyone has their preferences and I am not questioning shots that pan the models’ bodies so that someone who is into feet, legs, arms, chests, asses, etc. gets a chance to view those parts. Instead, I am talking about those shots where, for example, the bottom is on his back getting pounded and jerking on his cock, but instead of seeing his cock, it is blocked by the top’s right arm. Why does that happen? It seems very simple to slowly move a few inches to capture the action rather than to remain fixed on that blocking arm. This is but one of many examples where this happens.
And why does Bryce often back up (or pull the lens back) just as one of the guys (typically the bottom) is about to shoot? In my humble opinion, every model should be instructed to make sure he says when he is about to cum and Bryce should make sure he is shooting standing next to the bottom’s head so that the cum shot is directed towards the viewer. If for artistic or other reasons he wants to get a different perspective, then have a second camera available just for the cum shot so that both perspectives are captured and can be included in the editing. I can’t imagine that would add much cost to the production, especially if you let one of the models hold the second camera for a few extra bucks.
Additionally, I assume that Mark/Sha/Bryce and whomever else is involved in the process has an opportunity to view the models’ bodies before a shoot. Recognizing that we are all human (even beautiful young men) and have our flaws, it seems elementary to me that if a guy happens to have a boil/giant zit/bad acne outbreak, nasty wound, etc. on a particular part of his body that day, that Bryce could make it a point to shoot from an angle that does not accentuate that particular part of his body, but instead shows off those parts that are really beautiful and unblemished. Again, it seems pretty basic to me and I am curious why that does not happen.
Another is the number of times that it seems that Bryce does not seem to take into account the basic rule of photography that you should never shoot into light (or a white background), especially during a cum shot. Far too often we miss the spurting because he shot towards the window while the model was cumming.
But my biggest disappointment of all, which is very easily corrected, is the nature of the editing of the end of each scene, which overall has gotten worse during the last year (but I’ve been teased from time to time to think that perhaps a change for the better has taken place, only to be disappointed again when seeing that it was apparently only a one-time anomaly).
In the “old days,” the scene would typically begin with an interview that often lasted up to five minutes (David’s could drive one to suicide). Changing that so that the first interview with a new model takes place separately, and any other speaking before the guys get down to action being very short, was a wonderful change for the better. With that change, final, edited scenes, which used to be on average 20 minutes or longer, are now typically 15 minutes on average. Again, I do not have an issue with that change per se. What drives me absolutely nuts however, is how little time is typically allowed after the model(s) cum before the scene ends. Personally, I find not only the actual cumming hot, but what happens right afterwards. Watching a beautiful young man continue to stroke his cock after his orgasm, often involuntarily and without being aware that he is doing so, will often be what gets me off. However, when right after cumming one of the models says to the other words to the effect of “let’s hit the shower,” or “let’s eat,” and jumps off the bed 20 seconds after he shot his load, is not only unnatural, but denies those of us who enjoy the post-orgasm stroking (which, as demonstrated by the recent Ashton-Tanner scene sometimes involves one of the guys playing with the other’s cock, making out, eating the cum off of the other guy’s cock and/or stomach/ chest, etc.). While a viewer who may not be into such things (which I can’t imagine but I guess it’s possible) has the option of turning off the scene at that point, if it’s not included then those of us who want to see that are denied the opportunity. While the camera was typically allowed to run for a while post-orgasm during solos (because Sha would typically ask the model how it was) even the recent solo by Landon Wells had him announcing that he is a “Broke Straight Boys” fairly soon after cumming.
I sometimes think that Sha is not comfortable at the end of a scene unless someone (usually him) is speaking. But if you go back and review the scenes Johnny shot, he would often just let the camera keep running after the guys shot their loads, without any words being spoken for at least a minute. There they lay, stroking their cocks, or making out, or doing a little frottage (again, thank you Ashton for a little frottage action at the end of your scene).
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Management, keep the camera running for at least a solid minute, if not 1-2 minutes after the guys cum, and let them do whatever comes naturally. Even Tanner, who in the beginning could not stand the fact that he had cum on his body and would typically jump up to grab a towel and wipe it off of him (and often his scene partner’s body) seems more comfortable as demonstrated by his scene with Ashton. I am not suggesting that a guy who is not into it do so, but many of the models have demonstrated in the past that they enjoy licking cum off of the other guy, making out at the end of the scene, stroking the other guy’s cock, etc. And, at a minimum, let them keep stroking their own cocks and not rush them off the bed. If you do so I promise I will remain a loyal Broke Straight Boys customer for years to come (or cum).
Thank you for allowing me to share my thoughts with you and our fellow members.
