Age for alcohol consumption in US is 21 given that any state that wants to receive fderal higway funds must have this law on the books. A person can enter the US Armed Forces at the age of 16 if he/she is an emancipated minor or has the consent of her/his legal guardian. A person can get a legal driver's license in most state in the form of a hardship license at the age of 14.

With that being said what do you think ought to be the age at which a person can consent to be in porn or agree to sex? In other nations the age varies and can differ for homsexual sex and heterosexual sex.

We, in KRU, think the age of consent, the drinking age and the driving age ought to be 16. We also think that no one should be forced to go to school after 16 but if a person refuses to go and earn her/his diploma he/she forfeits any right to apply for any type of public assistance and the right to vote and must pay a fine every month called the 'intentionally stupid tax' until he/she earns that diploma.

I like your idea of the "intentionally stupid tax!" I don't agree on the age of 16 for driving or drinking. Even after the last 50 years, the majority of auto accidents do happen to those under 20. So, I think maybe people should not be allowed to drive, except for hardships, until 21.

No one should drive until they are 18 and passed the examination or driving test as we call it over here. Responsible drinking comes from the parents and again 18 is a good age. Sex both hetero and gay is being practised by younger and younger people each year.

Don't get me wrong Jon. I think sex between two consenting 16 year olds is fine, or two 14 year olds. God knows I was doing it at that age! I was doing it with slightly younger, with my age, and slightly older. But then, I knew what I was doing, or so I thought. Like many kids that young age, I too knew how to do it, but I didn't know enough to measure the consequences, thus, I became a father at 15! That was not fun!

If you became a father at 15 you clearly didn't know what you were doing unless you really wanted a kid. Gay sex is legalised at 16 over here but to go into porn u have to be 18. Hetero sex is also 16 and if an elder beds a girl younger then you can be jailed.

At the stoplight down by the sea, just before I turn east to go to work, there's always this same kid with a piece of cardboard with a text on it, asking for help, or work. After nearly a year of giving him something every time the light was red, I think of him as "my beggar". Yesterday he and I finally got it together to put the text on his little sign to the test, and I got him in the car and we did the 45 minute commute together. He's from Rumania, is 24, really cute except for some badly stained front teeth, had had a haircut in honor of his job test and told me a little about himself on the way out to the job site.

He's married, and has two kids. I met the family when I dropped him back in the evening. He said he'd been "married" for 11 years. Do the math. They obviously picked each other out at age 11 or 12 and have been happy ever since. Their son was born three years later, when they were 15, and the girl is now 5. All of them adorable. To have seen him work like a trojan all day, switching his cute butt around the site, digging in and organizing and tidying areas of the lot and only stopping for a smoke when I'd slow him down so I could plan how I wanted to take the next step: a real life Broke Straight Boys All this to say that hearing his story and seeing him in context with his little brood, made me re-think the whole age of consent thing. I just now saw this thread, and googled "age of consent" and discovered that in the very civilized, if very broke, country I've called home for decades, the age of consent for both hetero- and homosexual activity, is 13.

I must admit this seems a one off. As you very well know there have been and still are a lot of unwanted pregnancies due to underage sex. But I would think its a matter of sex education than actual law, apart from if its sex without consent of any of the partners - which is classified as rape.

Like drink driving and other laws, they have to draw the line. Spain has drawn it at 13, I think some European countries are 14 and UK is 16.

In America, it can actually differ from state to state. It's 17 in Texas.
