First of all oldfart63, I have to say that I DO enjoy reading your posts! They are honest and often objective perspectives based on the observations you have about a scene and it's content. But....what I have to wonder....even from my own observation of scenes and content is; have I grown to expect TOO much?
Now, let me qualify my comment by saying, I've watched A LOT of porn. I've even collected scenes from many sites that I thought I really had found the perfect group of models, the camera work was great etc...etc....but, collectively it's porn. Some studio's produce what could be considered by me, "Their signature" style.
If I were to compare the works, I realize that most porn is a combination of different things. From back ground, to focus on particular parts of the action while filming, it's all a representation of REAL sex. There are sites and scenes that allow you the real deal but, guess what? There is no moving camera, or the camera work is stationary, or the video quality sucks because it's homemade and it goes on and on!
Not to say that my expectations should change but, I do take a lot of things into consideration when I watch porn, and maybe there are times when BSB scenes aren't what I'd hoped they would be (for a myriad of reasons) the fact that they are keeping with the three new scenes a week, introducing new models or new faces with some regularity, there is always something New to look forward to? I use the term "Studio Porn" quite often. Studio porn, unlike Cam shows or actual homemade videos, is always going to be lacking in something, acting, models, production? I don't know if that makes any sense but, it's designed for entertainment but sometimes WE ALL hope for that bit of realism?
I'm glad you enjoy my posts, Betu. Trying to be objective is just my way of saying that this is my
opinion, and
why I feel this way. Feel free to agree or disagree, I won't be offended. Your question, "...have I grown to expect TOO much?", puts an interesting spin on commenting on this forum, so I'll try to explain that. All I really expect from porn is fantasy, really. Nothing more than the same fantasy I'd expect from reading a short story, except that it involves sexuality.
When I started watching
Broke Straight Boys many years ago (long before I joined the forum), I guess their reality
was my fantasy. In gay porn, you always had (and still do have) models "acting straight". I just watched a scene where James Madison (formerly Tommy on
Broke Straight Boys) and his co-star were watching a porn flick together and trying to rub up a stiffy, you know, like straight guys do all the time. Then James says, " I don't know what we're gonna do. There aren't any chicks around", an so the fantasy begins. But
Broke Straight Boys was different. There was no story line. Or the story line was that here were two or more straight boys being paid to take off their clothes and masturbating to straight porn. A little more money, and they would, sometimes reluctantly, masutrbate each other. Of course, more and more money meant eventually crossing that line into gay sex. How many were really straight? How many were really gay? How many were really curious to find out? It didn't matter because they could pull it off. Their reality was the "straight guy" fantasy you couldn't get in gay porn.
It just isn't that way anymore. Though we're experiencing an expected backlash today, the strides made in LGBT rights and acceptance has been an improvement for the community, but at the same time it hasn't been kind to the gay-for-pay genre. Social media is a particular buzz-kill to the gay-for-pay fantasy. You can introduce the cutest little inexperienced wannabe porn star, and without barely even trying, find out that he's a voracious cumslut who brags about getting fucked by anyone within 20 feet from him who's got a dick. While some guys might get really turned on by that, it doesn't overall help the genre. I'd say that Twitter has done for the gay-for-pay business what the Hindenburg did for the dirigible business, which is send it down in flames. "Oh, the humanity!" And this shouldn't come as any surprise, since it's been discussed to death on this forum!
I'm rambling, so I'll try to sum it up. I've watched a lot of porn, too. That's how I figured out what it is that I enjoy. And I enjoy a fantasy. I like a fantasy where two guys fuck, and while they fuck they look like they're both on a trip of sexual bliss. I can get this fantasy from a scene with inexperienced actors. Tanner,
Gage Owens,
Cage Kafig,
Dakota Ford, and
Zeno Kostas are some of the guys who can do this.
Ronan Kennedy can do it, too, as long as he likes his partner. He could work on that a bit. But I really don't care if they are gay, straight or bi, if they're good at creating that fantasy. (This would be a good place to add that I really like Brandon, but I think he makes a better bottom than a top. He just seems to be more believably enjoying bottoming than topping. From what I've heard and little I've seen from his work at the bigger studios, they prefer him in that role, too.) The camerawork and editing can only enhance or detract from what the models (actors) are doing. I also prefer the scenes here where they end with the two actors kissing or lying beside each other. That maintains the fantasy for me. Friendly chatter and high fives while they head to the showers may have worked when you were paying boys to push their limits, but it just doesn't work for me anymore.
Maybe I just need to take a break from
Broke Straight Boys I enjoy the three new scenes a week and the new talent, but even the "new" talent is turning out not to be that new. If I liked just watching guys masturbating or fucking, then webcams would be a great alternative. For me, though, they offer all the allure of a "How To.." book on breathing. It seems that
Broke Straight Boys is kind of in a middle ground. Sometimes they turn out a decent fantasy scene, but they still do it while trying to work in a gay-for-pay genre that just barely exists anymore. I hate to say it, but I think it's true.
