Hey, Louis -
Loved your post, and really relate to it. I grew up on the farm, feeding (and cleaning up after) 800 pigs a day - so I am used to hard work, and respect the people who do it. I loved the books and went to school (M.A. in political philosophy) and now, I sit typing at a computer all day long. . . .
Over many years, I tried dating lawyers, accountants, and social workers. All of them were attracted by my mind (and flawless prose. . . LOL!!!) but, in the end, there was always a problem: usually that I wasn't rich enough, or good-looking enough, for them. They pretty much all 'traded up', from me.
Almost four years ago (on November 2, 2010): I met my boyfriend, Mr. K. He's incredibly beautiful, and incredibly smart, but. . . he had a bit of a hard-knock life. He should have been able to go to university, but hardly was able to finish high-school. (Absent Dad, alcoholic Mom, foster homes.)
Mr. K. works as a construction-worker, now. What impresses me so much, about him, is that he NEVER let any of the troubles in his past get him down. . . EVER. He has carried on, with a smile. He loves to work; and he works HARD. He is brimming with affection and
joie de vivre. And he has held me up and encouraged me, and been loyal and loving to me, even when I was having some very difficult health problems.
One of my friends asked me, a couple of years ago, "A., with this rarefied education you have - how could you possibly have
anything in common with this guy???" I said, "LOOK. I have a library stocked with, probably, 5,000 books. I've read them all, from Plato, to Emile Cioran. (The famous Romanian pessimist-philosopher, and aphorist.) If I NEED ANOTHER BOOK, there is always the Book-of-the-Month Club,
but. . . .
You
cannot BUY someone who has a good heart, and who truly loves and cares about you, at the Book-of-the-Month Club, or anywhere. What matters most, in life (as Jung would tell you) is compatibility of the
psyche. After 48 years, I am grateful to find another human being who has the same
emotions as mine. . . and I am happy to work, from there."
As it happens, Louis, my b/f Mr. K. is super-smart. I can talk to him about Plato, Aristotle, or Schopenhauer, if I want to. On the other hand, if I need a hug, he is always there to give me one. So, I love him.
And Mr. K. is the cutest and hottest guy I've ever met, too! Beth, I used to think Evandro Soldati was the cutest man in the world. . . .

Well, Mr. K. is a whole lot cuter, and hotter. I love him a LOT, and. . .
he is my perfect fantasy boy. ALWAYS.
