Hey, Stowe (XOXOXOXOXO) ~

Perhaps Jon or Dan or others may have something to say about this, but. . . I think that, if Her Majesty has managed to stay married to Prince Philip for lo, these 67 years, she deserves to be the temporal head of the Church of England - because: she's a SAINT - LOL!!!

Prince Philip is a PARADOX. By all accounts he's rude, crude, and frequently makes insufferable racist and sexist comments, when he's out and about. (And he wasn't very damned nice to his own children, either, in a lot of ways, treating them in a tough and quasi-military fashion, and sending poor "Chairlie" to Gordonstoun, which in Scotland (to my eternal shame) is called a "school" - whereas in most civilized nations it would have been called (at least in that day and age) an "internment camp.")

Just for your amusement, here are some of The Duke of Edinburgh's most incandescently rude and awful comments ;-) *And these are deliciously AWFUL;-)* http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/prince-philip-quotes-relive-90-133848

At the same time - despite his rough and unvarnished nature, it is reported that (unlike his sons) Prince Philip is thoughtful and kind to the people who work for him. And they think rather highly of him. In 2011, in a break with Royal Protocol (apparently - though why it should be a "break" is imponderable to ME, who is both a Scot AND a colonial) he attended his chauffeur's funeral personally, rather than sending a representative. (Jon is going to kill me for quoting the "Mail" here, but I swear, I've read this elsewhere: and it is excerpted from another publication - I just lack the time to go hunting sources, all night.): http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/a...ok-reveals-intriguing-secrets-royal-life.html

Indeed, Prince Philip is a very quirky and ill-behaved and SOMETIMES lovable old character. Her Majesty (if sometimes a little cool, for North American tastes) supplies the dignity, grace, and stoicism; Philip supplies the COMEDY.

God bless them both, upon the occasion of their anniversary. I prefer them, even as a mismatched and rather eccentric team, to having Richard Nixon, or George W. Bush, as my head of state ;-)))

"A" ;-))))

P.S. Monarchy is such fun. No impeachments, ever - we just behead a Stuart, once in awhile :-) Or marry one off to an American, so he can abdicate ;-)

I watched part 5 of BBCs Life Story this evening and was touched about the affection shown when a pair of Albatros were reunited. They are partners for life, just like the Queen and Prince Phillip.

Regarding his behaviours: Well it just shows he is human. Rather him doing that then beheading archbishops in the tower lol

Very good points, all 'round, Jon.

Though I DO know a couple of bishops (if not archbishops) whom I wouldn't mind seeing confined to the Tower. (Though not ACTUALLY beheaded, you see.) *My Confessor could tell you the ones - just ask HIM, if you are in doubt ;-)*

It might not surprise you - but might amuse you - to know that, a couple of years ago, when my Confessor, the Reverend Canon ______, held a Lenten course treating the glorious (and not-so-glorious) history of the C. of E., I was the sole communicant to stick up for His Eminence, the Right Honourable, Cardinal Thomas Wolsey. (I have an unique sympathy for people of spiritual inclinations, who from time to time must needs dirty their white-gloved hands, in the filth of POLITICS. *SIGH*)

"A" XOXOXOXOXO

P.S., But, Jon - as I always tell all my friends, both ecclesial and political - I ONCE was involved in politics, but now, I am pure as the driven snow. (Though, as Mae West famously said, occasionally. . . I drift. . . a little ;-)

LOL, love that last quote. Talking about politicians - well there a few I could think of that should have gone to the Tower - Blair for one.

Jon, here are some of the best ones.
