At sundown on this date, Sept.18, Jews worldwide will celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the beginning of the year 5781 of the Jewish calendar. While it is a happy occasion, it also begins a ten day period of reflection culminating in the observance of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. Tonight at sundown, the Shofar or Ram's Horn is blown to begin this period and it is blown again at the end of Yom Kippur to denote the conclusion of this period. Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur are the "High Holydays" for our Jewish brothers and sisters.

Here at Broke Straight Boys, I am aware of only one Jewish brother, my dear friend and Mayor of the Forum, Mikeyank. I'm sure there are other Jewish forumites and site members. So I hope you all will join me in wishing mikey and all our fellow Broke Straight Boys members who are Jewish a "Shanah Tovah" - a good year.

Thank you so much Stowe. I know that juano and David are also Jewish, and so to them and any other Jewish members here,

RBG died on Rosh Hashanah which is supposed to be meaningful in the Jewish tradition. It makes her a very specific Tradik, a very righteous person. From what I can tell it’s similar to what we would call a Saint. She was very important to all of us. As John Dunne said, Never send to know for whom the bell tolls it told for thee. This has never been more true today. We have all lost a great presence we owe her a great deal and it’s going to be a mess watching how the Republican hypocrites play this one. When I think they have stooped to all time lows they manage to step it up.

Great and oh so true post! It's such a shame that her death could not have waited for some future Rosh Hashanah when President Biden could have chosen her successor.

I share these sentiments very much so and on this thread.. But you guys better watch out. The last time politics were discussed on a regular thread and a FEW people didn't like that, the site dictator set forth a dictum that politics only be discussed on one designated thread. I'd hate to see you guys remonstrated by him for mentioning anything remotely political on a thread other than the designated one.

I share all the sentiments of you guys above. Happy Rosh Hashana to all those in here of the faith. :)

I will use this thread started by my friend Stowe, in 2020 to wish all who celebrate a very Happy New Year.

I am not an observant Jew but I am proud of my heritage and I will be with my extended family tonight to celebrate the holiday. I wish anyone who observes or celebrates a very sweet New Year!

I respect those who follow the tenants of any religion. I was born a Jew but no longer believe in a God who could allow all the human inflicted atrocities that have been inflicted on their brethren. However I try to follow the Golden Rule do on to others what you want others do onto you ( forgive my wording).

Happy New Year to all of my Jewish friends both on and off the Forum!

Mike, I hope you had a great time last night & I was truly sorry we had that argument. Your friendship means a great deal to me so I hope it does not affect it.
