Real Sports - Athletes, Teams & Men that we follow and admire.

As my deceased parents were both born in 1925, they and I grew up with and remembered and admired this star from afar (not so much his team though!). Mickey's first few years though he was booed by Yankee fans fearing him displacing their beloved center fielder Joe Dimaggio, but after Joe's retirement, they grew to love him. Mickey as a rookie was one of the fastest players in baseball, but unfortunately a trip and fall over a springler head in center field of the old Yankee Stadium took that speed aspect of his game away from him. Later on the Yankees were upset with Billy Martin taking Mickey and other players to enjoy the New York nightlife and inbibe late into the night, which rumor has it caused the Yankees to trade Martin to Kansas City! Late in his career, the Yankees adopted a policy of giving Mick a game off whenever a day game followed a night game with allegedly hangovers from the night before a consideration. One day game, late in a tie game, he was sent up to pinch hit and Mick hit a 500 foot game winning homer, and his first words to his teammates upon his return to the dugout were: "Those fans don't realize how hard that was. I saw two baseballs and swung in between"! Now that's a story showing just how talented he was! RIP Mick.
You and Mike are good Historians on New York baseball. Thanks for sharing your interest.

Game 1 showed me that the Dodgers week off slowed their momentum, Blake Snell had terrible control issues and the bullpen continues struggles with their control issues, We'll see how game 2 goes tonight. Go Dodgers!

It’s only one game, but Toronto has been on a tear. Dodgers really need a win tonight as I found this statistical tidbit:

Teams going down 2-0 on the road to start a best-of-seven postseason series have come back to win that series just 11 times in 57 tries (19.3%). So the Dodgers certainly don’t want to go down that road.

Congratulations to TouchKrazy, Rockstar and any other Dodgers fans on the forum. I turned on tonight’s game with the score tied 1-1 in the sixth and saw the Dodgers hit two home runs and eventually win easily 5-1. Yamamoto pitched a complete game for the victory, a rarity today. Now on to Los Angeles for the next three games. Big win for the Dodgers.

Great game last night as the Dodgers defeated the Blue Jays to tie the series at 3-3 bringing up a decisive Game 7 tonight. This has been a great world series. Here’s to a great Game 7 tonight!

I have to agree with you Mike this has been a great World Series! Game 6 last night was an exciting game with some good defensive plays such as the Dodgers double play to end the game . Can't wait for game seven tonight, being a Dodger fan I will be rooting for the Dodger blue and will be sad if we do not win.

If the Dodgers win it, wouldn't it be something if the turning point of the World Series was that game ending double play, where the left fielder made that good running catch and then caught the second base runner too far off second base!

Just got home from a Dodgers party for game 7, OMG not because the Dodgers won but game 7 was just as exciting as game 6 as it went 11 innings with a walk off HR from Will Smith. This has been one of the best World Series I have watched in a long time, no shame to Toronto they played their asses off, the pitching was superb on both sides. Glad we get an extra hour of sleep tonight as I'm going to need it. I'll say good night as I'm rambling and I did not drive home caught a ride with one of my friends.

Congratulations TK. I watched the whole game and it was a thrilling finish and indeed congratulations to both teams. And congratulations on the Dodgers winning consecutive World Series for the first time since the Yanks won three straight between 1998-2000. Great team worthy of the title. :thumbup1:

Dante Bichette (for @ 15 years I believe) was an All Star slugger for the Colorado Rockies, whe never came close to making the World Series, and this year was able to watch his son Bo Bichette not only make the Series but nearly slug his Blue Jays to the title. So congrats to the Dodgers, and give a thought to some of baseball's greatest star players (Hall of Famer Ernie Banks also comes to mind), who never received to opportunity to play in the World Series at all.
