Have never really checked out all the little links we have on this forum. So was curious about the "quick links" above. They have a link to see whose online, was curious to see how many people were online at this time. What I found was not only can you view whose online, but what their doing online IE: viewing a particuliar thread and in my case It said I was looking to see whose online. Is this necessary? I don't have anything to hide as this is a public forum, but if I'm a viewing a certain thread it should be nobody's business. Am I right?

so many things to worry about BUT this ISN'T ONE OF THEM,
I reALLY DON'T care if anyone on here sees where I am on. Wouldn't want it made public through a non member link

the only people who can see where i am are people who have logged on to the forum.
if i just come to the forum and read any thread and don't log on, then nobody knows where i am.
only forum member who have signed in get that information.

I am for as much privacy as possible on all of the sites, but it appears that is only a dream. I don't like it when perfect strangers can follow my every move. Might have something to do with BIG BROTHER.

I got a virus one time and actually bought another tower instead of trying to get the old one debugged or whatever they call it. I don't go to sites that I'm not supposed to be on, but I just hate the idea of somebody checking into my business. It's sort of like somebody breaking into my home and going through my personal things.

So I do agree with you, Peter. I would also like to stop the section that lists the last 15 people visiting my profile page. I don't mind seeing who visited my page....just don't really want to be identified as visiting somebody elses page. Sneaky little devil, I guess. lol

Sharing with you all

It's great that this form shows, the latest thread I visited...

if any forumite who has signed in wants to know that at this moment i am reading a thread about privacy, i have no problem with that.
of course, if just anyone could wander into the forum and follow me, i would strongly object!
that is not what can happen here.
i just had an intense discussion with my friend on this subject.
hulu suggest i use my facebook account, so that i can let everybody know what i am watching. no way! that is a privacy matter for me. what i choose to watch on hulu is my business!
this is not the same issue.

It amazes me that so many sites ask to be hooked into a Facebook account. And so many people do this! Then they'll turn around and complain about privacy after they willingly gave it up.

I held out for a VERY long time on getting a Facebook account. I gave in because I wanted a way to easily communicate with my nieces and nephews. Although I appreciate being able to do that, I sincerely regret having the Facebook account.

So did I, and after a long thought, I created a false Facebook alias. So I can use Facebook, but it's not straight from my heart.

Less so with this forum. rrhill means: Robert van den Heuvel, and I live in Amsterdam East. All my friend and foes are welcome to see which threads I visit. This Broke Straight Boys forum feels like my virtual home, something I do not feel with Facebook...

But all you guys and galls here... feel free to follow me!

I hope y'all don't mind. Sometimes I accidentally click on the name instead of the arrow next to the name when I'm reading through the most recent updates to the forum. Sometimes I accidentally do that 3 or 4 times in a row. It's hard for me, because I so seldom lug out my laptop. So my little arrows are tiny and my finger tip isn't always accurate. I really don't look to see what people are viewing, who is on and who isn't. I rarely visit member profile pages, either. I'm just not that girl. But I bet it looks like it to all if you. Youngandconfused had an accidental visit from me just a moment ago. His name is so long there is no arrow, but I try every time anyway, just to see what he had to say.

Damn, LoveLumps. I hate to hear your explanation. I thought you had a thing for me. LOL

Peter, take out a second membership and call yourself Mr X. We will then never know it's you.

You can make your forum whereabouts and visits secret, by checking boxes in your profile set up area. I can't tell you exactly how, because I haven't done that, but many people do.

I visit people's profiles occasionally. I leave messages for them, happy birthdays, send them PM's, and some people make albums that they want people to be able to see. But, like LL said, sometimes it is hard to hit that little arrow, especially on your phone screen.....
