This evening saw the arrival of the Olympic flame in the UK. Princess Anne, Boris Johnson (the mayor of London), Sebastian Coe, and David Beckham flew out to Athens to pick up the flame in a special ceremony.

There are now 70 days before the start of the 2012 Olympics and the flame will travel all over the UK by specially selected people of all ages before arriving in London for the Opening ceremony.

The UK is the place to be this summer, with all the pomp and ceremony for the Queens 60th Anniversary on the throne in 2 weeks time, followed by the lead up to the Olympics.

Any of you guys and gals coming over ?

Jon,
Send tickets. I will also need a place to stay. I don't eat much.

Was watching the news this evening. You guys put on a nice parade.

Thanks Tim. Yes one thing the Brits are good at his pomp and ceremony. The Royal Family are so close to the Armed Forces and the Queen's speech certainly paid immense tribute to them.

I am anxiously awaiting the start of the games! I love swimming, and diving. Oh, and Gymnastics.

The flame arrives in my town today at around 2pm. The weather, which was like 28c last weekend has now dropped to around 10c and its wet and cold. So not even the Olympics and the Queens Jubilee weekend can control our unpredictable weather. I do feel sorry for the thousands of organisers of street parties though but apparently they've still gone ahead despite the weather. Good old British bulldog attitude eh.

I was even more stupid than the previous 2 posts. The flame arrives at my town Bishop Auckland at 1430 today. It's now 1400 so I'm going to skidaddle down to get my place.

Not sure if you guys can get this link - http://www.bbc.co.uk/torchrelay

Thanks for the link Jon, I did get to watch it live through that link. Unfortunately, they had already passes Bishop Auckland. Was hoping to catch sight of you out there sporting a Broke Straight Boys T-shirt!

Dude, virtually everyone in the town came out to watch the olympic torch. Each side of the street was like 10 deep and it was quite emotional as the first boy to carry the flame was one that had lost his legs in an accident. The 2nd boy had also lost one leg due to some form of cancer and was on sticks.

Although I sympathise with the paraplegics, I do think there should be a good mix of able and disable bodied people. Otherwise it just makes people depressed.

Missy Franklin qualified for the Olympics today in swimming. She's from my suburb of Denver. Her support team is all from USA Swimming located in Colorado Springs. Many of those members of her team all own homes in the area of Colorado Springs that has been evacuated and may come back from Omaha, NE to find their homes lost to the flames. Talk about an Olympic torch!

So many thousands of acres of Colorado are burning. And Mitt Romney actually tweeted that He thinks Colorado Springs should feel stupid now that they laid off hundreds of fire fighters for lower taxes. Um... Colorado has been hit by difficult economic times just like everyone else. Fire fighters, police officers, teachers and countless other employees have lost their jobs in Colorado over the last 5 years. A presidential candidate who would mock our state for making cuts, in lieu of calling for support to our state, is a total idiot. who does that?!?! We may be hurting, and we might be a largely republican state, but I can honestly say that any presidential candidate that mocks our tragic circumstances is not going to go far.
