Ohio.

Tampa24 - Back in 1982 I spent 4 months in Bowling Green and I know what you mean about homophobia. It was rampant. I got a lecture once because I was wearing a pink Polo shirt. I was told not to do that because people might think I was a "fag." Geez. I hope it has changed.

That's the kind of crap I had to put up with as a kid and teenager. It was like you weren't allowed to have a bedspread that wasn't black, brown or navy blue. If you dared to have any brighter, more cheerful colors anywhere in your room then people might "get the wrong idea." Can't have that, can we? It was stifling.

Hey, this is Gary. I lived in Logan, Hocking County, from 1994-2001 and even the thought of being openly gay in that part of the state was totally taboo. What a big difference in attitude between the southern and northern part of Ohio.

I'm not so sure about that. I was from northern Ohio close to the Michigan border and the homophobia there was awful.

Mitch. Not to start an argument, but don't you see a parallel between a bigot's homophobia using the "f" word, and a racist's similar views and using the "n" word? We are all human beings, God's children, and we come in all colors and sizes and races and religions and degrees of our sexuality. Why can't people just "live and let live"?
