New BSB vs Old BSB

Hey PascalBrutal,

Thanks for taking the time to give us the top sites and their rankings!!! A true service to all the members here.

I've stayed with Broke Straight Boys for several years because they manage to tease their membership with hope for a great scene. We may have to put up with several mediocre ones in a row, but then finally one breaks through and the forum lights up!

Broke Straight Boys also offers more bonus sites than any other site I've ever visited. Watching the fumbling around that often characterizes Broke Straight Boys scenes is fun and occasionally hot, but the forum makes the site. If I want to see the hardcore stuff, the bonus sites offer a wide range of scenes. I've belonged to just a couple other sites, but only for a few months at a time because they tend to grind out the same type of scenes with the same type of models, and once you've gone through their catologue, there's nothing to do but wait for the next scene. No forums!!!

Broke Straight Boys is a one stop shop for me for gay porn!!!

Well put neighbor!! I agree completely about what Broke Straight Boys has to offer.

I think I read some of your comments that were berating other posters for criticizing a certain scene's direction and wondering if they really shouldn't have better things to do... You sure took a long time analyzing those past scenes and writing about them, didn't you... ;p

However rude he may have seemed in some of his postings, I think that Miami might have had a point there. This is the ranking of gay porn sites that was done back in May by porn blog Straight Up Gay Porn (see the whole top 40 there):

The Top 10 Most Visited Gay Porn Studios In The World:
1. Mendotcom—16,035
2. SeanCodydotcom—22,616
3. RandyBluedotcom—40,569
4. HelixStudiosdotnet—47,645
5. BelAmiOnlinedotcom—52,657
6. BrokeStraightBoysdotcom—56,756
7. CorbinFisherdotcom—68,145
8. MaverickMendotcom—71,863
9. CockyBoysdotcom—72,368
10. RagingStalliondotcom—88,813

The number behind the sites' name is the Alexa ranking, meaning for instance that Mendotcom is the 16,035th most visited site in the world.

So Broke Straight Boys are doing pretty good for themselves, but they are not in the top 5. The Broke Straight Boys 'look' might be popular on this forum but it does not reflect an absolute in gay porn consumers' tastes.

Thank you very much, Pascal, for providing this listing! Very interesting, and congratulations to Broke Straight Boys for ranking # 6 out of literally hundreds of sites worldwide, quite an accomplishment. A few more like Ronan Kennedy (and Damien, Paul, Ayden, Romeo, Tate) and Broke Straight Boys can probably move on up, lol. A self-indulgent comment now: my three favorites are in the top seven (Broke Straight Boys included, naturally).

So I was checking out some of the older videos tonight and I realized a few things. One they looked awful and drab and made the models look like extras from Twilight. Now were getting true HD. Next, the talking sometimes went as long as 6-7 minutes when recently we've been getting 1-2 minutes of set up which is enough to say your name and get on with the action. most of the models never came back after 2-3 scenes and there were no regulars to break in the newbies with the exception of a select few. The camera sometimes would cut abruptly to an awkward angle or cut as if time has passed for them to figure out what they wanted to do next. The conversations were really bad and the questions had nothing to do with the scene or what they were about to do. The camera action wasnt that good and you often were looking at shadows instead of a hard cock or abrupt cuts that were filler. Now we are getting industry standard editing and close ups as opposed to the one or two take scene that left alot to the imagination. The guys now are overall better looking and so is the quality. They are no cockyboys or Men.com but I just hope they keep it up. In no time they could compete. Looking back now, the good old days werent that goodView attachment 12966View attachment 12967.

You actually had me rethinking my opinion until the Bible verse.

Now I will speak for me. I liked classic Broke Straight Boys I didn't see the need to clean house and reboot the site. But, what's done is done. This new site is a nice site, but you still have the same guys over and over, just like classic Broke Straight Boys People come, do a few shoots, then disappear here, just like classic Broke Straight Boys There are interviews before scenes, just like classic Broke Straight Boys The models usually use the same positions over and over just like classic Broke Straight Boys Seems to me Blue Media could have kept the original modes, and just brought the production up to industry standards. Now, many of you have more insight into what happened when the change over occurred, and if you would like to share, I would like to know. Over the years I been on and off this site, I never joined the message board or even read it.

But I want to say this before I hit post: Someone is bound to say, "This has been discuss so many times, etc. etc. etc. etc." My suggestion, which I think is a good one for those who feel like typing that about my post: Just pretend it doesn't exist. That way, you can use your time wisely. I personally, don't believe in wasting time.

Those of you who would like to give me information about the reboot, I would appreciate it! :newhere:

I wonder what happened to Miami? Here.. Caused a uproar and is gone. Like that Jeffster? Same thing..Strange..
Just wondering? Any one know?

Thanks for offering your perspective Vulcan as someone who has been checking out Broke Straight Boys on and off over the years, so you have a better perspective than I do as I've always been here. And don't worry about what may or may not have been discussed before as you weren't here then and I do want to hear your perspectives and opinions.

The basic facts are that D&E hired and housed the models in the Fort Lauderdale Florida area, as well as shot the scenes during BSB1. The company was always owned by Mark and BluMedia, but beginning in April 2011 we began to see scenes that were totally under the auspices of Mark. He eventually consolidated his operations and moved the filming of both College Dudes and Broke Straight Boys to Denver Colorado.

So other than the technical advances in cameras and all, it has always been the same ownership, just different people responsible for the content on the site now.

Do you know why it was necessary, (or maybe not,) to leave Diesal, Shane, The kissing cousins, Jacob, and so many other great models behind when the sit was rebooted and relocated? We have models flying from all over the country, couldn't the most popular ones have stayed? Now, it was clear that some of them were getting older, and this is Broke Straight Boys after all lol. But the ones that had just started in the last year or so before the reboot, were young, yet they got left behind too. Why, I often wonder.

With that said, since I've rejoined, I have really, really enjoyed the new features...Behind the scenes episodes, The model's interviews (of which some have been really touching; some of these boys have been through hades.) I LOVE Ms. Sabrina (she don't take no mess!) Keeping it Real, the episodes where we actually see the guys picked up at the airport. I love anything with that baby mask in it, and so much more. So, it is a better site for sure, but some of the models that were left behind, I think, should have been kept.

I think I mentioned this in another post, the fact that you all now let us get to "know" the models, in a manner of speaking, really makes this site stand out. They aren't just pieces of meat that are thrown on a bed, have sex, and then the camera goes off--those kind of porn sites are so commonplace.

The boys are also treated so well from the time they arrive, to the time they leave. I think that makes for the best behind the scenes episodes, seeing the boys having a great time. So this isn't just porn for me, Broke Straight Boys is also great entertainment.

Perhaps we can have some of the classic Broke Straight Boys's drop in from time to time? I think that would be a great new feature. Maybe Mark can think about it?

Thanks so much,

-Vulcan

Well the time the models you mentioned were on Broke Straight Boys, they were filmed by David in Fla so I think they were employed by him then the finished product sent and sold to Broke Straight Boys When Mark to decided to take control of the filming in Denver without David, most of these models were left in the dust. Either for personal reasons, loyalty to David or Broke Straight Boys wanted to start fresh. Just my opinion though!!

Great post Vulcan!

You have hit on all of the major points as to why Broke Straight Boys gains such a loyal following among its members. That and the fact that the staff and management are so wonderful and accessible.

Peter is right about this of course. Some Broke Straight Boys-1 models were still under exclusive contract with David's production company D&E and filmed on other sites of his after Mark took over the production of Broke Straight Boys content in Colorado. Some models of course lost their looks or had other issues in their personal lives that prevented them from filming again.

Great post Vulcan!

Peter is right about this of course. AHHHH thanks Tampa!!! Some models of course lost their looks or had other issues in their personal lives that prevented them from filming again.
I bet both Shanes still look hot. I don't know why David never put them together, that would have been a 5 scene for the ages. Stimpy and I would have loved it.....

from april 2006 until may 2010, d&e (david and eddie) productions produced the content that blumedia delivered through subscriptions over the internet. david had a practice to video material that over time resulted in videos that were 6 months old before being aired. this practice gave david time to produce non-blumedia videos. also mark was interested in new things, like hd quality equipment and david was not as interested. things like this led to the parting of ways.
blumedia bought College Dudes and kept the director. the turn around time between production and delivery was reduced to one to two months. the ability to make mid-course corrections became easier. the problem is clay (College Dudes director) was no david.
many of the models from Broke Straight Boys 1 stayed with david. Jason is one of a handful of models who went from bsb1 to bsb2.

Remember Clay filmed scenes in Florida for both Cdudes and Broke Straight Boys after the split with David. Production was not moved to Colorado for quite some time.

I don't know that I agree, mikey. He would have a different perspective, but not necessarily better. And I could argue that your perspective would be better because it has the benefit of time.

The basic facts are that D&E hired and housed the models in the Fort Lauderdale Florida area, as well as shot the scenes during BSB1. Are you saying or implying that the company which I presume you are referring to D&E was always owned by Mark & BluMedia?

D&E, (David & Eddie) owned a production studio and hired the models and filmed the content for Broke Straight Boys, Mark compensated D&E for the content which was presented on his site. College Boy Physicals was and still is shot by D&E, but I believe that College Boy Physicals is owned by D&E, and there is a long standing agreement between Mark and David for that content. Several times Mark has been asked about his current relationship with David, and his usual response is that it is "complicated". To say the least. lol

This is just my recollection and understanding of the history here. I could be slightly or way off on some of what I said.

That's what I recall also, as I understood it. In a "complicated" working relationship, D&E was the production company owned by David and Eddie. Mark contracted the scenes through David's production company D&E for release on Broke Straight Boys Up until the split, the only content that BluMedia actually produced, filmed, etc., was Straight Boys Jerk Off and then College Dudes. BluMedia had bought out Collegedudes24/7, rebranded it College Dudes and took over production. After the split with D&E, Clay was given the job as director of both College Dudes and Broke Straight Boys Broke Straight Boys-1 models who were still under active contracts at the time of the split were contracted to D&E and not BluMedia. So BluMedia could not use those models in its own videos.

Of course once those models' contracts expired there was always the legal opportunity of hiring them on Broke Straight Boys-2. For whatever reason though Broke Straight Boys seems to have wanted to chart a new course with fresh talent. Jason Matthews was of course a rare and notable exception to that.

I'm sure that's oversimplified and both D&E and Blu probably have different perspectives on things.

I would agree with What both make and Tampa have stated. The reason we did not see BSB1 models on BSB2 is that they were all recruited by David and he is the one who had phone numbers, emails, etc. I am sure he did not share them after the split. Jason might have made the initial contact and that is how he became part of BSB2 & 3. I will add that David said after what 6+ years of filming he needed a change plus he wanted to do some other things (other video projects) and he did not have the time to do that and BSB1 and College Boy Physicals.

What everyone is missing, is that if the models that were in David's pocket book wanted to contact Mark then it would have been very easy for them to do that, via the site. I doubt very much that many models were under exclusive contracts with D&E, I think probably Tyler and Logan were but that is all. Models like porn Shane, Phoenix, Austin and others were already doing the rounds on other sites.

So what I'm saying is that after D&E did their last film for Broke Straight Boys, the models could still have been used. Maybe they did apply but were not up to scratch ! From what I remember, the quality of the scenes hit an all time low (at that time) just before D&E were fired - this was because there were so many in the can that Mark had probably already paid for, so it would have been a waste of money not to use. It was the members that had to suffer at that time. It was then that I took my first break away from the site.

I think it is all great to hear about the past. But it Was the past. What we should be thinking about is the Now. In my short few years I have seen allot of ups and downs.
Remember Johnnys hand? We bitched . Remember Mr Nobal Now there was a strange man.
I love the Forum the people on the Forum. So I am not going any ware as long as the Forum is still up and running.
We didn't know how good we had it with Johnny. I for one could care less about the TV show. It is all models that are gone anyway.
Oh I will join as long as it is not too much trouble.
But I think who ever is running the show now ? Should start putting a little more energy into Now.
A VERY Lackluster Porn Site
I'd rather have Johnny's hand than have to look at this stupid new set. Just seems we are the ones paying for the TV show.
They should be working on trying to please us Now. I'd hate to lose a friend and companion Yes sad but true the forum has become a companion. And it has Not been Fun Lately. My 2 cents not worth much. But come on guy's this is a porn site too. And I don't feel there has been much good porn in a long time.

One point we need to consider is that while we can criticize, praise, suggest, etc. there is no uniformity. In addition, the voices heard here are at best a tip of the iceberg in relation to the number of total subscribers to Broke Straight Boys Put yourself in Mark's place for a moment. Looking at these ultra few comments, how can he please all?

Let me take this one step further. Looking at this thread, take a guess as to the number of different members providing input. Got your number ready? Well lets name everyone on this thread: Johnny, Jon, Tampa, Mike Stowe, Another1, Peter, Lakeside*, Vulcan*, Pascal, Ambi, Miami 24, Stripe 222, Betu (not counting management, models or myself). Out of 40+ posts only 14 individuals (three with * newbies at less than 50 Post). Lets go one step further, and look at the thread "A Struggle to recruit models. This is similar to this thread concern wise. Out of over 40 posts the only new names here are: Inspiresme, Shyhedge, Danleeh and Yearning*).

So out of over 80 posts, just 18 individuals sharing their opinions (and no Beth). Is it the expectation that 18 individuals from the forum have the say as to what to the direction Broke Straight Boys goes? As Mark has previously stated, our voices and opinions, while important, represents just a small minority of voices. He in the difficult position of trying to balance all the feedback he gets and compromise to maintain an evenness in setting the direction Broke Straight Boys goes. This is not the first time, nor will it be the last, that change has created concern. And with a 4-6 week supply of scenes, change can't happen overnight.

I am not suggesting we don't air our points of view, but we do need to be patient as change is slow and does come when appropriate. Mark does hear us and in the big picture things do change. So let be patience and see what change looks like down the pipe.

Live Long and Prosper (and have a Happy Thanksgiving).

Some very interesting points and perspectives! I guess my enjoyment of Broke Straight Boys has been the same as many of the other sites I find entertaining.

I enjoy the models who have been featured (both past and present). There is always something I would like or would have liked to have seen but, that's consistent with all of the sites I visit frequently. The forum, chat with the models and the upcoming TV show are quite unique for me on this site. Without them however, I would still find myself being a subscriber. The other sites have their issues too I am sure but, I don't feel compelled to worry about that as long as when I sign up, there is entertaining content!

I wouldn't consider my length of time on any porn site a badge of honor. I would say that when it comes to the type of porn and sites I enjoy, Broke Straight Boys consistently/regularly...( and not necessarily every single scene or model....) provides the type of entertainment I enjoy!

That's just my perspective:001_rolleyes:
