New BSB vs Old BSB

So I was checking out some of the older videos tonight and I realized a few things. One they looked awful and drab and made the models look like extras from Twilight. Now were getting true HD. Next, the talking sometimes went as long as 6-7 minutes when recently we've been getting 1-2 minutes of set up which is enough to say your name and get on with the action. most of the models never came back after 2-3 scenes and there were no regulars to break in the newbies with the exception of a select few. The camera sometimes would cut abruptly to an awkward angle or cut as if time has passed for them to figure out what they wanted to do next. The conversations were really bad and the questions had nothing to do with the scene or what they were about to do. The camera action wasnt that good and you often were looking at shadows instead of a hard cock or abrupt cuts that were filler. Now we are getting industry standard editing and close ups as opposed to the one or two take scene that left alot to the imagination. The guys now are overall better looking and so is the quality. They are no cockyboys or Men.com but I just hope they keep it up. In no time they could compete. Looking back now, the good old days werent that good .

As a "Consumer" and a subscriber to this site, as well as a participant on this forum, appreciate this thread discussion. I read the comments enough to realize that BLUMEDIA does not exist in a vacuum either! While members would like them to respond to their every demand sometimes by delivering certain things and models, they are a business in a competitive market too! They have to respond to Trends in this business to stay competitive. I've taken many leads from members posting on the forum and occasionally read articles in the http://thesword.com/. I recommend that members might like to see for themselves what might be (the world outside Broke Straight Boys) to understand why we hear members of management (In my opinion) gently setting the stage for changes; in the filming, in the models or anything different than what some members have grown accustomed to on this site. Very interesting post - and thank you for the data!

First, I just want to say: I was in no way criticizing Dr. M. for liking either "Men.com", or "Cockyboys". That's a matter of his taste, and preference, and certainly, both those sites have plenty of cute models.

However, I was responding in terms of my aesthetic judgement, and preference - which may or may not correspond to anyone else's. The numbers are interesting, and obviously important to site owners for economic reasons, and obviously tell a story about public acceptance of the entertainment being provided: BUT - given a certain baseline of technical acceptability - I don't join or leave sites, because of their general popularity, or their production values.

(Though, of course, I notice their production values, and appreciate them, when they are good.) But I am 99.9 per cent a "model person" ~ for me, it's all about the talent; secondarily about how the talent is used; and the ethos of the site, and its production values, rank a distant third, for me.

Unlike dear Mike, from NYC, I must confess (since it is Sunday!) that I have been, for many years, an erotic-video "junkie". (I suppose this had to do with not having had a b/f, for so many years, and having no real personal outlet for my erotic dreams, and fantasies. The one legitimate criticism one can make, about Bel Ami, is that it is not only super (like ULTRA) vanilla ~ the models are so incredibly straight (for the most part): there is hardly ever even the HINT of an emotional, let alone erotic, connection, between them.

The first time I saw Jason, on www.collegedudes.com (which was then, I think, not a BluMedia property): I fell completely under his spell. And so I was super-glad when Broke Straight Boys hired him back for a second, and truly stellar, series of performances.

So, I would say, over the last couple of years, I think Broke Straight Boys has hosted the BIGGEST NUMBER of the CUTEST MODELS on the Internet - while ALSO constantly upping their game in terms of technical and videographic excellence. I don't know whether this can or will be sustained into the future, but, if Mark and DC want a rave review from ME, they know whom they have to hire again, for an encore ;-)))

Of course, also. . . Broke Straight Boys is the last remaining site on earth, that I know of, that sponsors a wonderful message-board, where it is possible to meet and get to know other members, and even some of the models, to some extent. Sometimes, of course, the message-board is a ZOO - and sometimes it is vexing, frustrating, or even DEPRESSING. But, for the most part (and in the long run) the Broke Straight Boys message-board has been a great blessing, and a lot of fun, and a real joy, in terms of getting to know some very interesting, and very nice, people.

I was encouraging people to look outside this site and see what's going on in the rest of the world (so to speak) and it would make more sense, why changes are necessary! My roomate and I enjoy this site and we just got sick of reading all the comments without saying anything because seriously, who has the time to post (although I admit i have found time lately) on a scene. No doubt you are just trolling the roiling seas for reaction, now, but on the premise that your post was sincere, I'll take the bait.

*Yes, absolutely, the technical standard of videography (and the resulting production and image-quality) on Broke Straight Boys is better now, than it was years ago. But that's been true on virtually every site, across the industry, as technological standards have advanced.

*Yes, there was a lot of talking to set up the scenes on BSB1. I wasn't ADDICTED to those long set-ups, either, but, in fairness, David did have a certain charm in his interviewing technique, AND - because this is "Broke Straight Boys" - a lot of members really enjoyed that banter, and found it added to the fantasy, for them.

*There were plenty of models who appeared in recurring scenes on BSB1. A quick model-search will show you that. As Peter would tell you, "Tank Shane" was in about 16 scenes, and (if you like the repertory concept, as I do) that stacks up pretty well to Broke Straight Boys's closest competitors, even in the present day. (Some people, of course, prefer VARIETY - and so it is always a tightrope for site-managers to walk, balancing the love of established stars, with the taste for new models.)

*Your analysis of BSB1 totally neglects the fact that the team back then found some of the most BEAUTIFUL models, EVER - like Jason Matthews, Danny, Tank Shane, Cousin Anthony, and darling Logan. Many of these guys appeared solely on BSB1. And when it comes to JASON or DANNY - I'd watch them through a "magic lantern", before I'd pay to see many other current models in HD video - even YEARS LATER.

*Dr. M., I don't know why you so frequently refer to "Cockyboys" and "Men.com" as industry leaders. To my eye, they are very run-of-the-mill, middle-of-the pack sites, who sometimes get good models, but not as often as Broke Straight Boys or College Dudes have done. (The only reason I would ever sign to "Men.com" is because they did a bunch of shoots with Tom Faulk - - - but College Dudes had Tom first, and had him BETTER.) I think there are quite a number of sites, both in the USA and Europe, that do a better job of both model-recruitment, AND videography, than either "Cockyboys", or "Men.com."

*Yes, absolutely, I appreciate the strides Broke Straight Boys has made in terms of its videography and technical quality, which definitely do make the videos a pleasure to watch. As far as model-recruitment goes, I think the jury is still out, as between BSB1 and BSB2. BSB2 has done VERY well to get models like Paul, and Damien, and Dakota, I think. Because they are marvelous.

But I think Broke Straight Boys-EVER's greatest models have been JASON (who spanned both periods); DANNY (from BSB1); Anthony (from BSB1); and Tank Shane (from BSB1). Everyone's taste will differ, but that's MY opinion. I think David had a real eye for beauty and talent, and I LOVED the guys he was able to reel in.

Technological improvements are one thing, Dr. M., and I will grant you that. But, I totally disagree that there has ever been a better-looking model on this site, than JASON, or DANNY.

*Certainly, the "old days" weren't perfect, and we have seen a lot of technical improvements, since then. But, many of us look back very fondly on those days, because of the luminous beauty of the models we encountered, on BSB1.

Once again the subject digresses to a Broke Straight Boys/the rest of the porn industry topic. To be honest, I don't give a fuck for statistics on what site is the most visited, who gets the most Cybersocket awards etc etc. Mark has set up a good company in BluMedia and is - based on the mansion and membership numbers, doing very well for himself. The members are here and are paying their subscriptions because they want it to. It is well documented that some members can only afford to pay for this site alone, and some can only afford to spend a few months on the site due to their financial circumstances - but sooner or later they come back.

The site has gone a long way since BSB1 but has always intrigued me. I have had two breaks from the site to try out others such as Helix, Bel Ami and more recently Bigstr - which features two Czech sites where guys go out with their webcams and try to coerce guys off the street to have sex for money. Currently I subscribe to Broke Straight Boys and College Dudes only - I have annual subscriptions to both which saves loads of money.

Finally, there are not many sites that have forums that will let you discuss openly about other competitors. Normally it is against their rules and classed as advertising. Mark doesn't seem bothered about this and even let's people post links and pics from other sites. Freedom of speech is certainly apparent on this forum, and as long as it doesn't get out of hand then I think Mark is quite happy with it, as am I.

I've stayed with Broke Straight Boys for several years because they manage to tease their membership with hope for a great scene. We may have to put up with several mediocre ones in a row, but then finally one breaks through and the forum lights up!

Broke Straight Boys also offers more bonus sites than any other site I've ever visited. Watching the fumbling around that often characterizes Broke Straight Boys scenes is fun and occasionally hot, but the forum makes the site. If I want to see the hardcore stuff, the bonus sites offer a wide range of scenes. I've belonged to just a couple other sites, but only for a few months at a time because they tend to grind out the same type of scenes with the same type of models, and once you've gone through their catologue, there's nothing to do but wait for the next scene. No forums!!!
