I still remember that the early days of clay, the number 3.0 was out of range. Darren and Bobby were in the first over 4.0. Darren and Matt were in the next over 4.0.

That may have been our perception at that time another1, however the overall numbers from all the years of Broke Straight Boys show scenes below four to be in the bottom third out of approximately 1445. Let us see what happens as scenes are released with a new group of models, including the return of Cage Kafig. I would guess that the numbers may go up.

The way I see it is this: Numbers and statistical information is all well and good. It can be interesting and tell a lot about what people who rate certain things feel about what ever it is they are rating. I get all of that. This data is useful and gives the people who use this statically information a gauge by which to measure how something is being received by the percentage of those who voted, rated and so on.

My physical arousal is my "rating system". Whether that's a scene or a model. Whether it's in the top 10 or the bottom 2.

The one thing I can also say is, that I enjoy variety. As much as I may enjoy a model, over time, I look forward to seeing something new. I like being able to anticipate being aroused by something or someone I've not seen before. Even watching the same model over and over becomes pre-dick-table! No matter what the numbers say.....my DICK determines my ratings! Like StuddAndy.......my dick doesn't seem to care what's popular and what's not.....it likes what it likes. Exactly Betu! I recently mentioned the "rag" newspaper of the 1970's called "Screw Magazine" that reviewed porn, mostly straight but some bi and gay, and the reviewer used the "Peter Meter" showing four or five dicks in various stages of arousal to indicate his enjoyment of a film.

My penis tells me what is hot and not what other people may think. I was the biggest supporter of Jimmy Johnson during his year on Broke Straight Boys, while his ratings were never high and his reviews on the forum were even lower, so what "the public" thinks has little to do with my enjoyment.

The only reason I brought up the recent lower ratings was because I've been very disappointed in recent models and scenes, and I'd noticed less comments on each scene on the forum, and when I checked the ratings, I noticed that they've been lower than usual, so adding all that together it pointed to a lag period in the history of Broke Straight Boys But anyone who gets aroused by these current models and gets off to their scenes, I say, "More Power to You"!!! I've noticed the same thing, mikey; and there have been times when I just didn't bother because the scene was just not worth the time and effort.

After I typed my first post on this thread, I was thinking about the forum and it dawned on me that either Mark is as dumb as a fox, or he stumbled his way on to a genius device - the forum. How many times have your written that you came for the porn, but stayed for the forum. When you told me that the first few times, I could never understand it. But now I find myself in the same boat - lol!! Oh, thank you, my captain. Here's how I see it: If there were no forum, you, johnny, and many others including myself would be gone because of our dissatisfaction with the models, the direction of the site, etc. But with the forum, we can commiserate with one another, vent our spleens, then feel better, hang on to the hope for a better day while enjoying the vast library of videos we enjoy more, and remain members. Again, I posit that Mark either thought of this devlishly ingenious move on his own, or he stumbled in to it. Either way, he keeps getting our dues, we're sullen but not mutinous, and we praise him for the forum and his "generosity" for providing it.

You and Mikey speak for many of us on these particular points Stowe. I am not likely to ever leave...because of the forum. But I haven't felt a desire to watch many of the latest releases because of dissatisfaction with the model pool. Even when they bring in a favorite model of mine who I practically adore, they often pair him with someone I'm not interested in. So it's still a bit of a wash, even with a better model. I try not to watch scenes that I won't likely have something positive to say about. And of course I don't take any pleasure in insinuating or saying outright that I find a particular model unattractive sexually. Who wants to hear from someone who's constantly whining about how bad a particular scene is? *Rhetorical question only! LOL* So I just find it easier to skip scenes, not comment on them, and wait for ones I'm more looking forward to.

Of course that also leads me to skip out on the forum which is also unfortunate because I enjoy it so much. Sigh...

Some of the next 3 scenes show promise. Hopefully both literally and figuratively things will turn and move in an upward trajectory in here in the weeks ahead. haha

I agree with you guys that back in the days of David, and to some extent even Clay and Johnny...any scene getting a rating of 4.0 or higher was considered a success. I'm guessing membership was considerably higher back in the day before free porn, pirated porn and all the camming sites became ubiquitous. Nowadays however, (in my opinion) the customers who are still willing to pay for premium porn have higher expectations than they used to. That just makes it tougher for those pay sites still in business. Unscientifically of course, I'd say nowadays that a scene would have to get a minimum of 4.2 to be considered a success with the overall membership.

The funny thing is that with David, you came to expect 4.3.
In the early days with clay, you celebrated breaking 4.0. Bobby and darren, then matt and darren were two. Those were exciting night.
When reaching 4.0 was a goal, thinking of 4.3 as a standard would be beyond expectations. And was. Going from taking small steps to brisk strolls (4.0 to 4.3) took a long time. By the time it was reached, the show closed.
4.0 to 4.2 and 4.3 to 4.6 and 4.7 to 5.0. That's one thumb up, then two thumbs up, one peter up!
For me, the best days are right now. The skill of the camera man is porn evolving. Watching that develop is worth the price. I always had wait until pride season to hear small talk with sha. Now I can download him.

I wanted to use this thread to note that after a string of less than highly rated scenes, that the last three scenes have received excellent grades, so far, as of the time of this post.

Cage Kafig & Robb 4.53
Vadim Black & Chris 4.40
Rowan & Gage Owens 4.45

And with upcoming scenes featuring the ultra popular Tanner, Cage Kafig and Ronan Kennedy, I anticipate more well received offerings. I find ratings and rankings a very interesting way to compare my own thoughts with those of others. From the time I was a kid, I loved reading the Nielson ratings for television, and the Billboard and my local radio station's Top 25 of the top musical hits. And even today, while no longer a big movie goer or fan, I still enjoy finding out on a Monday what the top box office movies were for the previous weekend. And as a college basketball fan, primarily of my Duke Blue Devils , I check the Top 25 rankings faithfully each Monday afternoon during season!

So being a ratings "junkie", I enjoy following the ratings on my favorite internet site as well!

I just picked this random thread to post in. I know ratings change daily and today’s ratings will probably be different tomorrow. It’s just something I find interesting. On the first page of highest rated, the top 15, Benjamin Dover has the most scenes with a total of 5. Chris Taylor is next with 3, and Sky, Richie, Jos Alvarez, & Jake Spencer are tied at 2. Like I said,will probably change tomorrow..lol. Just found it interesting. Also at this moment, the top 3 scenes are all redheads except for Jos Alvarez. Haha. Looks like we need more red in the bed.

Oh I could not agree more, the more red heads we have the better. Cannot get enough of them. Would love to see a three way with Ben, Ethan and Richie, that would be so hot and red is definitely my favourite colour.

I think it is very cool Jay that you found this random thread from over two and a half years ago to post on. As I often like to quote Ms. K, my first close off forum friend, "I came for the porn but I stayed for the forum". She left as did many others over my eleven years here, but I'm remaining as long as there is a Broke Straight Boys and a forum.
