Jack Kevorkian Dr. of death or Humanitarian to 130 gravely ill people.

I myself am still trying to come to grips with his motives
I can understand were a person has free will to ent their suffering.
but I do not see were a human chooses to help others take there own lives it seems he Reveled in the action and the Publicity it got him.

I think Jack Kevorkian is brave for helping the people he does die with dignity. Have you ever seen the film The Sea Inside? (here is a trailer: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/fineline/the_sea_inside/ ) I think there is a fine line in wanting to kill someone and taking their lives and helping someone die in a humane way. One of the tele shows I watch from the UK is dealing with this issue as a storyline right now. I am a person that is for assisted suicide when it is clearly the wish of the sick person to die.

He was a brave and farsighted man, a great humanitarian. He will, in time, be seen as a medical pioneer, who sought to aleviate much un-necessary human suffering, which for too long has been prolonged because of religious dogma. I admired the man and will miss him. I hope that more doctors will pick up his mantle and carry on his noble work.

I agree with jtdestin 100%. I certainly hope we don't see more doctors like him. If a person is gravely ill and in pain, let them end their own life without the help of a demented so-called doctor who likes to play God. Good riddance!!

In my experience as a public guardian, the hospice doc and nurses are so all over this "end of life" stage, that people move in far more respectably and with less fear than with Dr. K.

I'm all about, let people do whatever they want to do. Nowadays, you can't fart without having permission to do so. A women wants an abortion, it's her choice. An old man with late stage cancer wants to choose when/how to die, it's his choice. A gay man wants to marry his long time lover, it's his choice. I don't understand people and that's probably why I'm getting meaner as I get older, people just piss me off all the time trying to dictate someone's life.

Don't get me started me lazy nurses and asshole doctors in hospitals and nursing homes. Those people need a serious awakening. My mother in law has been between hospitals and nursing homes since July. She's pretty much gone but because she's a tough woman, she's hanging on. Nowadays, she just opens her eyes, staring at the ceiling, barely reacting to anything. She has gangrene on a foot which is now solidified, it looks like a tree. She has probably 20 different infections, and so on. Because of the nurses not doing their job, my ex had to quit his job in order to take care of her. I'm personally paying a nurse to be with her 12 hours every night. Which leaves me, on top of that, with having to take care of all the bills/mortgage on my own, not mentioning my personal loans. All that because nurses just don't care. Back in July, My mother in law stayed the whole day bathing in her own shit because the nurses didn't change her diapers. Yes we have to change her diaper every 2 hours, which resulted of her getting an infection down there which hasn't fully healed in 8 fucking months. Oh did I mention she has alzheimer too and clots in her blood up the wazoo that she's had 5 strokes in 10 months. I love her so much that it pains me to see her like that, but I'll do anything for anybody I love, so I'll do whatever I can for her, no regrets whatsoever.

Why Am I telling this story here, because I'm fucking pissed off. People just don't care anymore. We're living in a time where everybody just bitch and bitch and bitch. There is less and less caring. If nurses would do their jobs, a lot of problems could be avoided, and people could live the rest of their life with less suffering. So yeah, I'm grateful that there are doctors like Kevorkian that can help people to die in peace.

Now who can make the choice? The sick person himself or can someone else make the choice? Quite frankly, I don't know what the law says about assisted suicide. If a sick person makes the choice, to me it's assisted suicide, but if someone else makes the choice, then I feel like it's assisted murder. Where is the line? I'm not sure.

Personally, we could never make the choice for her. But we just wished the nurses/doctors would have more compassion which would result in less people wanting to use the service of a dr Kevorkian. Just my 2 cents.

In away you hit on what i am trying to come to grips with about Kevorkian
Where do you draw the line? I believe he crossed it. But I do think a person has free choice over his own life. I have a son form a failed relationship so I draw the line with abortion on the grounds of it being used as birth control. I do believe if the mother’s life is in danger or she was raped she has the choice to end the pregnancy.

Scorpio, First, my heart goes out to you and your family. I know only too well how difficult time like this can be. None of us can say..we know what you're going through because we don't know that. But, some..maybe many...of us have been through similar situations. They tear you to pieces both personally and financially. I think I can speak for many on the forum who extend our heartfelt best wishes to you.

Well it's a damn good thing you don't have a uterus then. So you will never have to make that choice. But who are you to draw the line?? I love how men feel they have a say over a womans body. To all of the people that think they can put their laws on my reproductive organs...they can go screw themselves. I don't tell you what I think you should do with your body, don't EVER tell me what I can do with mine.

R.I.P. Jack Kevorkian.

Steve. I know you probably don't want a bunch of sympathy from strangers, but damn. I feel for you as someone that has been in your shoes under different circumstances. I'm sorry. I hope that things get better for your mother-in-law and that the nurses you employ now give her the dignity and respect she deserves.

Deidra, I find setting limits on what is acceptable when it comes to abortion just as distasteful as you do. No one will ever walk in my shoes and therefore has no right to judge or determine what I do with my body.

It upsets me just as much as opposition to gay marriage does. I want everyone to be able to express their love through marriage and benefit from the same rights my husband and I take for granted every day. Anything less is unacceptable.

I just don't see how anyone ever has a right to legislate decisions I make when it comes to my personal life. Honestly, I have issues with polygamy being illegal. If I wanted to have 2 husbands, I think I ought to be able to. Of course, I'm not going to force that on Bill. Can you imagine?? LOL :)

I just don't understand this thinking, that abortion should only be allowed in cases of rape or danger to the mother. Do you think that if a person makes a decision to have sex that they should willing to live with the outcome no matter how devastating it could be to their life? I suppose I can see how a person can support that thinking until I start coming up with scenarios. The possibilities are endless and I just go crazy thinking that anyone could possibly decide for me what is best for me and my body. I am a 43 year old woman with two beautiful children that I am grateful for every day. And as precious as life is to me, so is my right to choose when to bring it forth and when not to.

Aww thank you guys, I appreciate the warm words :)
Deidra (I miss you girl) and Lovelumps, I couldn't agree with you more. If I was a woman, I would be pissed if anybody would come up and say "Hmm sorry, you didn't get raped so no abortion for you", it's just not right. You should have THE choice, 100%.

I guess I am glad my mom picked giving me life over not giving me life.
Life starts with conception science as proved it.
So what choice does the baby have?
No one says the mother has to keep the baby there is adoption my sister has 2 adopted kids.

Well I never told you what you should do with your body! That’s not my right!
I just stated my beliefs. This is a country of laws and the law says you have the right to kill an unborn child you are carrying if you don’t want it. Your choice! Evan Norma McCorvey (Jane Roe) changed her mind about when life starts and is no longer for abortion. I am a person who believes in free choice. I just choose life!

Life is beautiful and wondrous and in an ideal world, every viable healthy fetus would be able to make it out into the wide open world.

I do have a question, though. If you believe that you don't have a right to choose what a woman does with her body, and you believe in free choice, do you support legislation in favor of choice? Because that is what scares women who believe in choice. The idea that people want to legislate what we can and can't do with our bodies.

This rankles me as much as legislation that keeps everyone from having the right to marry and the protection of the laws that married couples like myself and my husband take for granted every day.

It's infuriating and frustrating.

Abortion.............One of those things that there will never, ever be agreement on. I completely understand both sides of the argument, I think there are pros and cons to both sides, and I am so glad the world is not looking to me to decide this issue.

Assisted Suicide.........I also think that this is one of those touchy, case by case situations. I know that if I was in pain, all the time, with no hope of recovery, there would be no joy in the time I had left, for me or my loved ones.

There’s only one thing from me and you coming to the same point
and that is when life starts! to me A new individual human being begins at fertilization, when the sperm and ovum meet to form a single cell. If the baby's life is not interrupted, he or she will someday become an adult man or woman. So I ask "does that baby have a right to live"?

I believe we have a right as humans to live our life anyway we want to as long as it does not interfear with the way others want to live there’s! LIVE AND LET LIVE! Men, Women, Black, White, Brown, Gay, Straight, Bi, young, Old, and even Single Cell unborn Babies! All should be able to live a full and free life.

I also believe every choice must have a consequence and we must live with it, If I choose to drive drunk and hit a person crossing the street. I don’t get a re-do I must live with my choice and its consequence.

Sex is somewhat the same thing. There are ways to prevent from getting pregnant that don’t interfere with the pleasure of having sex. If someone gets pregnant there are ways to handle that other than ending its life.

I agree the argument will never end
as for Assisted Suicide my sole reason for posting was I did not see Jack Kevorkian as a Hero I saw him as a person using sick dieing scared people as a means for his perverted pleasure he loved the lime light. The drug he as using was banned in prisons for lethal injection because it was deemed inhumane in the pain it caused.
I do believe in a living will that gives you a right to end your life if you’re suffering with no hope to live.
