Hello from Austin!

A man suffered a heart attack and had open heart bypass surgery. Post surgery he woke up to find himself under the care of nuns at a Catholic private hospital.
On his way to recovery, a senior nun and her pretty assitant came up to him and asked him regarding how he was going to pay for services.

He was asked if he had health insurance. he replied in a raspy weak voice, "No"

The nun asked if he had any money in the bank. He replied, "No" The nun asked, "Do you have a relative who could help you?" He said, "I only have a spinster sister who is also a nun."

The junior nun got a little perturbed and announced loudly, "Nuns are not spinsters! Nuns are married to the lord." The patient replied, "Then please send the bill to my brother in law."

A 92 year-old man went to the doctor to get a physical. A few days later the doctor saw the man walking down the street with a gorgeous young lady on his arm. At his follow up visit the doctor talked to the man and said, "You're really doing great, aren't you?" The man replied, "Just doing what you said Doctor, 'Get a hot mamma and be cheerful'." The Doctor said, "I didn't say that. I said you got a heart murmur. Be careful."

Thanks Robert! I got a nice giggle last night! I needed that!

An old man is laying in his hospital bed, when a nurse walks in. He tries to remove his oxygen mask to say something, but the nurse stops him. "No need to remove the mask. You need your oxygen. You can say it with the mask on." So the man does as told and asks, "Are my testicles black?" The nurse blushes and replies, "Sir, I'm sorry, but I can't answer that. You'll have to wait for the head nurse, I'm only here to take your vitals." Frustrated, the old man repeats, "Are my testicles black?". Again the nurse refuses to answer. They go through this several more times and finally the nurse rips back the sheet covering him, and inspects his balls, rolling them in her hands to get a close look and says, "No sir, your testicles are not black. They appear to be quite alright." (He old man smiles, removes his oxygen mask and says weakly, "That was lovely. Thank you. But I what I asked was, 'Are my test results back?".

LOL! That's so funny! :)

Lovelumps,

You still in Austin? Hope both you and your dad are doing well. And you mom too! Having been through that with my dad, I know how it can be trying to care for parents, but trust me, it only gets worse! LOL Hope you get a chance to go out and experience some good Tex-Mex while you are there. Tell your dad he has many well wishers here at Broke Straight Boys! Oops, or, maybe not tell him, LOL. At least you know it! Take care darling LL.

Nope, not in Austin. My parents live about 60 miles east-ish of Austin. We got back to their home yesterday early afternoon. We stopped at Kerbey Lane Cafe yesterday morning for breakfast. I made my own up, they were featuring fried green tomatoes. I ordered those and poached eggs and built my own benedict. The tomatoes were served with a roasted pepper cream sauce, which was just right, a little spicy, with lots of flavor.

I appreciate the well wishes!

So out here in the country, which is where I am now, life is a little different. It's peaceful and so very quiet. The only sounds are of the animal variety, and the rickety old windmill that used to pump water from the well into the holding tank. Now, that's mechanical.

My parents are doing well. Dad is doing great! Mom has been pretty stressed out over all this. Because to top it all off, their beautiful Aussie has been fading over the last few weeks. He has always been a fierce protector of my parents. Very early Monday morning, when the EMS arrived to take my dad to the hospital, Silver didn't even get up. He let out a little woof. My mom had to move him out of the way of the paramedics. He's a big Aussie. He weighs 80 pounds. Their vet met my mom at the house and loaded him into my mom's car and she drove Silver to the office, where the vet could care for him for the next several days. He would eat and drink, but he wouldn't get up or do much more than sleep.

My mom went to the office yesterday to check on him. He didn't get up then, either. They planned to go over this morning together to let dad see him one last time, and have him put to sleep. They got a call from the vet this morning that Silver had passed away during the night. His very last gift to them, so they didn't have to watch him go. He was a wonderful dog. We will all miss him terribly.

That is so heartbreaking. How are your mom and dad dealing with it? Yes, is was a blessing for them, not to have to put her down, but losing a long time friend is always heartbreaking.

I'm so very sorry to hear about Silver. Animals can be true friends, always sharing the good times and by your side during the bad...

I'm so sorry about Silver LL. I'm glad to hear that your father is doing better. All my best to you and yours.

Sounds like Silver was an extraordinary friend and companion for you parents. And I know it is like loosing a family member because they do become your family.

Glad your Dad is doing so well. REmember to keep an eye on Mom. Wives tend to get all wrapped up in taking care of their spouse and forget to take care of themselves. Continued well wishes for all.

Hello from Denver!

I'm home again! It feels great to be back home with my family. I missed the boys a lot, and it was hard to be away from Fritz! The videos and pix I took of him before I left kept my parents laughing. He's a funny guy. We skyped a few times with the boys while we were in Austin, then back at their house. It's so great to be able to keep in touch that way. I swear they both grew in the 10 days we were apart.

JLipps, you are right. My mom is suffering a little from sleep deprivation and stress. Fortunately, she had a nuclear stress test last month and she's very healthy! However, I think the stress of dad being in the ER twice and the EMS coming to the house gave her a mild kind of PTSD. She's a little jittery and uneasy. It doesn't help that they live in the country, 25 minutes from the nearest town. But they are both fit and healthy and active and I feel confident that this stress will pass quickly.

It's taken me since 10:30 this morning to get all caught up on the forum and the NYC BTS. Whew! Now I just need to download the updates I missed and find time to watch them.

I'm thinking of fixing fried green tomatoes tonight for dinner. I'm so impatient! My garden went nuts while I was gone!

Love you all! :001_wub:

So glad you are home and your folks are doing well. It is such a great thing that you were able to be there for your parents. Not everyone gets that opportunity and has to live with the guilt of not being available for them.

You are going to have a great weekend catching up on updates and the BTS. Have fun.

I don't really know what to say hun apart to wish your Dad and mum the best of health. The green tomatoes sound as if they are unripe so I'll give them a miss. But any country who mixes jelly and lettuce and has creamed beef for breakfast, is wierd lol.

Really glad everything is going well, continued prayers for you and your family. Hope you get plenty of rest. xx!

Jon, I was never a big tomato fan, so when I heard of fried green tomatoes, I wanted to puke!
One day, by accident, I tried one. Damn it to hell! I liked it! Been eating them ever since.
