Dear Dave,

As a person who is very involved in the porn industry, I have a couple of questions. Bear with me on this....I have to discourse first....the questions are at the end.

In my very limited knowledge of the porn business, as an observer only, I have come to a conclusion....this is unfounded, and strictly my own, because I don't know any better....but I have lumped porn into about 4 catagories. I know, I know, there are many, many more but for my illustrative purposes I've chosen to list only 4.

Twinks....These people are about 18 to 25 and very young looking doing somewhat inexperienced porn shoots catering to maybe an older audience

Frats......These are a little more mature, and older looking about 21 to 30 with more physical definition to their bodies, catering from younger to a little older audience

Older......These are grown, mature men say 30+ to 50, pretty buffed generally paired with same age, or younger as daddy/son

Fetish.....These too are grown men who play together and some who use "twinks" and "frats" as their playmates who have shown an interest to participate in a particular fetish

I know I'm generalizing in this post, but I didn't know how else to put it. Dave, can I have your input in helping me and perhaps others understand what makes a twink, frat, older and fetishist, (besides the equipment) in the porn industry.

Wow! These are some great questions. Being in the business for 8 years now..I may not have all the right answers and others in my industry may disagree with my answers but here it goes. I love how you placed your 4 catagories, I'm sure there are much more and we can add to it...but I think and agree those are the major 4.


As a director/producer, what is the active film life expectancy of a young guy that's first featured as a twink? I mean, when does he not stay or be viable to be filmed as a twink.?-I think as you put it, a twink is a smooth boyish looking guy between the ages of 18-21 years old, some twinks can be older and go up to 23 years old. However, in most cases, twink boys in this business have a career for about 2-3 years if they are smart. What I mean by smart, not do drugs, not escort themselves out, don't go from studio to studio. Unfortunetaly, most twink models do burn themselves out and only last for 1-2 years and you don't see them anymore. Only a few and I mean a few are well known such as Sammy Case or Brent Corringan from Cobra is one of those models. I have never seen a twink model go far in this industry

Do twinks graduate to "frat" work if they have "star" quality?....or do they just get older?-I think most just get older. Again, most twinks burn out and fade away as newer hotter twinks take there place.

Do older "stars" graduate to do "daddy" work?....or do they kind of gravitate to "fetish" work"?-I think the more popular porn stars like Mathew Rush and guys like that, once they get older...most of them get into production and start there own production company and they become more active in the industry...as for older big porn stars...I can't really give you a good answer because that part of the industry with models can go in many differents directions, since your dealing with older models/stars, usually they are smarter and have more experience. Unlike a twinkboy.

Do you think there is any age restriction....older or younger....on the people who do fetish work?-Fetish porn is very interesting and it takes a certain type of model. In our industry, twink boys or frat guys are very limited in there experience when it comes to fetish or kinks. Pending on how hardcore the fetish and kink is, guys between the ages of 21-30 are not usually into it but may try it..perhaps simple fetish or kink...like being tied up and getting a slow teasing handjob...or perhaps do medical fetish but anything really hardcore...its tough. However, the older guys from 30 on up are more into. Its very odd to meet a younger guy into fetish/kink. Perhaps Goth boys, emo boys will be willing try...but those boys are hard to find and usually not willing especially your run of the mill twink boy

I know of one situation....and only one.....a former high school student of mine went into the gay male porn industry for money to put himself through college....he was really good (with Cobra), but made his money, received his degree, and moved on to a non-porn related job.

I guess it’s true that twinks don’t last too long in the porn business, but then again do any of them really last that long unless they have star status. I have watched a lot of hot twinks and enjoyed their work but after a few years they have dropped off the radar and not seen again for what ever reason. But then that could be said for any guy or girl for that matter if they don’t have the right manager if they have one, stick with a studio that treats you with respect and live right. The business lives and dies on how you look, to not take care of yourself drives down how much you are asked for work.

I have to say you mentioned one of my favorite twinks David, Sammy Case is so awesome I love his scenes he is hot when he is a top but I love when he bottoms. Another favorite of mine is Skyy Lee, I love it when he gets spanked. I also love the fact that he is a screamer either when he gets fucked, rimmed or just touch his hole in any way. Dave, you told Ace he reminded you of Jeff Stryker, yeah? That guy maintained his stardom for quite a while if I'm not mistaken. I've seen some vintage film with someone more to my taste, a little tousleheaded dirty blond called Kip Noll. I think he lasted quite a while as well, maybe because he was so wanton and wild and such a good actor. Does that name ring a bell with you? He goes way back to the late 70's or early 80's i think.

Wow, you are going back a ways. A friend of mine has a huge porn collection and he showed me some classic 80's movies. I didn't think there would be a lot of diffrence between the 80's and the 90's. Those knee length socks are quite a turn off. LOL However, two of my favorite classic movies were "Power Tool" with Jeff Stryker and John Davenport (actually I would have done John Donovan in those days.) and "Big Guns" with Rick Donovan (man I felt bad for that paper boy) and John Davenport (I loved the camping scene).
