Thanks Mikey!
I'm not sure why I tend to be in such a minority in my love for
Ian Dempsey. But I became a big fan. I'm not saying he was God's gift to
Broke Straight Boys or anything over the top like that. But I was very pleased with his work and his contributions to the site. I remember fondly when he posted in here with us and even started a series of homemade Youtube videos he did for us. Ian was still in the closet to most of his former high school classmates, friends, family(?) and the people in his home town. In the YT videos he posted in here he answered questions we posed to him in advance, as well as just volunteering some general bits of non-identifying personal information about a past relationship (hetero), as well as his decision to do gay porn.
The best I can figure out from guesswork and supposition is that Ian committed the cardinal sin of, wait for it... Duhn duhn duhn... Using the same email address on his YT account as he did on his real life Facebook account. The horror! No. Seriously.
The fine folks at Google (ahem!) decided it would be a wonderful idea to link his Clark Kent FB page to his YT page. Along the lines of (I'm guessing here and not an exact quote at all) "All of you who are on the friends list of Clark Kent might enjoy checking out the easily accessible links we're providing you right here to see all these YT videos created by C.K. himself."
It was a disaster for Ian. Like a bomb dropped out of the sky. All of his high school friends on his FB friends list, including I'm guessing parents, grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, neighbors, maybe fellow church parishioners... All of them got a chance to see Ian in videos where he talked about doing gay porn. So he was totally outed to his former high school. A girl he dated in high school and his views on some of the reasons for their failed relationship was one of the topics he discussed in one of the videos. She saw the video in question and even though he never shared her name, she recognized herself as the subject of the conversation, and was Pissed!
So without any advance warning for poor Ian, the bomb dropped on his previously anonymous life. Suddenly all of his FB contacts were watching his YT videos (originally intended strictly for us private members and fans here in the forum) and as he told it his phone started blowing up. Phone calls, text messages, voicemails, emails, Facebook messages... The whole nine. It was a mess! Talk about drama. And he was only about 18, 19 years old at the time. So it's not like he had tons of worldliness, maturity and accumulated wisdom to fall back on and help lead him quickly out of the drama.
Fortunately (once the dust settled) it did have a happier ending for Ian. He was outed as a gay porn star to his whole town. But for the most part he seemed to have been able to make peace with his friends, relatives and with a bit of a sense of humor...he turned it into a positive of sorts.
