Hey, just to remind you soccer fans that the 2010 World Cup starts this Friday in South Africa at 3pm UK time. The big event will be Saturday when England play the USA at around 7pm or 730pm UK time.

I realise that soccer in the USA is a fairly minority sport, but it has grown in popularity over the past few years and the Yanks have done quite well recently and I fear a shock coming on Saturday.

So come on you Yanks and give England a whooping.. LOL

J.O. History ??

Has Tyler ever allowed someone else to jack him to completion? Irregardless, it was a fantastic show. To hell with always having things in order. I would cry if I ever heard such as this on the cutting room floor.

Mmmm... soccer players... reminds me of my first real BF, he was a German exchange student, and had the best legs... but I digress....

Here in my little corner of the world, we're pretty big on soccer! We are having a World Cup party tomorrow night. One of my neighbors is fixing South African curry for all of us to kick it off. We've got a contingency from SA, Australia, UK, and Switzerland. Pretty exciting stuff! Best of luck to the UK! Maybe we'll kick your asses!

Yes it's amazing how a country like the uk which, like the rest of the world is in a financial mess, manages to rally round and forget the bad times that we are in, for the sake of a football competition. At this moment in time you cannot walk down any street in England without seeing St Georges Cross flying from a house window or as flags from car windows. My parents and grandparents say it reminds them of more difficult times such as WWII when everyone helped each other or in a better light, the street parties which followed the war such as the Queen's jubilee and Charles and Diana's wedding.

Back to the football and whoever wins or looses on saturday, both teams still have a chance of qualifying for the next round if they can both beat the other 2 oponents.

I just want to remind everyone that the Chicago Black Hawks, for the first time in 49 years, have won the Stanley Cup - ice hockey's highest prize!

I'm not a big NHL fan, but I can relate to a long suffering passionate fan, so congratulations to the Black Hawks, (the team of the great Bobby Hull), and to you Silvercamel. :001_smile:

My condolences...but good luck for the rest of the way

Condolences ?? It was a 1-1 draw lol. but I suspect it could have been worse. Well done the USA for playing a good game and nearly winning it. Sure your goal was a fluke but they all count. So my prediction in my last post may well come true with USA and England both qualifying.

Commiserations to the USA team who lost their second round match to Ghana yesterday. It was a good game and the Yanks took Ghana to extra time before losing 2-1. Soccer has come a long way in the USA and you should be very proud of your teams efforts.

I am absolutely ashamed at Englands performance this afternoon. They were rubbish and I'm glad they are out. Sure they should had awarded the 2nd goal as the ball was clearly over the line, but make no doubt about it, the Germans deserved to win.

These professional footballers get over 100k pounds a WEEK. They should be forced to hand a months wages to charity, they were a disgrace.

jon, it's big of you to be so nonpartisan, but a lot of people think that the idiot referee's klutzy call demoralized a team that had played well up till they were robbed of the 2 all. If you think you are going to be cheated by an official of the goals you score, it surely must make you uneasy about exactly how you make them and how they appear to a blind guy posing as a world class referee. That's something a soccer player shouldn't have to worry about when the action gets fast. I think the English team has been exemplary in their attitude and sportsmanship. You can be proud.

Just for the record. Nederlands are taking the cup. Calling either Germany and Nederlands final or Spain and Nederlands final.. either way Nederlands have been the only consistant team through the tournament so far. Argentina has also been a surprise this year as their team is looking strong. Unfortunatly Germany is to much of a tank team and will most likely take Argentina out next round. But you never know there have been a couple upsets so far....

I backed Argentina to win before the competition and I'm still hangining in there. Germany were classed as too immature when the comp started but they are coming on strong. Mind you they didn't have to do much to beat poor England lol.

Regarding Netherlands, I was there a few years ago during the world cup and the hole country is covered in orange. It's like a different plante lol.. Guess who's just been watching Dr Who.
