I spoke with a computer repair technician at a privately owned store. I asked him about Windows 10. He discouraged me from getting it. He said Microsoft lost billions on Windows 8. They want to figure out how to get some of that money back. In as many words he said there's no such thing as a free lunch. He says what Microsoft's plan is, is to offer the program for free, but then once you've adapted it to your computer, and after a trial period of a certain length of time, they will start to charge you for all these upgrades. Certain updates that they'll advertise and try to get people hooked on, will be for annual subscription fees. Possibly even at a' la carte rates for particular programs. So after they seem to be offering you something for free out of the kindness of their hearts...and you've deleted the old operating system off your computer...get ready to open your wallets wider after the free introductory trial period ends.
As I say, that's the opinion of one person I spoke with on it who is at least somewhat knowledgeable of the industry. It may not turn out to be that way exactly. But my cynicism of corporate culture and the worldliness I've accrued over time, leads me to believe that this is much closer to the direction where this new "free" operating system is heading. They may even want an annual subscription fee just to give you routine updates to existing programs you already currently use on other Window's platforms. Then when you grumble and complain about being taken hostage to this new system, and now have all these extra fees and expenses, they're gonna counter by saying they updated your whole computer operating system with the newest technology for "FREE."
Long story short, I'm opting not to do the upgrade.
