I wonder what's going to happen tomorrow when windows 10 starts downloading to PC's? I reserved it. I probably will upgrade as soon as I get it but wondering if I'll like it and if it will go smoothly. What are you guys going to do?

I am an old fart! if it is new, then it will be buggy. I have my list of words to be said after an upgrade.
I hope I am half joking!

I'll be right there with you upgrading. I can't stand Windows 8 and hope and pray Windows 10 delivers. I also go on the road with my Mac so I'll be covered if it fails.

I used the upgrade on my laptop with 7 and FORGET IT no one said you couldn't use wifi you have to be directly connected to the router. So at 33% it disconnected and now Im between 7 and 10 and nothing works Im in the process of going back to 7. I spent a day on the phone with dell and Microsoft is so busy after hours of waiting I got disconnected. I backed up sopme but will be a mess when it is restored. My desktop has 8.1 and it wants to go to 10 BUT Ill hold off for a while.

Edge is the new browser. Its fast and pretty good has some features Ill find out about 1 is view in private, It stays out of cookies and history.

I wish I knew what you all are talking about. I have no clue what is going on.

in the world of computer, Microsoft is releasing a new operating system (windows 10). the promise is that installing it on devices will be painless. past experience suggest painless is a term of art. like when someone drawing blood uses it.

I had windows computers for several years and spent massive amounts of time with tech support. I started out with Windows Millennium, which was a short lived system, but it was my first computer. That was a bad omen.

Long story short, I went through 3 computers that all failed within 2 or 3 years (and all ran Windows). I bought a forth and on the first day found out that the touch pad couldn't be switched for left handed use. That was it. I sent it back.

THE NEXT WEEK I WENT OUT AND BOUGHT A iMAC. EUREKA!!!!!! I've had it for four years and have only had to call Apple a few times because I was too computer illiterate to figure something out. NO BUGS!!!!!!!

Apple products are spendy, but well worth the cost because they work better, last longer and you don't have the hassle of listening to elevator music for 20 minutes while you wait for somebody in the Far East to answer a question. APPLE CARE IS BASED IN THE USA.
NEW OPERATING SYSTEMS ARE FREE. They come out about once every 12 to 18 months. The download takes about 45 minutes.

Spare yourself a life of Microsoft agony and get a Mac. Your blood pressure and anger management counselor will thank you.

im still using windows vista lmao i think its the best!!

I'm glad you've had good luck with it John. After loving Windows XP, Vista was not what I had hoped for. But windows 8 has been no love affair either. haha

I spoke with a computer repair technician at a privately owned store. I asked him about Windows 10. He discouraged me from getting it. He said Microsoft lost billions on Windows 8. They want to figure out how to get some of that money back. In as many words he said there's no such thing as a free lunch. He says what Microsoft's plan is, is to offer the program for free, but then once you've adapted it to your computer, and after a trial period of a certain length of time, they will start to charge you for all these upgrades. Certain updates that they'll advertise and try to get people hooked on, will be for annual subscription fees. Possibly even at a' la carte rates for particular programs. So after they seem to be offering you something for free out of the kindness of their hearts...and you've deleted the old operating system off your computer...get ready to open your wallets wider after the free introductory trial period ends.

As I say, that's the opinion of one person I spoke with on it who is at least somewhat knowledgeable of the industry. It may not turn out to be that way exactly. But my cynicism of corporate culture and the worldliness I've accrued over time, leads me to believe that this is much closer to the direction where this new "free" operating system is heading. They may even want an annual subscription fee just to give you routine updates to existing programs you already currently use on other Window's platforms. Then when you grumble and complain about being taken hostage to this new system, and now have all these extra fees and expenses, they're gonna counter by saying they updated your whole computer operating system with the newest technology for "FREE."

Long story short, I'm opting not to do the upgrade.

I upgraded on the 29th of July with no problems. I like the new operating system better than Windows 8 and I have not had a problem. I even upgraded my laptop with no issues except better performance.
