When time permits, I like to explore new porn sites and follow different models. A good majority of the models I follow have either gotten their start or have appeared in BluMedia productions, either on Broke Straight Boys or College Dudes While there used to be an influx of new models introduced, I now notice that only the "strong survive". Many of the models who are still filming are appearing on various sites to keep working (steady) or doing live chats. Broke Straight Boys is unique in that, what they try to provide, what members voice on the forum, are new faces, straight or believably straight, amateur guys doing porn for relatively the first time. The rotation of models and scenes can be indicative sometimes of a smaller pool of guys available. Even on College Dudes, the rotations can sometimes be of the same handful of models. The difference being, they can or do use models who are both gay and straight and have or continue to work for other studios.

I recently read some comments made by someone who works in the industry; how the free porn has affected the monies that models used to make doing scenes. This seems to ring true as I see established models either working for some major sites exclusively or working for many different companies as "free agents". While other sites seem to be suffering from a lack of new enrollment of models. Some models are even just filming occasionally or have had scenes released recently that were filmed a while back.

In time, I would almost expect to see Broke Straight Boys having to change their strategies in order to continue to deliver on the uniqueness of the site and the Broke Straight Boys premise. If for no other reason than...."Times....they are a changing".....

What are your thoughts?

Interesting observation. In our way of life money talks. Even free sites make money by their advertisers. If we stay it works when we leave they lose. I would like to see guys do other things besides what they do here.

My thoughts are that you are 100% accurate and correct in your premise and your conclusion, but my question is what can Broke Straight Boys do to change their strategy and retain their uniqueness within the basic premise of the site?

If the industry is hurting as a whole, due to the lack of paying members of this and other porn sites, how can they afford to pay the necessary costs to employ exceptionally good looking guys, who fall into the believably straight genre?

I completely agree with you Betu that "Times....they are a changing"..... But I wonder if the genie can ever be out back in the bottle.

I love Bob Dylan but I also think of playwrights Lerner and Loew, for as a young pre-teenager, my mother took me to see one of my few Broadway shows, and it was Camelot with the young stars Richard Burton, Julie Andrews Robert Goulet and Roddy McDowell among others. I loved the show and requested for my Mom to buy the album for me, and ever since when something once great and majestic and almost magical for me, (as Broke Straight Boys was at it's height along with an active forum filled with some of my hero's and villains), is no longer around I think of the play and the song.

The site has changed. Before there was very little bareback, not there is lots of it. In the early days there was the token gay, but then there was a big gap until recently. Before there was hardly any kissing, kissing is normal now.

I was never a fan of Clay's, but part of it was my loyalty and admiration for David, so it would have taken someone very special to let me accept the new director. But the money throwing was not Clay's fault in my opinion. If you recall, we had a slew of posts, some by brand new forumites and some by Mark himself telling us that many of model's who worked for David were gay, and the new version of Broke Straight Boys would get back to real straight boys, so I feel the money throwing and the written signs on the wall, and having the boys show their freshly fucked asshole, and say demeaning things like, "I'll do anything for money" were part of a designed company campaign to show us that these guys were really straight. But that stopped with the negative comments on the forum, and I'm sure in messages and emails to management as well.

But I do agree that his "in scene" comments and questions to the models were indeed "awkward" and again he looked even worse in contrast to the man he replaced. I think that it was due to the negative criticism that Clay went to the new style of cold openings with no dialog where the scenes always opened with a gentle kiss, as the boys undressed each other and proceeded to make love. There were some good looking guys who performed well, but it had nothing to do with Broke Straight Boys in my eyes. But now everything is different again, and I hope we are at the dawn of a new successful era causing the forum to be buzzing with excitement again, in the near future.

I've been through "dead" periods here before Johnny, like after we found out that David was gone but we were still watching his "bottom of the barrel" scenes waiting for an announcement when there would be a new director and new scenes released. That was a very dead and unhappy time on the forum, some left and others of us were just bitter, disgruntled fans.

So let's not bury "the corpse" yet, as it has re-risen before. It may still have life in it yet. lol

mike, they were not bottom of the barrel scene. they were simply the last in line scenes. last in, last out! with some line cutting. it was a simple we have decided to go in a different direction kind of thing. the quality was high right to the end. not getting a new contact was not anything that was known to david when the last episodes were shot. that confusion together with the lack of news on the coming changes left a lot of people unhappy and confused. the site suffered. believe in a better future.

You are correct that the last scenes shown were the last scenes filmed, so you are correct historically another1. But to those of us who went through that period the term "bottom of the barrel scenes" has a definite meaning, and we can recall specific models from that era. Much as the "Affordable Health Care Law" is known as "Obamacare", to me in popular Broke Straight Boys nomenclature, that is how I refer to that period.

And I agree with your last sentence as I try to "believe for a better future" currently.
