I noticed that our Tasmanian forumite Grace17 was in offline mode today. I hope she and her family and friends are okay because a lot of Tasmania is currently suffering from vast fires due to the heatwave.

Thanks, everyone, for caring...

I'm okay and so are my family. Sometimes I forget how small the world is, and it didn't occur to me that fires down here would be in the news elsewhere. I was so hot and upset yesterday I ended up in bed all day with a migraine.

I live in the north and the fires are in the south east. A lot of Greg's (husband) family are down south but, thank goodness, no one is in the fire's path so far. My brother in-law is a firefighter and he fighting the main fire on the peninsula and I'm worried about him, but he's a professional and heading the fire away from homes is vital right now.

Unfortunately many homes have been lost and because the area is farmland there is a terrible loss of livestock. Over 100 people are unaccounted for, but the area is a tight-knit rural community so lots of people will be out helping others and will hopefully check in later.

I am thankful that you are in a safe area. I will continue to keep your brother in-law in my thoughts, as he puts himself in danger, to keep everyone else safe. Firefighters are just amazing to me, going toe to toe with with giant flames, in 50 pounds of equipment........

Actually he is very amazing! I'm not sure which order it it is, but the Queen awarded him an Order of the British Empire for his outstanding charity efforts over the years, so now when he wants to be annoying he can legally add a string of impressive letters to his name. He's also gorgeous...I always tease him that his next charity venture should be a nude firefighter calendar with him on the cover
