I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do, because I notice it always coincides with their own desires.

Dear Sylvia;
The ultimate ignorance is the rejection of something you know nothing about, yet refuse to investigate. Yes, our lives, our world, our everything is determined by our beliefs and more so by the feelings that back those beliefs. Read all books, literature, including your Bible, find your true feelings. They are not in your head, but in your gut. If you have to choose between being kind and being right, choose being kind and you will always be right. Your beliefs don't make you a better person, your behavior does. I am not going to censor myself to comfort your ignorance. Any institution that seeks your compliance through intimidation obviously doesn't have any actual authority or there would be no need for such coercive means. The purpose of religion is to control yourself...not to criticize others.
Sylvia, thirty-five million people in the U.S. are hungry tonight, 1.3 million of them are children. If another country did this to our children, we'd be at war. Choose your battles well. If your God is telling you to hate any group of people, you're listening to the wrong voice in your head. Life will give you whatever experience is the most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. Work through this.
I leave you with a prayer...

May all beings be released from suffering...
May all beings be eternal and boundless...
May all beings be infinite and timeless...
May all beings be safe.

bobbity, thank-you for this post. xxoo Kyle

Nicely put Kyle...

Thanks, Peter. I just read that a judge refused to hear her case against all homosexuals.(threw it out) Boy, I was scared there for a minute (second) lol So she will never get the letter.

Thank you Bobbity for bringing this up for discussion.

That's an amazing post Kyle. It really puts all of our earthly priorities into context. Thank you!

As far as any presumed merits of her lawsuit go, through this I actually see us getting closer to the finish line of social acceptance. Why? Because it shows the desperation of the homophobic fringe in the general public. Conservative intellectuals have a harder and harder time defending and edifying the unabashed bigotry of the anti-gay segment of the population.

Bill O'Reilly himself saw the writing on the wall a couple years ago. As one who is skilled in the art of debate, with points, counterpoints and scores being kept, he's smart enough to know which arguments (political, social, philosophical) can win the day. As much as he hated to admit it, he said that all of the political, social and moral debates over gay marriage in particular could be won in the longer term when (as he foresaw it happening) they all came down to religious and ideological interpretation of the Bible and other religious scriptures. One would also assume that he has done the math in regards to civil rights for gays in general (exclusive of the issue of gay marriage) and reached a similar conclusion. In a mostly secular society such as ours, homophobia cannot win out in the long view of history.

We should actually be thanking our sister Sylvia Driskell because she has done us a great service. Not in the way she had intended to of course. But the outcome will be positive. She's showing us the desperation and disappointment of those who realize that they are losing the battle to keep the prejudice going against an oppressed minority in the country. She isn't couching it or hiding it behind the flowery and lofty prose of Ivy League educated conservatives. She's putting it out there in a more base fashion and laying it all bare. Bless her!

Very good points, Tampa. Thanks. I hadn't thought of Sylvia doing us that favor, but I think you're right. You are a very good writer and thinker. Your use of logic is exact, without hasty generalizations, false conclusions, using precise cause-effect, and no bandwagoning. I'm going to be in Tampa for a conference late summer. Are my two favorite restaurants still there? Pepe's on Kennedy and Columbian in Ybor City? I often remember wonderful celebrations at these and other restaurants in Tampa.

Thanks Kyle. :) And yes. Both restaurants are still there. :) For ambiance and a sense of local history, you can't beat the Columbia restaurant.

Thanks Juanjo. It's nice to know that her suit has already been dismissed. lol

Oops. Now that sentence makes more sense. Sorry for the mangled text. :)
