Real Sports - Athletes and Teams that we follow and admire.

But it is not how you start but how you end that matters,

I am not a Mets fan but being a New Yorker, there is no way that I couldn’t admire, respect, and truth be known be jealous that the Yankees did not have a pitcher of the caliber of Tom Seaver during that time frame. Today before their 2022 season opener at Citifield, the Mets unveiled a ten foot bronze statue of the late great Tom Seaver a.k.a. The Franchise. Job well done by Mets owner Steve Cohen.

And Mikeyank if you go to the Mets vs. Diamondbacks game tomorrow afternoon at 1:10 P. M., you will receive a mini statue of Tom Seaver! So receive a piece of New York baseball history tomorrow by going to the Mets game!

As I mentioned the other day, hockey was never a sport that I closely followed but I was certainly aware of the great New York Islanders teams of the early 1980’s and one of their stars, Mike Bossy, passed away at age 65, a victim of cancer. And from my perspective now, age 65 is very young. Very sad news.

Yes it is but alas I lost two , the wives of two of my sons in their early 40'. The first left my eldest with 5 kids, one too young to remember his mother. He has been a great parent much beloved by my grandchildren.

While Duke had a great year, senior co-captain Joey Baker had a sub par senior season and hardly played at the end of the season. We now know why as he had hip surgery. But the good news is the operation went well and under the recent NCAA eligibikty rules, he will return to Duke for a fifth season next year.

Duke’s Freshmen sensation last year, Paolo Banchero did announce this week that he is declaring himself in the upcoming NBA Draft. It was great to have Paolo this past season and I wish him a great NBA career. To me and to the legions of Duke fans, he will always be a part if the Duke Brotherhood.

College basketball is over but several former Duke players are in the NBA playoffs including Jayson Tatum. He showed flashes of his brilliance in his one year at Duke back in 2016-2017.

But he has developed into one of the top players in the NBA and is having a great series against Brooklyn for the Boston Celtics.

Andrew has since moved on but yesterday another local kid named Ron Marinaccio who grew up in nearby Toms River, New Jersey who was also a Yankee fan made his debut on the Yankee Stadium pitching mound. What a thrill for this kid too!

And he was engaging in his first post game interview as well.

Fame is fleeting and the odds are against him, but he had his dream come true yesterday. I hope he becomes a star!!!:001_smile:
Yankees are winning big today 10-0 in the ninth inning and young Ron Marinaccio is pitching the ninth. He hadn’t pitched in ten days. Dang. I forgot how cute he is. Here is a butt shot for those so inclined. Lol

He gave up two runs but Yankees won 10-2. So all is good.

Yankees Most Valuable Franchise in MLB at $5 Billion, Forbes Estimates

Last week Forbes ranked the Yankees as the most valuable MLB franchise at $5 Billion.

The New York Yankees are the most valuable franchise in Major League Baseball, according to Forbes' annual rankings released on Thursday.

Worth an estimated $5 billion, New York experienced a nine percent increase from the club's valuation last year.

"The Yankees generated $683 million in revenue last year, $127 million more than the Los Angeles Dodgers, the second most valuable team on this year’s ranking," Forbes reported.

Only the Dallas Cowboys are worth more than the Yankees across all professional sports. New York has held the No. 1 spot among MLB franchises every year since Forbes' rankings began in 1998.

In third place, the Red Sox are valued at $3.3 billion. Then sit the Chicago Cubs (3.2 billion) and San Francisco Giants ($3.1 billion). Forbes estimates that the average MLB team is valued at $1.85 billion – up four percent from last year.

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Baseball and Yankee fans often talk about the failures of the Yankees over the last decade, having not won a World Series since they defeated Philadelphia in 2009. However they always have a winning team and have been in the play offs seven of the last ten years. And so as a die hard Yankees fan, it is nice to see that their business model is extremely successful as well.

Unlike many Yankee fans, I do not subscribe to the theory that unless they make the World Series or better to win it, the season is a failure. They play 162 games over six months and they are a very entertaining team to watch, always playing winning baseball. I want them to win it all, but I do not consider a season a failure without the ultimate prize, but obviously, that’s just me…….

HOT 2022 Yankees

Being that this is the “Broke Straight Boys” forum, (although none of the players are “broke”). And I call this thread, “Real Sports-Athletes & Teams we follow & admire”, I figured that before I go into work today, I’d post some hot looking Yankees, and not end on a financial note as I did above.:001_tt2:

I just watched the end of the Boston Celtics sweeping the Brooklyn Nets. I live just a mile and a half way from The Barclays Center where Brooklyn plays, but I’m just not feeling the Nets, especially with former Dukie Kyrie Irving not getting vaccinated and being an anti-vaxer. But Boston’s former Duke player Jayson Tatum had an amazing series, and I will root for Boston for the rest of the playoffs. Go Jayson Tatum!
