There were definitely some good scenes and great models during Clay's era Jlips. But overall I always felt he was struggling to find his way over here on
Broke Straight Boys vs. his directing of
College Dudes As you say, sometimes he sucked at directing. lol Over here on
Broke Straight Boys he oftentimes seemed out of his depth and very tone deaf as to what a gay audience would want to see from supposedly straight models doing gay for pay. I remember when it got so bad that some members were legitimately asking in the forum if Clay was straight.
I really liked Clay's soothing voice. Things changed though after you left Jlips. New things came to light. Clay often acted on his own personal agendas. To my mind some of it was downright insubordinate. And he appears to have had many different kinds of agendas. Clay eventually went pretty far to the dark side, betrayed professional trusts with his employers, and brazenly crossed personal vs. professional boundaries. Many people were hurt in one way or another by his actions. Clay has his own website now where he stars in each episode and pays models to fuck him. A bit of art imitating life perhaps.
None of this means that we can't enjoy much of the work he's left us...and praise his work where we feel praise is due. My opinion of him personally though based on some of his behaviors, has been diminished.
The director who followed him was named Johnny. I still hold a very high opinion of him! Johnny's directorial work was quite good. He even interacted with us on the forum. He was open to suggestions from us. Like any professional, he didn't blindly take or attempt all of our advice. But we sensed that he was always willing to listen to us, whether he agreed with us or not. And he would use feedback from us that he felt would be beneficial. He took constructive criticism very well without getting too defensive or giving in to the urge to lash back in anger.
Now we have Bryce (and Sha) who I feel are also doing a very good job.
