Dear member friends,

Right now Amsterdam hosts its annually Canal Pride. You can watch it live at: http://www.youtube.com/avrogaypride or http://www.AT5.nl

On the boats there are ministers, the army, Louis van Gaal the coach of the national soccer team, the police in uniform...

PS: One day BluMedia finds the way to tap into a much broader tv subculture... in it's turn as a mere side effect, this sudden succes will make our dear Broke Straight Boys owner Mark filthy rich... and next we'll get an European Broke Straight Boys pride tour... just for his personal pleasure!

There was also a live version spoken in English... could not find the link yesterday. (Google and Youtube sponsored this, they were also represented on one the boats)

check out the parade in English:

Oh Rob, you have the best parade! Were you able to get out and see it for yourself? Any photos you want to share?!

Well fuck yeah, you are always a "blast!":001_tongue: I get all the photos, except the one with the girl holding up Putin? :wtf:
P.S., Thanks for sharing "your canal" with us...you're the best!

Putin... There is a new anti-gay law in effect in Russia. It's forbidden to make 'propaganda' for gays in Russia. Putin recently signed this anti-gay law.

Let me open a new topic about this!

It's an example of satire, mockery and protest Beth. Putin and his parliament have just passed one of the harshest anti-gay laws in the modern industrialized world. It officially bans any gay pride celebrations. It outlaws anything that could be considered a public endorsement of "non-traditional" sexual relationships. As the English-speaking announcer mentioned later during the parade, the new Russian law is written so broadly that it could include acts as simple as two men kissing in public. The law also includes punishments all the way up to imprisonment. Many attempts at gay pride parades or rallies in Moscow and St. Petersburg have ended up with the police coming in and bludgeoning the participants. This new law has the intent of putting gay rights in Russia back into the 19th century.

Oops! Sorry Robert. xo We were 4 minutes apart on posting. If you'd rather start this convo on another thread, that's fine.

Back on topic... Thank you Robert for posting this. I enjoyed the parade very much. I watched some of it and then I kept in on loudly for a couple hours while I did housecleaning.

The announcer actually found many substantive things to talk about in such a lengthy parade. I noted with interest where he talked about how unfair it was of foreigners who came to live in Holland (or Amsterdam in particular) and brought their homophobia with them. He mentioned that if you came form another country to live in Holland because you wanted to take advantage of the economic opportunities, or the healthcare, or the lower taxes maybe...that you need to learn the language and accept the fact that Holland is a very progressive country on social issues. He says it's not fair to want to live here and then say that you hate gays [or even want to do them physical harm] because that's how it is at home. Many of those exact sentiments towards new immigrants are playing out all over the E.U.

I did find the parade very enjoyable though. Thanks again for posting it Robert. :)

Fifteen years ago, I dared to call Amsterdam the gay capital of Europe. Unfortunately in recent years there have been acts of violence on gays even here. Muslims and East-Europeans tend to be homophobic.

The commentator lives in Amsterdam and is very well informed about Dutch culture and society.
