Hi. Where can I read a history of this site? I've seen reference to Broke Straight Boys-1 and -2 and I'm curious.

Yes. It is the same guy. He left our site abruptly and Mark never addressed the exact reason but I think you and I have an idea why he left. Thanks guys. That's what I was asking about. I appreciate you.
I have a question about this Clay guy. Is he the old dude having sex with all the half-way house boys? Why is he polemic? I do find him unpleasant but mostly because there's a predator vibe to that site (purposeful). Also his milky fingernails gross me out.

Wow! I’m learning more and more! Haha! I will say that when I first heard about the stealing of models I had to take a look and see what models went over to his site. One thing that surprised me was seeing a model that I actually know personally who only did a solo at Broke Straight Boys and then saw that he had done two scenes for Clay’s site, one of them being Clay fucking my friend. Won’t name the model.Hi Trebligon,
Some may find my use of the adjective of "polemic" in regards to Clay to be misused. As in he is a polemic figure. For me personally it's because he holds very controversial perspectives and opinions, and he engages in behavior that is problematic for what many of us would like to consider to be a more evolved age. (Current U.S. political discourse notwithstanding.)
The other side of the same coin is that his controversial speech, actions and inclinations also provoke a fair amount of invective from his detractors in here. Of whom I am proud to say that I am one of his strongest detractors. So my own opinions on Clay are also polemical. If you're looking for my own strong and controversial opinions about Clay... Buckle up. Because I won't hold back much.
I feel rather conflicted about going into this. It brings up a lot of past baggage that many of us in here might prefer to gloss over with the passage of time. The story isn't boring though. Some of the truths about Clay are actually painful for some of us in here to go back over. But you've asked me a direct question and I feel it would be rude to ignore it or to be otherwise dismissive of it. In my opinion Clay presided over an era of some of the best looking models of the site. Not that there aren't very good looking models of all eras of course. So I will not say that his tenure here was awful. He gave us some very good content in the archives. In kindness, I am grateful for a lot of the work he left us.
That said...
When Clay first arrived the majority of us assumed that he was either completely new or at least fairly new to directing gay porn. There was no mention at all from upstairs as to his resume' or what qualifications helped him land the job. From the very start he hired many models who were kind of rough looking from what had been the standard in the past. In Broke Straight Boys's own model application page on the site, it specifically said that applicants with prominent tattoos, piercings, facial hair, etc would be less likely to be hired. Then right out of the gate Clay started hiring models who checked some or all of those boxes. And IMO again, many of the first models were just not up to the previous standards of the site. (With exceptions later on of course.)
I and many others were giving Clay tips here in the forum as to how to improve the choregraphy of his scenes and also tips for better camera angles than what he was using. Based on his beginning work he acted like he didn't know his arse from a hole in the ground. Many times I felt like we members were training him on what a gay audience would prefer to see. He would devote way too much camera time to angles or positions that were boring to watch for over 10-15 seconds. Then he would either totally ignore, give very short glances to, or miss altogether some camera shots of things going on in the scene that were actually much more interesting than what he insisted on focusing on. It was really frustrating.
It was also disheartening to see our monthly dues going to models and scenes that were just not up to a better standard. Many of us members felt/feel very invested in the site. Before the advent of all the Tube sites and free porn, just about all the major gay porn studios were charging between about $30-$40 per month. So it was especially annoying as members to see any drop in quality given the cost.
But I and many others were cutting Clay a fair amount of slack because we thought he was either straight or very new to filming porn. Or both. There were many times when we were asking here in the forum if Clay was actually straight. Even when people on staff of the site would attest that Clay was gay, some of us were still kind of dubious based on the quality of his work for the first 3-6 months.
When it finally came out in the forum that Clay was the director of BluMedia's sister site "College Dudes", I myself was stunned. College Dudes had good content, good direction, decent choregraphy and some pretty hot models. (Even if College Dudes tended to hire primarily gay models rather than the straighter "Gay For Pay" types that we preferred over here on Broke Straight Boys) My first reaction upon hearing that Clay was simultaneosusly the director of Broke Straight Boys and College Dudes, was a combination of surprise, shock and anger. I was pissed! Just because the mission statement of Broke Straight Boys alluded to more of a "reality" and "amateur model" genre of porn didn't mean that the direction, choreography and camera work should look amateurish also.
But that really doesn't go all the way to what really made Clay such a controversial and polarizing figure in here. If I had to point to a beginning that foreshadowed things in his character that are troubling, it started with the way he would make the models say humiliating things on camera. Or make them hold up signs that were degrading and that painted them as pretty much being prostitutes for his/our(?) sadistic pleasure. Things like, "I just got fucked for cash." "I gave up my ass for money." I'm straight. But I suck dick to pay bills." Just things along those lines.
There were so many times when I was just left shaking my head and asking myself, "Is Clay filming for the audience? Or is Clay filming for Clay?"
Then there were the times that Clay wrote the descriptions on some of the scene pages. The tone was so cold and callous towards the models. It may have been meant to be seen in a humorous, joking way. But Clay would degrade the models in the scene. These are not verbatim quotes. And I write them strongly just to convey the overall (accurate) tone of his quasi-sadism towards the models under his care and employment. "Model X thought he could just get away with giving a blowjob here. But I didn't let that punk off easy. I made sure he got fucked really hard and had the other guy drill him good. Just like he deserved. By the end he was almost begging for mercy. I can't wait to see the next model get what's coming to him."
The tone was so creepy and offensive, that I was afraid that Clay's attitude and tone would scare off some really good possible future models. If I read things like that in advance as a a very young straight or bi-ish young guy perusing the site, I wouldn't have applied to be a model here. Fortunately other people started writing the scene descriptions going forward.
There were other things Clay was doing behind the scenes regarding models that I can't go into more detail on because I can't name my sources. Only to say that it's not second-hand information or heresay. But just trust me that it does not paint Clay in a flattering light.
Then we get to the real great betrayal that just encapsulates Clay's criminal immoral behavior and his pervy, quasi-sadistic tendencies that had gradually been building up to this climax. The dam burst and it all came to light that he was using some Broke Straight Boys models to do films for his own future site. He even filmed some of the Broke Straight Boys models on Broke Straight Boys sets and Broke Straight Boys property. Again, they were done as content for his own site. Where the money came from to pay these Broke Straight Boys models who Clay filmed on Broke Straight Boys property for his own side hustle is a very open question. It's not a stretch to entertain the strong possiblity that at least some embezzlement was going on there as well.
You add to that the overall tone of Clay's site where the humiliation, degradation and de-humanization of the models is practically the mission statement of the site... And him blurring the lines of being the director of the site as well as insisting on having sex with some of the models himself... You see that that really is the kind of character he is. He had been showing the signs and leaving the bread crumb trail all along.
As Maya Angelou said, "When people tell you who they are... Believe them."
So Clay evokes strong and controversial opinions in here.
Of course you are correct Jay that abusive porn is a terrible introduction to gay sex for young guys to find online. But unfortunately it is pervasive across the internet in both gay and straight porn, and obviously there is a big market for it or else these sites that practice the fetish of “forced sex” as punishment are very popular. I have watched clips of supposed teenagers being found stealing in a store with a hidden camera and forced to suck or be fucked by the security guard, so it is not just Clay, and I’m sure there are similar scenes in straight porn. It is a sad commentary on what turns people on sexually today.Wow! Yeah, it really bothers me seeing Bobby Owens on his site being water boarded with alcohol and slapped around like he’s a prisoner. I have never given those sites one dime of my money and never would. I’ve just seen things in the past on pornhub back when pornhub was a hot thing.
Listen, I understand people have their fetishes but we really should be more careful in what kind of material we put out there. It is so easy for young boys to access porn and sites like that and even sites like sketchysex and Fratx are just bad examples for young men who are curious and trying to figure out their sexuality. It’s so careless. That’s just my opinion.
Thanks again y'all. Fascinating stuff. I have complex feelings on porn. If not for it, I'd have had no outlet during the many closet years. But then I worry about exploitation of people who may be in bad situations, and then challenge my own assumptions about sex workers in general. The halfway house is so overtly exploitative and I hadn't even considered how morally dubious at best the site owner having sex with his employees is.
I fully agree Broke Straight Boys respects its players & never forces them to do anything they won't agree to. This has been the policy fince Day 1.Just wanted to inject my two cents in this discussion. When a model applies to a porn studio, they know exactly what they are signing up for. Sites that film the guys being in a demoralizing situation, these guys know what they are in store for. When applying for porn work, models can either accept the work or not. Nobody forces these guys to do porn.
On another side note, our studio believes in treating the models with respect and making them feel at home when filming for Broke Straight Boys or College Boy Physicals sites and I think that makes the difference. I am humbled when a model arrives here that has filmed for another studio, or returns to us after filming for another studio and they always remark that they prefer to film with our studio overall.
