Hi there!

I'm Jake_10 and I live in the heartlands of England.

I worked for many years in theatre, as a Stage Manager, then I re-joined the real world and worked for the goverment as a civil servant.

I have been on Broke Straight Boys on and off, (more on than off) for about 4 years now, and thought it was about time I joined the forum, better late than never! I do enjoy Broke Straight Boys on the whole, although it does seem to lose it's way from time to time, and some decisions taken do seem to beggar belief.

These days I spend a fair bit of my time writing and taking photographs, and as I was diagnosed with cancer last year, (I responded well to the chemo and radiotherapy, and am now clear of the nasty little blighter), I am organising events to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Well that's enough about me, I am looking forward to some lively debates on the Broke Straight Boys forum!!

:welcome: Jake_10! Great to hear from you. There are a lot of people from your side of the pond,"so I'm sure things will go "swimmingly!" You have a real diverse background and that is very interesting to me; would you share as to how you went from "the stage" to "the state?" Also, let us know which models you like and maybe a fantasy you have about "the boys!"

Welcome Jake!:welcome: We have a lot of lively debates here, so hopefully you will stay with us a while. Is it a coincidence that you joined in the middle of a very heated one?

I am so thankful your cancer treatment went so well, and you are now cancer free. Turning that experience around, and doing fundraising efforts for research is great.

Welcome to the forum Jake! It is so nice to have you joining us here, and I hope you become an active participant, and please do speak your mind and let us know what you do like and don't like.

I always find it interesting to finally hear from someone such as yourself who has been a member for basically four years but who never joined the forum. We forumites tend to live in a bubble, thinking that our opinions represent everyone who is a member of the site, but I know that is not necessarily true.

:welcome:

Welcome on stage Jake!

Welcome to the forum Jake! Having been around for 4 years, you must have plenty to share with us now that you have a platform with which to do it. haha I look forward to your posts. :)

Thanks for the welcome ladies and gents, much appreciated.

Will try to answer some of your questions.

I gave up theatre because I got bored of the politics and bullsht involved. I simply stopped enjoying my work, so decided it was time to do something more useful. I am an old socialist at heart, and very much believe in the welfare state that we have here in the UK, so decided to work with people less fortunate than me, many through no fault of their own. For the forst 12 years that I worked as a civil servant, the Labour Party, who I am a supporter of, was in goverment. When the Coalition goverment led by the Tories came to power, I realised I couldn't deliver what I was expected to and be true to my political beliefs, so I bowed out.

As far as my cancer goes, I had a tumour in my rectum, (kinda ironic as my ass is for one way traffic only). The good thing about having a tumour in that region, is that it makes itself felt pretty quickly. To cut a long story short, my treatment consisted of radiotherpay 5 days a week for 6weeks, and 2 5 day courses of chemo as an in patient! It was all pretty gruelling and made me feel really ill for some time. Again it's ironic that the tumour caused me little more than a bit of discomfort, whilst the treatment made me so ill. I was given the all clear in October, and now receive 3monthly physical examinations, and at my next one in April, I will have a full CT scan as it will be 12months since my last one. I am under no illusions, Cancer is a nasty devious illness, and could still return to kick my ass once more, but for now, all is well.

On the topic of the main bone of contention at the moment, I feel that a short answer would not do justice to the debate, so will add it to the main thread on the topic of Condoms or not!

Welcome to the forum Jake. Glad to have you here!

I'm to the board but thought I'd welcome you back too! I'm happy you're cancer free. Thanks for sharing your story.
